Politics is completely incapable of moving forwards by a meaningful amount because of the worldview created by statist christianity. The mainstream political discourse has been so utterly polluted by a modern christian worldview that even attempting to discuss actual solutions to our problems has to fight through layers and layers of religious baggage. “Sin” is not real. “Sinners” do not exist. “Bad people” do not exist and therefore punishing people for their sins cannot actually be practiced, only hurting people for behaviors that result from the systems they grew up in. We HAVE to move past the concept of punishment and we cannot do that without moving past the omnipresence of christian belief.

Eternal Life Complacency

I've been pondering something for awhile, this is my attempt to put it into words.

Does anyone else feel like they were more complacent to the sufferings of the world before they left their religion (I'm talking specifically about Religions with an eternal life doctrine, like Christianity)? I didn't feel like I was complacent at the time, I felt like I genuinely cared about the poor, immigrants, POC, etc. I thought Christianity was teaching me to be sacrificial and I truly was passionate about that.

But, when I deconverted something shifted in me. It was like I suddenly felt the weight of the suffering of others in a new way. I felt this huge responsibility for my fellow human beings because, if this is the only life we have, then I don't want anyone to be miserable in it. They deserve so much better.

Am I onto something here? Is there a danger in Eternal Life doctrines to accept the world's suffering too much?

All I know, is that this is my experience.

No, I am not and will never feel grateful for the torture and slaughter of Jesus nor will I ever feel guilty for it. If anything, I am disgusted that any deity would demand the blood sacrifice of an innocent person to make up or atone for the wrongdoings of other people. It's completely nonsensical and immoral. An all powerful and all knowing being should have been able to come up with some other way to cleanse humanity of sin (which is its fault to begin with) but instead chose cruelty via the Crucifixion and the existence of Hell.

No, I am not grateful for a homicidal god's idea of redemption. I am not grateful for the death of the Sacrificial Lamb.

no matter my posts I occasionally get commentary like "well actually, what you're chriticizing about Christianity isn't actually a trait of Christianity, it's a trait of X part of the church".

Understand there is absolutely no way a Christian will accept a criticism of Christianity as something wrong with Christianity. They will cut off every part of Christianity I criticize as "not actually a part" even the bible itself.

When I say homophobia is a part of Christianity, that is not some fringe sect or only a criticism of "bad Christians" that is a criticism of the whole damn thing.

The massive Catholic church doesn't even like sex for pleasure how is that not Christianity!! Every evangelical church in hundreds of denominations preaches Adam and Eve!! Every Bible has bullshit about straight marriages being the center of the fucking universe! On an individual level, almost every Christian I meet is violently, proudly, unrelentingly homophobic.

So let me clarify,

when I say Christian people behave in vile ways, THAT IS CHRISTIANITY

When I say Christian doctrine is bad, THAT IS CHRISTIANITY.

When I say a popular official interpretation of the bible is bad, THAT IS CHRISTIANITY

When I say the Bible is bad, THAT IS CHRISTIANITY
