True Black liberation can never be achieved without securing equality for every man, woman, and child in the community. Freedom for some and continued oppression for others isn’t overcoming. It’s a job half done. The pursuit of equality and liberation should be a shared responsibility within the community with everyone playing their part.

Coming of Age in Mississippi [Book Review] | Noire Histoir

Coming of Age in Mississippi is the story of Anne Moody, a young Black woman, coming of age in rural Mississippi during the 40’s and 50’s.

It was refreshing to read about the development of an activist juxtaposed against a young woman’s journey to define herself. Anne Moody’s introduction to and involvement in the Civil Rights Movement unfolds like a beautifully written story. But, there is also something sweet about her scandalous talent show performance, teen crushes, and first kisses.
