However, nobody can agree on a definition. proshippers claim antis are pro-censorship, and antis claim proshippers are anti-tagging.
Why’d I just see someone say people under the age of 17 shouldn’t be allowed to learn about politics… can we be serious for two fucking seconds ever?? You realize how ingrained politics is into day-to-day life and saying they “shouldn’t be exposed to politics” would only create an echo chamber because they wouldn’t be able to do their own research. You understand that, right? This isn’t “protecting children”, it’s a stupid ass privileged uneducated take. People aren’t going against you because you’re trying to “protect children” they’re disagreeing with the dumb shit you said😭

This will not lead to less scared children. It’ll lead to uninformed adults who know nothing about what is going on in the world and in the country. You’re just actively promoting the refusal to educate children/young adults on what is going on in the world. Knowledge is our most powerful tool. This IS a privileged take.
Also there is a huge difference between “kids shouldn’t be stressed about politics” and “anyone under 17 shouldn’t learn about politics because it corrupts them and their mental health”. “Children” is such a broad category especially if you’re including late teens in it.
Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).
When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".
When the boat is still being built, your say "it".
When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".
When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".
When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.
If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").
If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")
If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").
If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.
If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.
I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.

it really pisses me off when adults sit there and drill it into kids’ heads that their youth is fleeting and tell them things like “enjoy your childhood while it lasts because this is the best it’s gonna get”. why are you telling children that adulthood is the worst thing they can experience? seriously what the fuck is wrong with you, why are you trying to make them feel like growing up is a fate worse than death? trying to convince them their life is over before it even begins? i’m tired of that shit. because tell my why my 12 year old cousin told me when she turns 30 she’ll be so depressed she’s just gonna cry all the time. what the fuck. kids don’t need to hear that their already stressful and overwhelming lives are never going to get better, that the abuse and lack of autonomy they face is apparently the highlight of their lives. they need to hear about adults who are happy to be alive and happy to have made it to their age. they need to know that growing up rules, it’s a gift and life does not have to suck for them, that they have a future that’s worth sticking around for. this rhetoric is so damaging mentally and i’m about to start hitting the adults who parrot it. i’m sorry you hate your life but you don’t get to dump your issues on these kids. don’t piss me off and leave these babies alone!
Im willing to bet some adults who use that rhetoric are trying to push their children away from anything that gives them autonomy. a job, living on their own, just having life that doesnt center their parents. make them crave childhood and therefore give up their autonomy

Hey, as a Scotsman who grew up speaking Scots (the language you're using in your tags) I'd like to give my opinion on this.
It seems like you're just aestheticising a language you have no real understanding about the cultural history of. If you understood the cultural history behind this language and how it's still treated today, you would understand that boiling it down to an aesthetic while people who natively speak the language are harassed or spoken down to for speaking it is insensitive. — And also while young Scottish people aren't being allowed to be fully literate in it either!
You're also incorrectly using common sayings within the language, which further proves your misunderstanding and lack of care for it as a language outside of the character you like.
You can appreciate a Scottish character without misusing Scots sayings, you can appreciate a Scottish character without treating our language as an aesthetic.
If you're genuinely interested in the language, consider learning it outside of your character if you haven't already, and support the creation of more media in Scots.
I dont have much to add (because prev ate!) but. Im a native scots speaker who hasnt been allowed to speak it or able to learn it.
so many people dont recognise scots as its own language. So many people dont even know it is its own language. Media in scots is depleting fast, and every single school ive come into contact with teaches standard british english rather than scots. Its a language that is dying out.
So when you use scottish words just. Because theyre from your source. its disrespectful. You dont even recognise that youre using another languages words. if you had put in effort to learn scots, research its history, it would be closer to appreciation than appropriation.
we arent an aesthetic. Scots is an endangered language. And the way to keep it alive and respected isnt by incorrectly used tags by a non scot speaker on a tumblr blog.
