Starting the year with more wonderful commission art! This is the first of two pieces I commissioned from @doodlesfromthebird - of my characters Jayla and Isha from A Werewolf in October.

We're at the end of 2025 and I'm finally catching up on posting online 🖤

This November I managed to get another 50k words written on The Crawling Dark of Your Lover! I celebrated by treating myself to another art commission by @linnpuzzle as seen here 💚🖤💚

The scene above shows Omar and Anne pushing their magical skills a little too far and their teammate Doris rushing in to catch Anne before she faints. Why isn't Omar fainting too? Well, that's mighty suspicious, ain't it 😉

Commission time again! Once more the super talented @linnpuzzle has agreed to take on one of my characters and done a fantastic job bringing him to life 💙❤️ This is The Prince (who has a name, but for safety reasons he doesn't share it freely), the love interest of Ulrec from this previous post. They show up in book two of a series that starts with Mages and Marriage. The Prince has been nominated by his friends and allies to lead their post-revolution attempt at a peaceful transition from monarchy to democracy. He's doing his best to keep things together, but the court is less than trusting of those with fae ancestry, so...

Yeah, misunderstandings and tension abound!

The dark out in the woods is never the same as the dark of a city. I think we all know that, but knowing and remembering are two things alien to each other.

In my experience, recalling a forest at night is like recalling a broken leg. Even when you've gone through it, remembering the feel of it is slippery until you're back there. A snapped fibula must hurt. A glade after sunset must be dark. But how much it hurts and how dark it gets you won't fully appreciate until it happens again.

So, getting reacquainted with the void of a moonless night out in mother nature was where I found myself when the strangers approached my fire.

Introductions Without Names

There’s a boy sitting in a deep cave, singing. He comes here to sing when the work in the mines, the rough shoulder thumps of his coworkers, and the judging eyes of his father weigh too heavily on him. He sings folksongs and ditties from the radio. He sings with eyes closed and ears open, careful to not be caught unawares by anyone.

He hasn’t examined the cave walls.

I've been letting this project rest for a while, but I'm feeling renewed inspiration to work on it, to experiment with new outline methods for the second draft 😊💖

Current summary for this story: Merek, to most known only as the Chasm for his unnatural ability to cancel out all magic around him at will, has a problem. This problem is a person. This person is Thorzec Esk, one of the ruling High Mages. In their youth Esk and Merek were lovers, but after Esk showed his true colors and took his current position in society by bloody force, they had a falling out. Now, Esk all of a sudden seems determined to reconnect - and to find a spouse for Merek.

Glorious art I commissioned back in 2021 from the amazing @linnpuzzle , featuring the main characters of my (soon to be finished!) urban fantasy novel A Werewolf in October. Posting it now to celebrate that I'm on track with my editing and should be able to fully declare the whole project "done" next year 🥳

In the first picture, from left to right, you have: 1) Isha, monster hunter in training. 2) Arturo, reluctant vampire. 3) Jayla, enthusiastic werewolf. They are the novel's POV characters, and as you can see in the second picture, they have some hidden magics 😊

The last line I wrote (right now) on my current project "The Crawling Dark of Your Lover" is as follows:

“I do so enjoy you when you’re polite, Ivan. And when you’re not.” Mrs von Schwarzwald leaned back in her seat and gestured for them to line up in front of her, as if she were their superior officer instead of the relation of a murder suspect. She wore a deep red dress with layers upon layers of fabric flowing about the chair she sat enthroned on. A lesser tailor would have made her thin frame look frail buried in so much textile, but Mrs von Schwarzwald could afford the best that money could buy. She looked like a knife emerging from an artistic wound.

Celebrating 50k more words written on my project "The Crawling Dark of Your Lover" by commissioning more art of my main character Omar and his love interest Ivan 💖💖💖💖

The left images are them in during regular everyday life, off-duty. Omar is generally a bit shy, while Ivan is social. Both of them would go out of their way to help you if you were in trouble. They'd do that when on duty too, they'll just be more dramatic about it - as you can see in the images on the right 😁

Of all my many, maaaany WIPs, The Crawling Dark of Your Lover won this year's "what will I write on in November"-competition!

I'm having a hard time categorizing this story. It's a murder mystery; it's a romance; it's got several elements of cosmic horror but it's not specifically a horror story. Whatever it is, it sure is fun to (re)write!

Summary: An unusual murder has occurred. Not unusual in the manner of death - people ripped apart by shadows are far too common since the Years of Glass. No, what's unexpected is the victim. One of the city's elite, torn to shreds in his own home during a birthday celebration. Omar is an artist employed by the Queen's Shadows. Already busy solving a wave of kidnappings, the last thing his team needs is a dead socialite rocketing to the top of their priority list. Worse, soon the case threatens to reveal a secret Omar has been keeping since childhood. A secret that might lead to the love of his life executing him on the spot.

And rightfully so.

Finally deleted my NaNoWriMo account.

Feels... rough.

I did the challenge for the first time all the way back in 2011 and it's one of the few times a year that I can allow myself to be "selfish" and spend a lot of my free time writing, instead of doing all the other things you need to do as an adult.

I'll still try to keep up the writing tradition. Will try to do an unofficial version of the challenge still, with TrackBear and other resources.

Posting the mock-up covers from the NaNo website that I threw together myself for my different projects (not including the two brilliant ones my sister made 'cause they're not fully mine + are posted elsewhere).

Yrsa is a human runewitch, channeling her magic through writing as her focus. Her mother is a skyship merchant and her father is her mentor in magic. PS.
