Do you have a date or location for when this happened? I would love to know https://www.tumblr.com/chantssecrets/774629155864281088/huey-p-newton-james-baldwin
Unfortunately, I have no idea where I got this photo. I also can't figure out where or when it was taken. What I do know is that James Baldwin and Huey P. Newton, leader of the Black Panther Party, met each other in October 1967 at the behest of Eldridge Cleaver for dinner at Claever's home. From this "arranged" meeting, a bond developed, with Baldwin supporting the Panthers' role in combating systemic racism. Their shared efforts helped bridge the generational and ideological divide between intellectuals of the civil rights movement and the Black Power movement. Deborah Major, Reginald Major's daughter (her father was present at this first meeting) writes in her blog: "Eldridge spent the rest of the evening kind of cowering in the back room. Huey and Jimmy got together and they were friends from then on."
In this 2007 issue of "Milestones" this photo was used…
Perhaps someone reading this knows more about this photo and can enlighten us.
