God forbids Arabs wanting to play their own characters and being tired of erasure. Charithra shouldn't be playing an Egyptian princess. It's everyone deserves a representation until it's Arabs or Egyptians. We are sick of playing the terrorists while Indians play our best characters.

You can be upset but going under every single post that is calling her pretty and saying stuff like “omg yay let’s celebrate this racist casting” is just being plain hateful and rude. Explain it correctly, have an actual conversation.

I will also say, as the OP of this post, that I had not seen the discourse over her being Indian as opposed to being Middle Eastern. I only saw people being rude about her being brown AT ALL. Because the anime made Vivi very fair-skinned, which Oda himself was irritated about apparently.

It's not up to me to comment on the intricacies of the casting. But One Piece is a made-up world. Alabasta is inspired by different real-world places, but that's all. Oda created the world and hand-picked the entire cast. So it's kinda the beginning and end right there.

It genuinely makes me sick to my stomach that something like this even has to be said. I had to hold back actual tears seeing Charithra screenshot the hate comments and post them on her story.

How can someone call themselves a fan of a media while blatantly misunderstanding everything about it? Luffy would hate every single one of the racists who comment heinous things under an actual person's posts because of a role. A role that isn't even a diversity cast. A role that the person was handpicked to play by THE CREATOR OF THE RESPECTIVE MEDIA, which by extension they also disrespect.

This is not a matter of taste, or opinion. It's blatant racism.

I wish this world didn't suck so much, but here we are.
