I think that was just popular fanon but I'm not so sure now. And it's more like mix of something what Himaruya wanted and the fact that Spain wanted South Italy to be a wealth colony, I guess.
I have a strong dislike for Turkey. Yeah, I’m Turkish. Because he fools our country. His name “Sadık Adnan” are Arabic words. And “Adnan” is a name, it is so rare for a surname. It looks like you googled “Turkish names” and combined first two you’ve found. I hate his skin colour, HE SHOULDN’T BE TANNED! I’m actually ok with wrong colour but fans go like “Oh, Turkey has a right skin colour” no, he does not. His “new awesome right” skin colour offends EVERY TURKISH who watches Hetalia. What you expect, Greeks are as white as hell and when you skip to Turkey they all turn black. [i have nothing against black people]
What about his fez? Turkish does not wear them since 1925. And his accent in English dub, god, Turkish accent is the most straight accent, it has nothing. Why does he has a German accent? And he is shown as a bad charachter because he picked on Romano. Thanks Himaruya, everyone thinks Turkey is the biggest bully in the universe. noone thinks Kawaii-desu-Igirusu-chan as a violent, he raided 200 countries for god’s sake.[no offense, i love England]. There is something called “Turkish Hate” and that stuff is making it more. People still call him Ottoman Empire, that is as bad as calling Germany Nazi. He looks so Arabic and that is like calling a Japanese Chinese. Turkish get easily offended by calling Arabic. Final thing, why does he wears a mask? If there was a person who needed to wear mask, it’d be N.Italy. He is showing our country so wrong… Wronger than it should be and offends me like hell.

The only thing I can see different from Fem!England's nurse uniform and the actual WW2 English nurse uniform is that the apron on Fem!England's has the two pockets on it and the actual WW2 English nurse uniform didn't,plus Fem!England's apron is a bit frilly,also I'm pretty sure the English nurses back then didn't put their hair in pigtails,uhh..yeah that's something I needed to point out and get of my chest-Anon

I think it is strange in the canon that England wears his WW1/WW2 uniform during the Hetalia episode on the Opium Wars.
As these series of wars took place in the 19th century I don't understand why England isn't dressed in the traditional British 'redcoat' uniform, which was a very popular form of dress in the British military at the time.

Spain 2nd Last name
Spain 2nd Last name (called mothers last name in Spanish bothers me. I'm sure that 'Carriedo' it's not a real Last name (at least in Spanish); when I search for it everything is about AphSpain. I think that 'Carriendo' sounds more appropriated (this is an actually a last name). A better last name it would be taken from one of the Spanish provinces, which are used at last names; it was said he was going to have a sister who would represent Castilla, so he would probably represent Aragon the 2nd kingdom that made Spain. So Antonio Fernandez de Aragon sound like a pretty perfect Spanish name to me. ((this however could be a translation error it had happen with other characters, I believe, and it is in fact Carriendo))

I really hate Egypts first name..his full name is Gupta Mohamad Hassan, his second and third name are ok they are used in Egypt….but his first name Gupta makes me pissed off firstly its to EVEN A NAME USED IN EGYPT second if Egyot were to say his name he’s going to say it gubta because he’s most Likely not going to be able to say the letter ‘p’ it’s not in the arabic language which is you know the offical language of the country can’t he have a name that’s used it in I dunno…EGYPT

A friend drew this Christmas Truce picture for me. I saw this fantastic Hetalia GIF-set of Germany and England in 1914 and of course I read the article about it as well. It’s just a lovely story and it also makes me happy that Saxons were in big numbers involved. So I asked for a Hetalia drawing that also has Saxony in it and here we are. Thank you so much dear for drawing it!
In the comic France is shown complaing how God was not on his side then Germany captures him. Historically France did put up a fight though in the end they lost. They helped hold the Germans at Dunkirk to help the British retreat back to England Also Degaulle (a french general) fled to England and created the Free French forces. So even though the country gave up. Some of the people did not.

In Hetalia: Belarus is always shown only as Lithuania's crush. They dated with each other but nothing else.
Actually: During 1919 (for about seven months) there was a country called Lithuanian–Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic. So similarly to Austria-Hungary, Lithuania and Belarus should have been married couple for those seven months and then they should have gotten divorced, just like Austria and Hungary.

Sweden's referred to as "The Lion of the North" in many fanworks and possibly in canon as well (can't remember). But to my knowledge "Lion of the North" refers to Gustavus Adolphus, not Sweden itself. Which is right? Or was "Lion" a nickname for both country and king?
According to some sources which I tried to find, "The Lion of the North" it's not Sweden as a country, this is Gustavus Adolphus' nickname, so you're right :)
In Episode 29 Estonia suggests eating ‘piirakka’. That is actually a Finnish word and the food pictured derives from Karjala (Karjalan piirakas), an Eastern part of Finland. It’s called ‘Karjala pirukas’ in Estonian, but is not really a very common thing to eat in Estonia.

Himaruya shows relations between following characters: Japan & Greece; Prussia & Hungary; Turkey & Iceland; Cuba & Canada
It's not a secret that they're fictional characters and in reality these countries had little in common. I'm not calling it a mistake, but IMO it would be more interesting if Himaruya could show various relations between characters that have also real connections. He doesn't have to add new characters, but the variety of relations between existing characters that still haven't appeared together - why not? Don't we all want to see our favourite historical pairings in canon? :)

I get the whole “Braginsky is the correct Russian surname, Braginski is actually Polish” thing
But is it not possible for a Russian to accidentally anglicize Брагинский incorrectly and have the mistranslation be Braginski?
I mean, I know Google Translate isn’t the most reliable source in the world, but it comes up with Braginski as being an alternative translation
I don’t know much about translating from Russian/Cyrillic so forgive me if I’m wrong
It’s not about one letter at the ending, but about the bigger ending part of the surname. Typical Polish noble surnames end with “ski” (or “sky” if you anglicize it) or “cki”, if male, or “ska”/”cka” if female. On the other hand typical Russian surnames end with “ov” (like Bulhakov) or “ev” (like “Zviagincev”). Endings “ic” are a bit more typical for the southern Slavic countries, but they can appear in for example Poland. Of course there are cultural influences here and there and all of it mix sometimes, but “ski” ending is much more typical for Poland. Very few Russians have surnames ending with “ski”/”sky”, but hell a lot of Poles have this ending in their surnames. My own surname ends with “ska” (because I’m a woman. Only males have “ski”) and I’m 100% Polish.
