the new atla movie has again confirmed to me that the show's endgame should have been a #plantontic gang, each member dedicating their life to rebuilding their respective nation.

I wish all and any subsequent movies would be about Katara (and Sokka) rebuilding the southern water tribe after its slow genocide (its not just the air nomads but Bryke love to pretend otherwise), teaching the next gen of waterbenders as the last southern waterbender, rediscover their unique spirituality, their culture, see tension between the tribes born out of resentment of the Northern Tribe withdraw from the war efforts. See Sokka become more and more a cherished leader amongst men, engineer, strategist. Aang truly letting go off his survivor's guilt and stop living in a past he could never restore (no matter if he could make the "right" non benders air benders, or single-handedly repopulate them with whoever he is with romantically or compulsively reform non benders into perfect acolytes that will never live up to the expectations anyway) bringing back air bisions (more than it just being the last scene) seeing the world react to their reappearance, Zuko reshaping the Fire Nation in his imagine and how tumultuous this would be (neutralizing Ozai was only the beginning) getting to see him bonding with his dragon, perhaps requiring the modern fire Nation with its roots –the sun warriors– bringing back dragons and the true meaning of fire bending devoid of supremacy and annihilation, Toph being influential in the Earth Kingdom as a Beifong, first mental bender, perhaps "cleaning" up Ba Sing Se, reconnecting/facing her parents.

But unfortunately Aang will forever chase a past lost to him, allgedly learning the same "lesson" over and over again while he is stuck being "the last airbender" before the actual full realized avatar, the embodiment of all four nation philosophies not just his birth nation, Katara is going to be joined at the hip to him to be his cheerleading PDA caretaker, his helper restoring vaccant air temples and building airbender island and later watch their non-airbending children while he is off with their airbending son to sporadically return to the south which has been occupied by the north in her absence, Sokka is the comedy relief till he randomly becomes a councilman to Republik City to die apparently childless, once very sensitive Toph (her appearing tuff has the fandom mischaracterize her as insentive) is apparently destined to become a deadbeat mom and a cop and we basically know jackshit about Zuko and the fire nation, other than him having a daughter and a grandson who randomly serve as captain to a international army. #Ihateithere #fuckbryke #andspecificallyfuckRepublicCity #godhowIhatetheirtemu1820NewYork

okay soo i'm new to the atla fandom and i've been having this wracking question of why people hate zutara to the highest degree 😭because from how i see it and how their characters progress it's straying a whole lot from being a toxic/problamatic ship

despite fans laureling the show for being progressive and the creators brancing around like proud peacocks, they are incredibly reactionary and misogynistic when it comes to Aang and Katara, especially the crop that came during the 2020 renaissance. The male audience along with the creators pretty much exclusively self insert into Aang as the "sweet little nice guy suffering in the friendzone". Now the show pandered to their fantasy 100%, but not the audience. especially not the female + WOC percentage -> which are typically the backbone of fandom culture creating content (fanart, books inspired, fanfic, artworks, in depth meta commentary etc...zk literally created fandom week as a concept to the world) -> so they have been blowing a casket ever since because they are incredibly parasexual with Kataang as a dynamic. They percieve every dynamic as a threat encroaching on "their 4eva girl", you can see that in their opinion on Jet and Haru– though its only "light" typical misogynistic "teasing" and mockery since they pose no real "threat". ZK is a different matter: Zuko is already overshadowing Aang as a main character and heralded has having the greatest arc by most, he also is the residing "heart throb" for the female audience for said arc but also looks (tall, dark, handsome despite the gigantic scar). The ultimate nail in the coffin is that –unlike most modern crackships (like zukka, zukoxtoph)– ZK actually has an unarguably compelling prominent canon dynamic essentially in their respective arcs and is in many aspects a direct foil to their respective "endgames" -> which is why so many folks prefer it to canon. All of this has them incredibly triggered...like level of regressing back to their older middle school crush kissing their older "cooler" "bad boy" boyfriend in the yard. The only difference to back in the day where you had your standard incel chirping, its now just has become more diversified

given how freaking insecure, territorial and obsessed Bryke are about Kataang, I'm genuinely asking how they could ever stomach entertaining even the zk bait...even as a promo tactic 🤔 they must have been seething bts or delusional to believe once they made KA endgame everybody would see the light 😂

Am I the only ones who finds Tagah's physique satirical and unattractive? love me some muscles on a man but it's gets to a point– Also the stacks upon stacks of muscles is NOT how I personally envisioned the built coming from airbending (rather sleek and agile)... a tidbit i have always love is how the ❝evil❞ fire nation was allowed to be more egalitarian than the supposed ❝good❞ nations WT and EK when it came to women, being seen as heirs and warriors, be it the crown princess, noble elites or the lowest of footsoldier.

It will always be a missed opportunity to not have Katara, and Toph and Suki –who had to overcome their nations' sexism to be warriors and leaders and viewed the Fire Nation as the embodiment of all evil– react to the reality that women have a higher standing in the FN than their own nations. It would have been another perfect fissure to the illusion of black and white, evil and good the way its almost exclusively depicted in children show.

I would have loved a scene where Katara would acknowledged, maybe even be envious that Azula was allowed, downright groomed to exploit her potential to the fullest (of course as an agent for FN imperialism under her father) whereas she had to crawl her way to the top, cross the globe, still doing all the ❝womanly❞ chores, had to literally challenge Pakku to be the expectation and be taught in her birthright.

+ a scene in which zuko being absolutely dumbfounded at the concept of sexism when he had Azula as sister AND their father's favoirte child + her NON BENDING girlfriends being the most prolific fighters to content is low-key hilarious. 🤣 Like imagine he gets informed how Sokka used to think of women and talk to Katara– his brain would legitimately short circuit (especially after seeing her bloodbend–) 💀

OG show really made it a point with each element –doesn't who it is– what makes a bender A BENDER, a proficient fighter and master is form, the right kind of teacher for THEM to teach the specific ancient art, repetition, dedication, honing your skill, internalizing the element's true philosophy etc... only for bryke to go on and repeatedly make non benders benders for le ✨️plot✨️ and have them be on the same bar as any seasoned master for the five minutes they have le bending 🤡🤦‍♀️
