Mauro has been feeling quite conflicted as of late, because he finds himself ensnared by two of the kindest souls he has ever met. It was hard enough to accept that he may be staying in Azuma longer than intended, but to choose one of them? He hasn't the faintest clue how. So he simply… hasn't. He's been paralyzed by indecision.

"You know how to play chess?" Kurama says, his surprise evident in his voice as he turns towards Cuilang.

Cuilang's standard flat expression, somehow, flattens even more as he stops smiling and levels Kurama an unimpressed look. "Of course. I have been taking Sayo to your lessons for months. That is more than enough time to learn the ruleset."

Kurama narrows his eyes in that shortsighted, competitive way of his and smirks. "In that case, I demand you play a match with me. It's been far too long since I've played against someone new."

"I do not think that is wise."

OR

Kurama finds out that Cuilang has been quietly learning chess in the background of Sayo's weekly chess lessons.

Part of the reason I made this blog was to ramble about my headcanons for Cuilang's body because I cannot stop thinking about it. More under the cut!

Hair: I stole the material from one of @kardia-library-official's fics. I think he was originally created to have a more androgynous/agender look and adapted a more masculine look after having more time to develop an identity. Transmasc Cuilang real is what I'm saying

Skin: I think his master originally had his face being entirely out of wood, but a synthetic skin covering helped to make his expressions to look more natural. This is also how he is able to blush, there's some lights under his face. Eyes: No notes on the drawing but they're glass! The pupil area (where you can see the gears) let light in, pinhole camera style. Body: Wood (stained with tung oil), metal chassis/skeleton, clockwork underneath. His current legs were made by him, which is why they're a different wood and have less hidden gears. His limbs fall apart more often than his core since he uses them until they're completely worn out. He's made some improvements to his Master's original design, such as adding more flexibility in his feet and adding some doors for easy-access maintenance, but he hasn't gotten the 'realistic human movements' down. Also, his charging port is between his shoulder blades. I love him, please talk to me about Cuilang....

Wahhhh so lovely!!! I'm really flattered and honored that my silly little headcanon made it into someone's concept of the character! And really excited to see someone else with a "Cuilang was originally designed androgynously but skewed towards a more masc presentation over time" headcanon, because that's how I imagine it going too.

Your take on how his body looks and works is really cool, and his stance/pose really expresses his personality. <3

I spent a stupidly long time looking up spider silk harvesting and if it would be feasible in fantasy Edo Japan before I remembered that there are canonically giant monster spiders that can be farmed and produce thread. So uh... that's probably how he got it. And yessss for androgynous-to-masc Cuilang! Him cutting his hair is symbolic of him developing his own identity and independent thought... something his master didn't expect but was quite excited to see happen!

I may or may not have several thousand words written (probably? I don't remember the count bc I haven't finished yet) about the symbolic haircut of a transmasc Cuilang so I am LIVING to see other people people have this headcanon too

Anyway I love the teensy tiny chip by his neck and all the lil details that he's not brand new anymore
