“It is,  they’re without home, they don’t have where to live and where to sleep, they lost things that could have a great sentimental value” he would be devasted if he had lost his home, he had a lot of things that he had some sentimental value, things that weren’t just material things, things that were not replaceable. He put himself in their place, and can see how sad they must be in that moment, how hard it was for them, it’s one of the reasons why he offered his home to two people stay in, he had empathy. “I wish too, but unfortunately not everyone can offer their home”

“It’s all incredibly sad. We are just starting to recover, and now Texas is dealing with what we just did.” Anthony replied, letting out a soft sigh. It seemed like the lower states just were not getting a break. He also had heard that there might be another hurricane heading in their direction. The entire thing was a giant nightmare. Anthony was beyond ready for hurricane season to be done and over with. “I’s just a matter of helping how you can.”

                 Carson smiled diligently at the man’s confession that he’d bought supplies for his students. It was rare to see a teacher so dedicated nowadays. Sad to say, but truthful nonetheless. The school system was thoroughly lacking and with it went most of the teacher’s in institutions, lose their inspiration to teach. Seeing the man before her so determined to fight that norm, made her heart grow warm with appreciation. “That was very kind of you.” Pausing she adjusted her stance, smile still fondly on her lips. “You care a lot about your students…it’s nice to see — not that it matters to me, i’m not anyone’s parent, but it’s good to know that if I were…there were still teachers out there who cared.”

“I just like to do what I can.” Anthony replied, shrugging at her. It wasn’t something that he had thought too much about. His mother had always taught him that it was always best to be as kind as possible to others. You could never fully know what other people were dealing with. “I just wanted to help out. I got lucky and got out of the storm with my home most intact.” He added, not wanting to make a big deal out of everything. “I like for my students to know that there is always someone on their side.”

Clara shrugged lightly, “I mean, there was a gala here just a few months back. So something like that, or a fancier holiday event. I’m an actress too, so if I were to land a bigger role soon, I would have plenty of opportunities for that.” she explained.

“I guess you are right about that. Surely there will be fancier events at some point.” Anthony replied, sending the younger girl a smile. He was sure if she was determined enough she would figure it out. “It looks like you have a ton of options, so if you really like it than you should get it.”

                   “A lot of people are in hard places right now. It’s crazy what a storm can do to a place. We can only hope and pray that nothing worse happens, and that everyone gets through these next few weeks safely.” The girl’s heart went out to everyone affected by the storm. She herself hadn’t experienced too much damage. She’d had to keep the horses in their stables for few extra days, and the ranch had remained closed to most of her students, but things were slowly coming back together. she knew the town would too — soon. “We must stay strong for them. After all, we’re the one’s they look up to right?”

“I think you are right about that. All we can do at the moment is try to make sure that we help people in whatever ways that we can.” Anthony replied, sending the woman a soft smile. The city had gone through a lot lately and it would be nice if nothing else bad happened for a long time. Everyone deserved a break, and the city itself needed time to get re-organized and repaired. All everyone could do right now is be understanding towards those who had lost their houses. “It’s just hard to see, you know? I’ve bought some extra notebooks and stuff for my students, to at least try to help those who have lost everything.”

“Yes, I really didn’t know what to expect, y’know? I’d only been in town for about a month before the storm hit, but the response from the community was really good. Not that I’d want to experience that again. I’m sure the crisis brought out the best and worst in people, and it’s still a stressful period. Hoping your home came out unscathed though?” Jason sighed loudly, glad the worst was over. He was still in the middle of looking at new apartments since the condo board could deal with the remnants of his disastrous apartment building. 

“I was only here a few months myself. I am from New York originally, so I wasn’t used to the whole storm thing.” Anthony replied, smiling at the other man. Things were far crazier than he had expected. “I tried to help people as I could, but there is only so much you can do on a teacher’s salary.” He added, shrugging a little. “My house had a few minor issues, but I got out fairly lucky myself. How about you?”

Noah frowned at that, “Is there anything I can do help?” he asked, both knowing that the situation had to be rough on his friend, and hating to hear about kids in situations like that. “I mean, I think my dad already donated kind of … a lot. And I’m going to the benefit concert but, I mean … is there anything specific they need? Or you need?”

“I think a lot of them would be happy with just some basic school supplies.” Anthony replied, sending his friend a smile. Back to school was stressful for a lot of families even when their homes weren’t completely wrecked. “Just like notebooks, pens, binders. The stuff that they need every day. I’ve bought some myself, but it’s obviously expensive so anything you could help with would be great.”

“The storm caused so many problems, I feel bad for anyone that lost their home”  he had been volunteering to help clean the town, just like some of his coworkers have done the same thing. He knew that an event was coming up that would try to gain money to help people that lost their home and needed it. He would definitely volunteer to help her, maybe as a security or something else, but probably would be the first option. “I wish there was more I could do to help, I would let all of them stay at my place if it was big enough to fit them all”

“It’s just especially hard right now for some of them.” Anthony replied, not knowing what he would have done if he had lost his house. Everything he owed was contained in those four walls and starting over would have been awful. He knew that he had ended up a lot luckier than most people. Anthony nodded at the man’s comment, completely understanding what he meant. “I just wish that there were more places for people to stay in general. It must really suck spending every day not knowing where you are going to sleep that night.”

“It really has been a trying time. It’s been crazy in my line of work too.” Overextended staff, over working, and sure they were gettin’ paid but that didn’t really matter when they barely had any time to even think about it. “I’m surprised and happy that people have the strength to keep on going, it’s so… exhausting to think about.” He scratched at his temple, waiting for his insurance claims to go through which was likely what most people were doing. But he knew some didn’t have the safety blanket, and then some. 

“I think that things have calmed down a little, but we’ve still all got a long way to go.” Anthony replied, smiling sadly at the man. He just wished that in general there was more that he could do to help his students, but at this point there wasn’t too much that anyone could do. The city was just going to have to slowly re-build. In the meantime, everyone just had to learn to adapt to the new reality. “Yeah, I think a lot of people are just doing what they can do get through this. Everyone just wants to help each other out.”

“Things at work are a little more hectic than usual.” Anthony replied, letting out a soft sigh. He was glad that it was Friday and that he would have the next two days to relax and get himself organized for the following week. The first couple weeks for the school year always seemed to be a mess, with the only time being more hectic being exams time. “So many of my students lost their homes in the storm, which makes a lot of them in hard places at the moment. It makes me sad.”

“Or you can try on heels yourself and go for it. Pretty sure they have “man sized” stillettos.” She joked, lifting her cocktail to her lips and taking a generous sip. “Anthony…” She repeated, as if she were trying the name out for herself. “Well, Anthony, your coworkers sound boring. Please tell me that you’re at least the cool teacher that makes class just a little bit enjoyable?”

“I would for sure fall on my as, in three seconds.” Anthony replied, feeling as though it would be a bad idea. He was already six feet tall, adding anymore height would just be dangerous. He couldn’t help but smirk at her comment. “I mean, I try to make things as interesting as possible. I surely am one of the cooler teachers that is for sure. I teach history, so I’ve got to try to keep things exciting.”

Staring at the ceiling was becoming a regular thing for him these days. Part of him was still wondering if moving to Atlanta had been a good idea anymore. There was a large part of him that just wanted to go back to New York and fall back into old routines. Granted, it wasn’t exactly like his quality of life had been better there. It’s just that he had been in Atlanta for a while now and it didn’t seem as though his life was moving forward.

The only thing the city had managed to do was mix up some old feelings for the man. Ghosts from his past were everywhere, and Anthony was learning that they weren’t always things that he could avoid. Sometimes you had to face your problems head on. He just found himself in a weird place at the moment. Anthony was twenty-five now, and a lot of his friends had their own families now. Even his little sister was starting to settle down.

It was weird how a couple of years could change anything. All around him people had figured out what to do with themselves and yet he was still letting the past control him. Anthony let out a soft sigh, unsure what to do at this point. He could only have so many one night stands to numb the pain of the people that he had loved and lost.

Norah sat at the counter of the bar, her finger ran around her cup of whiskey as she heard the husky voices in the back along with the soft country music on the background. Everything about the bar was extremely calming for her. She looked at the person beside her and a little smirk formed on her lips “Would you like a drink? My treat” she took a sip of her whiskey, her eyes never leaving the person beside her as she waited for their answer.

Anthony found himself at the bar once more. This seemed to be a pretty normal thing in his life though, not that he really minded. He seemed to meet a lot of interesting people there. “Yeah, a drink would be nice. The next one is on me though.” Anthony added, sending the woman a smile. She didn’t seem familiar to him, but granted he didn’t know everyone in the bar scene. “I’m Anthony.”

Alba couldn’t help but laugh at his compliment, giving him a strange look. “Talent? Oh no, I doubt it. This is pure liquid courage and prayers that I don’t fall. Talent has nothing to do with is.” Truth be told, she had only been wearing heels for the past three years. Before that, she always thought they brought too much attention to her generally low key identity. Now, however she wasn’t afraid to shine. “Alba, by the way. My name. Not that you wouldn’t figure that out or anything.” She winced at her own awkwardness. “Moving on from awkward introductions, are you in the same boat as me? Partially babysitting drunk coworkers and mostly enjoying getting drunk?”

“I guess I am going to have to take your word for it.” Anthony replied, knowing that he had very little experience with heels. His ex-girlfriend’s had worn them but other than that there was nothing he really knew about them. To him they were just a magical thing. “Well, it’s nice to meet you, Alba. I’m Anthony.” He replied, sending her a small nod. There was something about her that seemed to be oddly adorable.  “I am actually just here to relax and let out some steam. I’m a teacher, so most of my co-workers don’t drink.”

“What do you think?” Clara asked with a grin as she spun around to show off the dress, “I mean I’m not completely sure what I’d wear it to yet, but it’s perfect, isn’t it? I’ll find some reason to make use of it. Many reasons probably, I mean, how could I not? I look amazing!” she exclaimed happily.

“I think that it is a nice dress. Honestly, I am not sure what else you want me to say.” Anthony replied, sending the girl a shrug. He had never been that great when it came to the whole fashion thing. “I don’t really know what you would wear it for either. It surely is a pretty lively dress though.”

“It is unfortunate, but i understand. I mean, everyone will be doing whatever it takes for their career and for the families they provide for so it is understandable why they do this.” To be honest, the only reason why she was thinking that way was because it was the only thing that kept her from putting a stop to it. “You and I both. I’m surprised we have it now.”

“Money really does seem to run the world. It’s pretty sad when you think about it.” Anthony replied, letting out a small sigh. It was hard to understand why people would chose to exploit others in order to get money. The world seemed to care far too much about getting ahead of each other. “Life is sort of strange.”

“I am.” She said, her eyes flickering over to him before she cocked her head to the side. Her hair was loose and wild, falling in curls down her back and around her face. She didn’t have the heart to actually put them up in a ponytail, it took away from the experience of dancing like no one was watching her. “I think so.” She laughed. “I mean, I’m here, smiling for the first time today and I haven’t hit the deck from dancing in these heels. So I think it’s going well so far.”

“Well, I am glad to here that.” Anthony replied, sending the woman a smile. It was always nice to see someone who was enjoying themselves. Often people at the bar were trying to avoid their problems, but it was nice to see someone who was actually able to do so successfully. “I do give you props for being able to dance in heels. It doesn’t seem like something that would be an easy task.” He added, not even fully understanding how woman were even able to walk to heels, let alone dance in them. “You seem to have quite the talent.”
