hey girl I picked you an information bouquet for your mind vase
Trying out something new: combining my love of #Bookstagram-s with #CollageArt. One of the New York Times 10 Best Books of 2018, Michael Pollan’s *How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence* is an entertaining, educational “mental travelogue” through human consciousness. A solid 5 star read, this book adds a layer of science and history to the study of ineffability. Pollan, a self-dubbed “reluctant psychonaut,” deftly navigates the Mind at Large, Nature, consciousness, the dissolution of the personal ego and letting go of rigid patterns of thought in “a triumph of participatory journalism." “Normal waking consciousness might seem to offer a faithful map to the territory of reality, and it is good for many things, but it is only a map—and not the only map.” https://www.instagram.com/p/BuSsqRsDW27/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1kjt3knertl8k

The ghosts of all the women you used to be are all so proud of who you have become, storm child made of wild and flame.

There was a young lady of Wight Who traveled much faster than light. She departed one day, In a relative way, And arrived on the previous night. — Stephen Hawking, ‘A Briefer History of Time.’ This book is packed full of mind expanding theories, insights, cute quarks, relative everything, and a satisfyingly concise approach to the secrets at the heart of time and space. I enjoyed it slightly more than Neil deGrasse Tyson’s ‘Astrophysics for People in a Hurry,’ because of Hawking’s coverage of time travel and string theory — also, ping pong balls made more appearances than one might guess. After finishing ‘A Briefer History of Time,’ I realize how *relatively* sound the science is in Blake Crouch’s ’Dark Matter’ and Elan Mastai’s ’All Our Wrong Todays’ (perhaps more-so the latter than the former). What are your favorite time travel/alternative timeline/space-related reads?
