occupation, prewar. united states army, 2nd battalion of the 108th infantry regiment. he enlisted at 18 and served for 12 years. a decorated war hero with the rank of lieutenant colonel by the age of 30, at the time of his honorable discharge, historically making him the youngest to achieve that rank. it was earned primarily through his own merit, but the expedited promotion process was just as much about his service record as it was from having already been selected for pre - approval by vault - tec. he doesn’t know about the latter.

scars. three from gunshots; one under the right collarbone, one further back on that same shoulder, one on the outer left thigh that’s more of a deep graze, all prewar. there’s a thin slash that runs across his right side, across the ribs, from a laser rifle; post war. various other scars and calluses (on the knee from getting a pebble stuck in it when he wiped out on his bike in third grade; the tip of his finger from a box cutter in high school shop class; etc) too small to be significant.
clothing, post war. chosen for function and durability, he wears items that fit well — loose clothing is a hard no — and can be easily tailored and / or modified. hard - worn denim, sturdy work boots, shirts that are usually long - sleeved and can be layered underneath some form of protective covering; reinforced leather, for the most part. he doesn’t like the feel of weighty armor, dating all the way back to the service when full power armor was being mass produced and utilized. he always carries a pair of heavy mechanic’s gloves and a gas mask.
alcohol / chems. prewar, his indulgences were limited to a couple of cold beers on a hot day. now he’ll touch the hard stuff from time to time, but only in places he knows are secure (e.g., the state house in goodneighbor or his house in diamond city). places he can be alone or else in trustworthy company. the military expected its soldiers to use buffout and psycho in combat situations; he’s done both, albeit not since his time in active duty. post war, he’s tried jet and mentats on isolated occasions. overall he tends to avoid anything that impairs his judgment or makes his trigger finger shake. the only ‘chem’ he takes on a pretty regular basis is rad - x, to counter his low radiation tolerance from his years in cryo stasis. med - x is taken sparingly. he’ll use stims when he has to, but he’s always more likely to give up his medical supplies to those in need than keep them for himself.
myers briggs. ESFJ - A, the assertive consul. strong practical skills, strong sense of duty, extremely loyal, sensitive and warm, good at connecting with others; on the flip side, can be inflexible, vulnerable to criticism, and selfless to an absolute fault.
enneagram. type 2, the helper, with a social variant. involved, socially aware, usually extroverted, they thrive on altruism and going the extra mile in personal relationships. genuinely helpful and concerned about others. constantly putting everyone else’s needs above their own can lead to physical burnout and emotional exhaustion.
moral alignment. lawful good. wearing altruism like a badge, sacrificing personal comfort for the sake of others because it’s ‘the right thing to do,’ strong moral compass, et cetera.
general personality. centered. the definition of an even keel. in spite of being an army veteran, of everything he’s seen and done both pre and post war, he maintains an almost shocking level of mental and emotional stability. that’s not to say things don’t affect him — they do, and deeply, because he feels very deeply — but that he’s generally stoic about it, and secure enough in himself at his core to process trauma in more or less a healthy way. as a result, people tend to gravitate towards him; to trust and rely on him, reassured by the consistent steadiness of his presence and the sincerity of his kindness. however, none of that should be mistaken for weakness. he’s strong - willed and has proven — and continues having to prove — that he’ll do what’s necessary for the safety and survival of those around him. particularly those he cares about, but he’ll defend a stranger as readily as his friends if the situation calls for it. this makes him a valuable ally and a formidable opponent.
skills. firearms, hand to hand combat, tactical thinking, natural leadership. he has a basic knowledge of mechanics, enough to repair weapons and various tech. lockpicking is a learned skill developed post war. terminal hacking is hit or miss; he gets by, but he’ll pass the torch to more capable hands where possible to get it done faster. little known talents include piano and guitar, and an impressive singing voice that people seldom hear.
