there was an incident at work today
This is the first and only time this note preview feature has landed. the faint whisper of mike lurking in the shadows
I like how this post is still going around long after itâs outlived this entire website feature
I donât have time to unpack my full thoughts on the whole argument of âyou shouldnât be a burden to the healthcare systemâ but I would like to chime in on it:
so, all athletes should immediately stop playing sports. construction workers, anyone with jobs that put them at risk, they need to find different employment. people with uteruses shouldnât ever get pregnant, either. actually you know what? donât enter a car or vehicle at all! and donât even get me started on old people. what age do we think they should just give it up & throw in the towel? 50? 60? after that they become way too burdensome. itâs a problem.
sweet baby eugenicist, your anger is misplaced. they want you to blame yourself instead of their crumbling system. you should be asking, what kind of a fucking healthcare system is it if it can be burdened by the very thing it exists to provide? which is healthcare?!
SORRY, MY SEXY TOPSTITCHING I GUESS
do you guys remember when we googled something and we would get results that were actually related to the things we searched
im dying i completely forgot this conversation i had with a friend three years ago đ
Something I do find lovely about the first 4 Murderbot Diaries books (canât yet speak on all of them) is:
Murderbot chronically finding new scientists/travellers to claim as âclientsâ (whether paid or not) like one of those sheepless herding dogs that goes around finding sheep (or anything else they can herd like a flock of sheep). Like it clearly has a protect humans instinct and a desperate need for enrichment.
Given its general lack of self awareness and unreliable narrator status, thereâs no way in hell Murderbot is aware itâs doing this.
When Rocky finds out earth memes and crabs
Or maybe Grace is having a weird dream
Every work of art says things the creator hasnât considered, but if youâve really thought about what youâre trying to say then generally the additional dimensions you didnât know it had are in alignment with your purpose, whereas if you think youâre making no cultural comment at all you are actually making a LOT of cultural comments, most of which will be unflattering to you
Porn is one of the most culturally rich types of media imaginable so the answer is: you cannot do this
âI donât want to make anything with cultural dimensions. Thatâs why I only write within the genre that is legally sequestered away from every other kind of storytelling because of my cultureâs attitude towards depictions of sex.â
Yes, these Muppets have taken Manhattan. The question now is can they HOLD it
I love that Grace says he and Rocky "haven't run into anything where our cultures clash" while they're actively navigating two pretty major points of difference. From Grace's perspective, being watched in your sleep is sort of unnerving; for Rocky it's imperative. From Rocky's perspective, eating is taboo and private; for Grace it's a casual, social activity. When Grace says they haven't run into any culture clashes, he's just woken up to Rocky watching him and now he's eating breakfast. It's obviously not true that they have no conflicts in their social norms! It's just that they instinctively accommodate each other with curiosity and empathy, finding ways to bend on the things that matter to each other and explain when something is really important to themselves. Grace has spent his life holding other people at arm's length, and then in Rocky he meets someone who makes him want to do the work, and that work becomes so natural he doesn't even realise he's doing it.
sorry I saw a post about AAVE and got fired up and had to make this
Hey, is that Maes Hughes and Flame Alchemist Roy Mustang in your pfp?
After all these years, finally I understand, this is all it took for people to recognize that my profile picture is Brigadier General Maes Hughes and the Flame Alchemist Colonel Roy Mustang from the hit 2001 manga series Fullmetal Alchemist
watching my husband get diagnosed with and treated for sleep apnea over the last year was not the thing that radicalized me re: weight and healthcare but my goodness it has solidified my stances.
sleep apnea is more common in people who are fat.
society decided for some reason that this meant that being fat causes sleep apnea. its often difficult to get referrals for sleep apnea treatment if you are fat, because some PCPs will tell you try losing weight first.
turns out!! having untreated sleep apnea causes weight gain in a not-insignificant number of people. it also makes it fucking impossible for many people to lose weight.
my husband worked out the same amount before he got a cpap as he does now. there have been no major diet changes either. yet he has been losing weight -- and gaining muscle tone -- consistently since he started using a cpap in january.
also, his blood pressure -- which was high, which docs blamed on his weight/diet -- went down significantly within one month of starting cpap treatment, before his weight changed significantly.
ANYWAYS. this is getting long. two final thoughts.
- I Want To Strangle Medical Fatphobia With My Bare Fucking Hands
- if you are exhausted constantly for "no reason", and especially if you snore, you should probably ask your doctor about getting tested for sleep apnea. it is extremely common -- estimates are around 1 in 10 people -- and is also wildly under-diagnosed. like, some estimates suggest that 80% of people with moderate-severe sleep apnea are undiagnosed.
this tweet genre is so fucking funny i need more of them
