✨ I’m making some handmade WHA merch and I really need a little help with Olruggio! ✨

I’ve been a bit MIA lately because of work, lol, sorry.....

So I’m planning to make a set of handmade art cards for myself, my friends, and maybe even open some commissions later on.

With Qifrey, everything is pretty straightforward for me (water magic + dragons, easy). But with Olly... ugh, l’m a bit stuck!

I’ve read the whole manga, but for some reason, I can't quite grasp his specific visual motif? Like, yeah, he’s a fire magic user, but what’s his iconic flair? How should I depict his magic? Does he have a signature creature or animal form for his magic, or does his magic take a different shape?

Maybe I missed something or I'm just blind, lol! I’d deeply appreciate any help, headcanons, or ideas you guys have!

Today I finally started on a finished art piece and working out the design for my WHA OC!

So alongside some WIPs, I’m dropping a little bit of lore about his name. His name is Evander Hazen-Amarok.

Evander is his real, "human" name. It carries a beautiful double meaning: from Ancient Greek, it translates to "virtuous man," while in Northern languages, it means "warrior with a yew bow." He’s been a hunter his whole life, born in a place where hunting was a way of survival.

Hazen is a nickname that stuck with him later on. It traces back to the root meaning "ash-grey" (a nod to his premature grey hair after tragic events involving his loved ones) and the word "hare" (a symbol of sharp hearing and stealth). Although it’s hard to actually call him a hare, except maybe for his agility and swiftness that came naturally from his lifestyle.

Amarok is a title-nickname he earned after becoming a full-fledged witch. In Northern mythology, Amarok is a giant lone wolf that hunts in the dark of night. It attached to him almost by accident in the settlements he passed through while helping people—all due to his secretive nature and lone-wolf lifestyle.

If you look into why he’s named Hazen-Amarok, these nicknames were given to him in completely different settlements. This blend of different cultures reflects his core reality: Evander belongs to neither side. A witch without a home, a witch without a family.

Honestly, I didn’t have enough time to whip up a fully finished piece for the occasion, but I just HAD to make this sketch to celebrate! I fell in love with this world and fandom at first sight—

and I’m so so grateful I stumbled upon this masterpiece of a manga and watched the anime. I am permanently brainrotted now and waiting for the continuation SO PAINFULLY BAD

I miss my babies already. And I miss Qifrey. Especially Qifrey....
