Hello, Tumblr. I would like to inform you of a new feature in your Settings.

Your location is accessible for you to view. That’s where you logged into your account tonight, last night, and the night before. In fact, I see it’s a pretty good log of where you have logged into your account dating back quite some time. The format is very detailed too.

The information I used is obviously fake. That appears to be your city, state, and IP address, if I’m not mistaken.

What does this mean?

Well, let me stress that you can find this information by clicking on your Settings icon at the top of your dashboard and the Account option on the right side of the screen. You click two links, and you have your location staring you in the face.

Imagine you get online one day to find that your Tumblr account has been hacked. Now, not only do you have to worry about someone knowing your password, but you have to worry about your personal safety as well. That person could have easily seen your location. They know what time you usually log in, i.e. when you’re awake and, through that information, when you’re asleep. With a single password, a stranger can find you.

Some people are crazy, man, and I don’t like that Tumblr has just made it easier for crazy people to do crazy things. I’m tired of being cyber stalked by websites. The least Tumblr can do is hide that information unless it is requested.

Anyway, it’s just something that I found disturbing, and I wanted to inform anyone else who may not be comfortable with it.
