Selling out... for free?

Some time ago, I made a promise that I would keep this blog relatively SFW.

This promise... still holds. This blog will stay clean. However, I could bear no more resistance to temptation, and as such, I posted my first R-18 drawing on my pixiv. Yep, little nocu is now an amateur pornographer, maybe. I don’t know if I can call what I drew “porn” really (is it porn if it’s drawn? I was always told that porn has “no artistic value”, but that erotic art exists), but there’s definitely some more lewds coming out in the coming days. Really, it’s just that pretty much everyone these days has at least a couple of these lewds in their resumé anyway. And I know as a kid I was told the “if everyone jumps off the Empire State Building...” analogy. But meh.

I will NOT fully shift to this art, however. I will NOT stop doing cutesy SFW art. But there may be some more of that in between. It was something that I carefully analized for a long, long time, and I came to the conclusion that it just had to be.

So I’ve made a first DIGITAL draft of the new first page of the comic thingy. It’s still shitty, but it’s getting better all the time. I will post it on a separate, umm, post. I’m adding a couple of extra pages to the existing ones to correct some aspects and to add more to the “““plot”““ I’m making here.

However, I also expect to make a new illustration along the way, to keep this blog alive.

Hey lads.

So, since this experiment isn’t working, I’m discon- kidding. I’ll keep posting these little updates.

I revised the comic thing and I’ve come up with two ideas for the ending. We all know Mineta ends in the hospital, but I have a couple of things in mind to make the actual ending part funny. One of them is ending with a predictable, safe punchline of some sorts, and the other is doing exactly the same, but up to eleven.

Stupidly enough, I feel I get more concentrated on this kind of stuff when I’m at school (but only when I’m not doing my final projects). Possibly, it’s because I’m out of too many distractions, like video games and trolling around in 4chan, which I have to say, have consumed a LOT of my time these past weeks.

Boring text again

Last night there was a blackout in my neighborhood. This week we got temperatures between -2ºC and 1ºC and it snowed on the mountains surrounding my city, and last night was no exception.

Anyway, electricity is back, the sun has come out again, and I managed to survive a very cold night.

I will be back in action with the old Mineta comic starting today. I’ll try to flesh up a few things about the “plot” first.

My laptop decided to fuck up. I don’t have any clue of what could’ve happened. Guess I’ll have to wait till I’m home to continue with this. If it looks like I’m too pissed off, don’t worry. I was just having a bit of trouble holding my phone and my pen at the same time.

Kimi no na wa

I watched it for the third time today. I swear I was going to get started with my pending works, but I had to get out of town again (brought my laptop!), and my cousin wanted to watch it...

It’s been three times, and I’m still crying by the end. Now, here I am, listening non-stop to RADWIMPS next to a pile of used Kleenex, most of them soaked in tears.

Shipping stuff.

Remember that Izuku x Tooru sketch from the other day? I’ll be redrawing it on SAI this weekend. As I was saying before, I’ve been experimenting a bit with colors and lineart, and this drawing will probably be no different in such regards.

Now, you may be wondering, “what’s up with those ships you’ve got?”

Well, it’s just that it’s fun to draw art for those uncommon shippings. In fact, I made a Tsuyu x Todoroki one a couple of months ago when I was at school, which looks very much like the Izuku x Tooru one (basically the same pose... kinda makes me feel ashamed for not having many ideas for poses...), and I’m thinking of doing some more sketches of these odd combos.

If you were wondering about my OTPs, however...

When I started watching, no kidding, I was drawn into shipping Izuku with Tsuyu, Iida with Ochako, and even Grapes with Momo *shudders*. But that was only when I was just starting. After finally reading the manga, I was convinced that IzuOcha was the way to go (sorry Kacchako shippers), while I think Todo and Momo have very, very high chances of ending together as well.

Room for Improvement

There’s two (2) things that I feel urged to improve: drawing hands, and coloring/shading. Drawing hands, be it on paper or on tablet, has to be the most difficult thing for me. I don’t like hiding hands because I sometimes feel that’s like cheating. But they do are very troublesome for me. I admire how there are artists who can draw hands in a pinch like it was no big deal, while no matter how much I try different ways to approach them, they still look wonky to me.

Now, my problem with coloring and shading is that I don’t have a particular ‘style’ or method that I will always follow. I experiment A LOT with lineart and coloring: sometimes I do it like in the Tsuyu 3.0 and Mallow drawings, with gradient shading, and many times I just paint basic shades. Yet I don’t feel very confident about the way I do either; I feel that many of my drawings lack volume and depth. Remember the Owl Might gifs I reblogged earlier? That’s very close to the way I want to color and the way I want my lighting and shades look like. I’m a fan of smooth lines that look almost like they were drawn with a pencil. At the same time, however, I admire how there’s a lot of artists out there who draw with shaky, uneven strokes instead of smooth ones, that still manage make fantastic art. Generally, their coloring is fantastic, knowing perfectly how to add volume to their art without making it look uncanny.
