Happy 2nd anniversary to one of my favorite games!!! ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Few pieces of art have touched me as much as START AGAIN and ISAT have. I really cherish this game and it will always have a place in my heart. I'm not good at expressing myself through words, so here's a little drawing to compensate
So so so excited to see Sam play this character! I love his personality and how much room there is to evolve, be it for the better or worse.
I might share the thought process behind the piece because I had so much fun painting this and interpreting the character through the pose and the composition. The symbolism is subtle but it's there!!
This post gathered a lot of attention (thank you!) so I got a bit self conscious about sharing my thoughs haha
Here's the painting process, and also my overall thought process for making this piece
I wanted to explore three different concepts with this drawing. I wanted to represent Wick's religion, but also put a lot of focus on his personality, beliefs, and the duality of his character. (This was painted after episode one so I did not have much to analyze)
Religion:
I used a triangular composition because it is stable, but also reminds me of religious paintings. Although Wick is in the center, most elements point towards the Light symbol. He's important, but not more important than the Light
His staff and his head do not point towards the Light. There's room for doubt
The background patterns are appealing and drag you in
Wick's beliefs:
I tried to give him an unreadable expression. It can look like mercy, but also superiority or disgust. It's up to you
He's looking down on you. He has pure intentions, but I feel like he also feels morally superior to those who don't follow his religion (or at least, he used to). To reach a hand down to someone they need to be beneath you, right?
Wick's duality:
He's literally in a gradient between dark and light
His right hand is grabbing the staff with force, while his left hand has a looser grip (I really loved the contast between how he usually talks compared to how he snapped at Tyranny on ep1)
If he were the Candescent Creed's leader, or had an unbreakable belief, I would have given him a symmetrical pose, with his staff in the center. I also thought of putting the CC's symbol behind his head, like a halo, but he's not more important than the Light and shouldn't overshadow it. So above him it stays.

Sharing art is always hard for me because I am never proud of what I make. I don't feel compelled to draw easy things, since it doesn't pose a challenge, but I don't have the energy to draw difficult things for myself anymore. It's been a while since I have felt inspired. I want to relearn to have that passion.
It's also difficult sharing art knowing I will hate the piece within the next few days. It takes all my will and might to not erase the things I have posted.
This little account is, in a way, my way to test the waters and be vulnerable. I want to share my love of the world through my art, and I want to see other people's art, and enjoy the way they shape the world too. I want to keep in this account the drawings I no longer like, because there are people who might still enjoy them (I'm happy that people like that Daisy drawing, even if I don't anymore)
