SAEZURU 66 SPOILERS / MINI-SUMMARY (with pictures!)

I’m at work so the most I can do is spill a little tea.

This chapter has a lot of faces we don’t see too often.

Tsunakawa probably got Amou to do his work in school.

Yashiro flustered as fuck at his office.

Nanahara standing his ground to Yashiro.

No one can piss someone off the way Yashiro can. Kamiya…. What a good son you have become. I hope we learn your birthday one day.

I never thought we’d get the moment Yashiro made up his mind. But here it is.

I'll leave this here, and speculate later on what dumb thing Yashiro is going to do next to worry us, because we still have an entire volume to go (I hope!). For now, I think I'll just enjoy the Summer.

Here are some serious eyes to set the mood.

I'd like to give some thoughts on this chapter (especially because it moves the plot along a lot!) but I'm actually literally in the hospital as I type this preparing to give birth so it'll have to wait until after, lol

Yoneda Kou's name appears on the list of authors for the next chapter due out on May 29th, so it looks like this is not the end of the volume after all!

Starts with the page of Yashiro in the official preview of him reminiscing about Doumeki's words

Then, while covering his face with one hand, he kicks over the container (bucket) filled with water.

Leaning against the wall, he says: “…You’re way too stupid…!"

Scene changes to Tsunakawas place

Doumeki speaks to Tsunakawa

Tsunakawa: “Not going to kneel and apologize like you did four years ago?”

Doumeki: “…I won’t.”

His subordinates force his head down,

Tsunakawa kicks him in the face, and mentions that he knows Doumeki used to stay with Yashiro.

Tsunakawa: “You’ve got guts, showing up here.”

Doumeki: “I’m grateful for being taken in…”

Tsunakawa: “That’s all you’re grateful for?”

Doumeki’s face is pressed into the ground

Tsunakawa begins talking about Doumeki’s past, that he was a former police officer, that he has a younger sister and mother, and that even after prison he could’ve lived as a civilian.

Then he asks: “Why did you become yakuza…?”

This leads to the previewed panel of Doumeki released by the official account

Then, 

Tsunakawa: “What is Yashiro to you?”

Doumeki: “He’s my reason for living.”

Doumeki: “Because he’s someone precious to me, I protected him.” 

Tsunakawa tells him, “Couldn’t you at least hesitate a little?” 

and Ren and the other subordinates beat him badly. (😭😭) 

Tsunakawa: “Go take Kai’s life. Get your affairs in order. You’re a criminal killing another, no telling how many years you’ll eat prison food. And the moment you’re released back into society, you’ll be expelled from the family."

Kamiya is assigned as the witness to oversee it.

Scene changes to a hotel room somewhere

Kamiya hands Doumeki a gun

Doumeki thanks him for everything he’s done.

Kamiya: “You can’t say thank you, but you won’t apologize either? Idiot.”

Doumeki: “I won’t apologize for something I don’t truly mean.”

Doumeki says Tsunakawa isn’t the kind of person who wants apologies.

Kamiya responds that he actually valued Doumeki.

Kamiya: “You betrayed us and fell in love with a man, yeah, that’s not something we can accept.”

Doumeki: “I don’t think gender matters when it comes to someone important.”

Kamiya: “You sound annoyingly righteous.

Not like you ever expected to be understood anyway.

If that’s the case, at least don’t drag others into it.”

Doumeki: “…You’re right. That’s true.”

Then Kamiya brings up Doumeki’s younger sister.

Kamiya also had a younger sister, and says he regrets not being able to protect her (from abusive parents).

Kamiya: “Having parents and siblings…must be nice.”

Doumeki: “…That’s not like you, talking about yourself.”

Also, him being assigned to kill Kai and go to jail 😱😱 though ofc the plot won't be as simple. 

Kamiya had said he wanted to do something big in a previous chapter and here, at the end of this chapter he's suddenly talking about personal things which seems to be out of character as Doumeki says...

Lots of what ifs right there even without including Misumi's assignment for Yashiro involving Kai and Yashiros potential actions after Doumekis words last chapter.

The box lurks 👀

A couple of thoughts below the cut.

I haven't had too much time to look at the fandom's reaction to this chapter yet, but I personally found it really sad.

I'm happy that Doumeki tried to open up to Yashiro, but the reality of him forcing himself on Y is still glaringly apparent and I'm really curious to see how Sensei resolves that conflict.

I was very interested to see D use the term "greedy" (欲が出た which can also be translated as "desirous") because it reminded me again of his name's connection with the yokai Dodomeki. (I talked about his name and it's connection to this yokai among other things in this post a long time ago.) That was another little hint to me that maybe D's story has some parallels with the Dodomeki's themes around greed and taking things that don't belong to you, not money as in the yokai's tale, but "taking" Yashiro.

It also seems like Sensei is setting D up to do something really, really stupid. lol I don't have any great ideas about what that could be, but the foreshadowing is there.

And the damn box! The box and the contact case therein that haunts the narrative! How, I wonder, will that box play a role as we approach the final arc?

Speaking of final arcs - I thought this might have been the last chapter for volume 10, but it looks like Sensei is scheduled to appear in the next issue out on March 31st, so that's exciting ^^ I think probably ch 65 will be the end of volume 10 and if past is prologue Sensei will then take a break before volume 11 starts. That's all just speculation though, who knows!

One last thing- I will be giving birth on April 7th so please be patient with me (as most of you have been, thank you! <3) when ch 65 comes out. I'm having a c section so recovery will likely take a long time, not to mention, assuming no one dies like last time, I'll have a little human attached to me at all times (allow me my dark humor, it's how I survive), so while I'll try my best to get the chapter out before the surgery I won't make any promises.

After the page from the second preview where doumeki collapses while trying to stand up

• Doumeki: "…S-sorry…"

• Yashiro: "It's fine. Don’t talk."

• Saying that, Yashiro puts Doumeki's arm around his shoulder and carries him to the bed

• Doumeki grabs Yashiro’s arm and says, "Don't go…" and then loses consciousness

• Yashiro prepares a towel for Doumeki's forehead and some water, and stays to nurse him

• Doumeki wakes up

• When he sits up, he sees Yashiro sleeping while seated against the wall

• Doumeki moves closer, notices the bucket of water nearby, and understands what happened.

• As he looks at Yashiro’s sleeping face, he recalls Kageyama's words and reaches out-

• but just then, his phone rings.

• The ringtone wakes Yashiro.

• Tsunakawa: "It's me."

• Doumeki: "…Yes."

• Tsunakawa: "Come to the main house. Now."

• Doumeki: "Understood."

• Yashiro looks up at Doumeki, who has lowered his gaze

• Yashiro asks if it was Tsunakawa calling

• Doumeki asks what Yashiro had originally come for

• Yashiro dodges the question

"What was it again?"

• He pretends he’s forgotten

• Yashiro then asks whether it was really okay to send the club mama who people think Doumeki is involved with home.

• Doumeki: "When did I ever say I was dating her?"

• Yashiro: "…You're not?"

• Doumeki’s wound starts to hurt, so he sits down and explains

 • The club mama is his childhood friend

• He was her tattoo practice model

• She was saving money at the club so she could become independent as a tattoo artist

• Yashiro: "I… see."

• Doumeki: "Would it have been more convenient if we were dating?"

• Yashiro: "…What do you mean by that?"

• Doumeki: "I wondered if that would make you feel more at ease."

• Yashiro: "At ease…? What are you talking about?"

• Doumeki: "Do you really not understand?"

• Yashiro: "It doesn’t matter to me either way. I don’t care who you’re dating as long as I can have sex, It doesn’t even have to be you"

• Doumeki: "I-"

SPOILERS/THOUGHTS UNDER THE CUT

Yashiro sure is a crafty bastard with all the stuff he pulled with Yamakawa, huh? It took me a hot minute to realize what had happened, but if you got it right away then you're a smart cookie. lol Also, what exactly does Misumi intend for Yashiro to do in order to get the guns back from Ryuuzu?? It sounds like he's letting Yashiro lead the way on the matter but no matter what happens Yashiro will be put in harm's way, it seems.

And what will Misumi do if he finds out that Y is shirking his given task in order to go visit Doumeki?

Speaking of Doumeki - the dude better just spill all his guts next chapter or else I think Y is gonna leave. lol I do like seeing him all sans-cool though- I miss the slightly naive, straightforward D. And Izumi-mama! Confirmation that she was indeed D's tattoo artist - very gratifying to those who had been saying so all along, lol. I still really want to know what exactly about that fact was so scandalous that they had to keep it hidden. I'm guessing that maybe Izumi-san herself requested that D keep that a secret so when people started guessing that they were dating, D just went with it. But I wonder why Izumi-san wants that kept a secret? It's not taboo or uncommon for there to be female tattoo artists here in Japan. 🤔

Anyway - next chapter comes out here in Japan on January 30th (Y's birthday <3) and it looks like it's going to be a D and Y centric chapter so that'll be nice ^^ I'll do my best to get the chapter out in a more timely manner.

Okuyama is really growing on me. I think his characterization is an interesting foil to a lot of the other characters. He seems like a careful and actually caring man who truly believes in what the yakuza is and means as an organization/way of life. And the way he calls Kai out is super satisfying. lol Also poor D! Kamiya is such a snarky little butthole lol I can't wait to see how Y reacts when D can finally confront him about his right eye. Not to mention how Y will freak out at Kage when he realizes it was Kage who spilled the beans lol

For folks who were worried about me, thank you for sending kind words. I'm sorry to have caused y'all stress!

If you're curious about what happened, and at the risk of getting too personal - my partner has been suffering a pretty severe and total mental break. All my brain power basically went into supporting him and making sure we can still pay our bills while he's figuring it all out over the past few months and also the cherry on top is that I'm pregnant (!!!!11lkasjdfk). I do mean that sarcastically as well as earnestly - I'm very happy to be expecting another child, but the timing is.... a lot. lol Folks who have been following me for a while know that we lost our first child basically right after birth and with my partner being in such an incredibly fragile state at the moment, there's just... a lot of feelings all around.

So anyway! All that's to say thanks for being patient.

Chapter 63 is already released in Japan. I've read it and scanned it but I still need to clean and translate/typeset. I really wanted to get a summary out for ch 62, but it didn't end up happening and I'm sorry for saying I'd do it and not doing it. I don't plan to do a summary this time around for ch 63 either because I simply don't have the capacity 🙇 and I'd rather use that energy on getting the chapter out anyway!
