She looks unsure, like maybe this is a test, but remembers this is Nick and where would she even get an idea like that from? Why’s she on the defensive?
“If you’re sure, Nick,” she responds, looking down at her clipboard for a brief instance in thought. “…Maybe looking into that guard Geneva came to us about?” She’s unsure about that one; her dislike of political affairs coloring her interest in the case. She’d rather stay out of them than end up on McDonough’s shit list…though, since his secretary was the one who came to the agency….
“It doesn’t seem like it could get violent,” she ponders, “…But then again…a game of checkers could get violent nowadays.”
From a logical standpoint, she would agree with him. But every once in a while her more sensitive side shows through and it muddies the waters, so to speak. But Nick grounds her, and for that, she is grateful. …That, among countless other things.

guns that valentine sometimes doubted even had anything to back them up with, if he was being honest (then again, what does he know? he’s just an oil can who knows and thinks too much). perhaps, if the outcome was greatly unanticipated and a little on the extreme side, things could get complicated. but it’s not like there’ll be a REPEAT of the crocker case guy always was a little off, who even provides facial reconstruction in these circumstances? but right. geneva. complaints were minor enough, no clear signs of escalation; just a civil problem that needed solving and would suffice as a good doorway into more hands-on situations for ellie. maybe he was a little too right when he said she has good judgement.
