It is as if grief itself were something sacred, something that might shatter if disturbed. You felt it most beneath the vaulted ceilings of the Red Keep, where memory clung like smoke that would not clear.

The words had been repeated to you so often they had lost all meaning.

So you stand once more before the court, draped not in mourning black but in silks befitting a bride, and prepare to wed the man who killed your husband.

The court watches with the same hungry reverence they had shown years ago when you wed Baelor Targaryenโ your Baelor, heir to the Iron Throne, beloved by all who knew his name.
That wedding had been joy.
You remember laughter echoing through these same halls. Music spilling into the streets of Kingโs Landing. The way his hand had felt in yours: warm, certain, yours.
You had been golden then. Untouchable.
You had thought nothing in this world could rival the love you shared.
Nothing could replace it.
Yet here you stand, testing the very memory of it.
The vows fall from your lips, the same words you once spoke with unrestrained joy. Now they feel heavier. Softer. As though each one carries something buried beneath it.
A ghost threads through every promise.
When you finally look at Maekar, he is already watching you.
Not boldly. Not expectantly.
Carefully.
There is something restrained in him, something held back so tightly it feels as though it might break free if given the chance. His shoulders are set, his jaw tight, but his hands, when they find your arms, are gentle.

As though you might shatter beneath his touch.
Or as though he does not believe he has the right to touch you at all.

You meet his gaze, and for a moment, you see it, clear as day.
Guilt.

The kind that roots itself deep and refuses to leave.
You give a small nod.

But it is enough.
When his lips meet yours, the world does not stop. There is no rush of feeling, no warmth like you remember.

Hesitation.
Reverence.
His grip is careful, his touch restrained, as though he is holding something that was never meant to be his.

When you pull away, you offer him a smile.

It is the same smile you had given Baelor as he lay dying in your arms. The one you forced through tears, the one that told him, without words, that everything would be alright.

His mouth twitches, as though he tries, but his gaze drops instead, to your hands, to the space between you, anywhere but your eyes.

The court stirs.
The moment ends.
But the weight does not.
You step forward together, side by side, your hands entwined for all to see. His fingers are warm, steady but there is tension in them, a quiet restraint, as though he is afraid to hold you too tightly.
Or afraid to let go.

His voice is barely more than a breath, lost beneath the murmur of the court as you walk.
You tighten your grip on his hand, stopping him.
โI know.โ
The words come quickly. Too quickly.
You have said them before. To yourself. To others.
You repeat them now like prayer.
โIt was battle,โ you continue, softer now. โChaos. It was not deliberate.โ
He exhales, but it is not relief.
It is something heavier.
โI see it,โ he admits. โEvery time I close my eyes.โ
You do not ask what.
You already know.
There are moments when the light strikes his face just so, when you see it too.
The crack of metal.
The way Baelor Targaryen fell.
The way the world split open.
And in those moments, you mourn all over again.
โWe will not speak of this here,โ you say quietly, not unkindly.
He nods.
Because this is not a place for grief.
This is a place for appearances.
You reach the end of the hall, turning to face the court once more.
Prince and Princess.
Husband and wife.
A united front.
Your hand remains in his, your fingers tightening just slightlyโฆ not out of affection, not yet, but out of something else.

Shared ruin.

Maekar glances at you then, truly looks at you for the first time since the ceremony began.
There is something in his expression you do not expect.
Not just guilt.
Not just grief.
But something quieter.
Something almost like gratitude.

You stand there together before the court, hands entwined.
Not in love.
Not yet.
But in solidarity.
Two survivors of the same tragedy.
Two penitents bound by the same sin, one real, one imagined.
Your fingers tighten around his.
As though, if you let go, you might both fall apart.
As though holding on is the only thing keeping either of you standing.
And so you do.
You hold on.
And you push it down.
And you pray the weight of it does not break you.
โ Authorโs Note: I had to write something for these two fine old men. They have completely invaded my every thought that I couldnโt hold myself from writing something.
Inspired by Lizzy McAlpineโs song โPushing it down and prayingโ letโs just say this is my interpretation of what that song means, seeing as many are arguing or talking abt it.

It's a fanfic where they're married, Reader is actually Bakugou's ex (Bakugou cheated on her with Kirishima), they have children and stuff. I need to find it!

Not silentโ but the kind of quiet that made the air feel heavier. The kind that pulled your thoughts out of hiding and laid them bare.
Lando sat on the floor by the window, hoodie loose, feet bare, glass of something half-finished beside him. His phone was warm in his palm from how long he'd been holding it, doing nothing but scrolling.
It had been hours since the comments started flooding his lando.jpg post.
"YNโs in Monaco??"
"Saw someone who looked like her near Larvotto ๐"
"Why do I feel like theyโre both pretending not to be in the same city rn lol"
He hadnโt answered. Not one. But he'd seen them all.
Then there was your postโ lunch with your cousin. No geotag. Just vibes. But the background? The chairs? The salt-and-pepper shakers? He knew that cafรฉ. Everyone local did.
Still, denial clung to him like an old hoodie. Familiar. Comforting. False.
Until he made a mistake.
He clicked on the last slide. The cousin. A quick username check led him to a profile. Privateโ obviouslyโ but the bio had a Monaco pin. Lando hesitated. Then sent a request. It was stupid, maybe, but curiosity itched at his skin like a rash.
When your cousin accepted thirty minutes later, Lando dove in.
A recent post. And under it, a comment from someone:
"is she still playing hard to get?"
There it was.
Undeniable.
He leaned back against the wall and stared at the screen, lips parted slightly in disbelief. His pulse quickenedโ not with excitement, but with this weird mix of nerves and... need. He didnโt know what to do with himself.
She was really here. In the same city. Minutes away.
And she hadnโt told him.
He thumbed over the comment section again, hovering over the reply box. Maybe something light. Easy. Something like:
"Pls tell your cousin to quit trying to lie to me."
Or maybe just an emoji. The eyes ๐ maybe. Keep it vague. Keep it safe.
He typed. Erased. Typed again.
Paused.
His finger hovered over the send button.
He didnโt know why he was hesitating so hard. It was just a comment. Just her. Right?
But that was the thing. You werenโt just her. You wereโฆ you. That girl. The girl. The one who got under his skin in the softest, strangest way.
The one who never left his head.
He was seconds from sending it when his phone buzzed again.
A message.

Lando blinked.
He let out a small breath of a laugh. Unconscious, quiet, but real.
He didn't answer right away.
Didn't even click the notification.
He just stared at it.
Heart rattling in his chest like it was trying to tell him something.
He didnโt know what to say. Not yet.
So instead, he leaned his head back, let the quiet wrap around him again, and smiled like an idiot.
A/N: We're almost at the end people! Also, why is it that when Lando crashed is the race I chose not to watch? Am I tripping or am I... perhaps McLaren's lucky charm? Tell me I'm delusional or else I'm gonna start believing.
No because I have so many ideas for a fic that Iโd love to read abt but I canโt find a single one with the specific plot I hv in my mind ๐ญ and it so frustrating because Iโve been hyper fixated on this one idea for like close to a whole week but I havenโt been able to find anything even similar to it ๐ฅฒ
And I know Iโm not a writer but Iโm honestly contemplating giving it a go just so I can get that idea out of my head and finally hv some well needed peace of mind.

Today was supposed to be Quali in Imola.
You were meant to be watching it from your couch, probably with a half eaten bag of chips and your phone somewhere buried in the cushions. But instead, you were standing in your room, towel draped over your shoulders, hair still damp, trying not to overthink the weekend ahead.
From behind you, Lhea was elbow deep in your closet. โYou couldnโt have picked your outfit last night?โ she grumbled, flipping through hangers like she had a personal vendetta.
โI was tired,โ you said simply, though the real reason was that your mind had been spinning too fast to care about clothes.
โFound it!โ she said, finally tugging the top free and tossing it your way. You caught it without looking.
As you slipped it on, Lhea plugged in the hair dryer and started working through your hair. It was something she always did for you when she knew you were anxious. She never said anything about itโ just turned it on and got to work.
โYou excited for Monaco?โ she asked, casual, but with that edge in her voice like she already knew the answer.
You caught your own reflection in the mirror. You looked calm. Too calm. The kind of calm that only shows up when your nerves are tucked neatly out of sight.
โMhm. Very,โ you said.
In the mirror, Lhea was smirking.
โI can see you smirking,โ you muttered.
She laughed under her breath, clearly satisfied with herself. โJustโฆ keep me posted, okay?โ
You rolled your eyes, but not in annoyance. It was easier than saying thanks for worrying about me. โYeah, yeah.โ
โDone,โ she said, turning off the dryer. She ran her fingers gently through your hair, combing it into place like she always did when you had somewhere important to be.
โThanks, Lhea. Youโre a lifesaver.โ
โYeah, yeah. What would you even do without me?โ
You let out a small laughโ half genuine, half a breath to push the nerves back down.
โCome on,โ she said, grabbing her keys. โLetโs get you to the airport.

At the airport, you double-checked everythingโ passport, wallet, charger, tickets. Once you were sure you had it all, you turned to Lhea.
โGot everything?โ she asked.
You nodded. โThink so.โ
She gave you a quick once-over, then pulled you into a short but tight hug.
โMake sure you donโt pick up someone elseโs bag this time,โ she teased. โYou have to stay loyal to Lando, remember?โ
You let out a laugh. โNo promises.โ
Before either of you could say anything else, the overhead speakers announced your flight.
โOop, thatโs me.โ
You wrapped her in one last hugโ longer this time.
โHave a safe trip,โ she said, squeezing you once before pulling back.
โWill do.โ
With one last smile, you turned toward the gate.
