How we feeling tonight Winions?
what do you mean my disability disables my abilities? what the fuck
I saw someone spell it "whimsicle" today. Like popsicle
no offense, but what was the point of that cool older lady character in Spirited Away
except, you know, to make me question my sexuality at 12 during midnight rewatches as I looked at her weirdly pretty mouth and had Questions
!!!Â
me, falling in love with every woman I see whose purpose is to eat and be pretty:
#her and Ursula from Kikiâs Delivery Service#the archetype is âlesbian who accidentally adopted this childâ
I mean, Iâm pretty sure Lin is supposed to represent what Chihiroâs future might be like if she accepted her role in the bath house and didnât try to maintain her own identity and values. Sheâs not a bad person, but sheâs hedonistic to exactly the extent that the bath house culture allows her to be as an employee and has no ambition beyond the system of favors, bribes, and petty intimidation between low-level workers. Sheâs traded her individuality and opportunity to better herself for the security of predictable exploitation and she doesnât seem to regret it.
I donât think itâs a coincidence that Lin is the only other major character who looks human throughout the movie - Iâm not certain she started out human, but I suspect she may have, and may have fully traded away her humanity. I do think itâs significant that she, unlike Chihiro and Haku, doesnât reclaim her name at the end of the story.
She doesnât want her independence or identity back. Her purpose is to eat and look pretty.
Alternate interpretation: I always thought Lin meant to be a comforting presence.
Sheâs the first bathhouse worker who is kind to Chihiro, helping her get her clothes and navigate her first work assignment and sneak food. One of the core themes of Spirited Away is finding your footing in a new and terrifying place, and Lin and Haku are key allies in Chihiroâs struggle to gain the skills and self-assurance she needs in order to thrive.
Linâs human appearance helps us and Chihiro feel more sympathetic towards her . Her familiarity with the system of favors and bribes makes her appealing as a role model who can demystify Chihiroâs new environment for her. Unlike the more inhuman occupants of the bathhouse, Lin looks like someone Chihiro could become in the future, and thatâs a good thing! Sheâs living proof that the bathhouse is not such a monstrous and scary place. Because Lin treats the bathhouse like home, Chihiro begins to see it as a home, too.
And once Chihiro starts to think of the bathhouse as her territory, she realizes that she has agency in this place as well. She uses its rules to her own advantage to free Haku and herself.
And that is the point of Chihiroâs journey in Spirited Away: itâs a metaphor for starting over in a new place and overcoming fear of the unfamiliar. After all, the frame story is Chihiroâs family moving to a new city. At the beginning of the movie, Chihiro is despondent, unhappy to be leaving her old friends behind. By the end, after making it through the spirit world, sheâs taking a much more active role in helping her parents settle into their new home.
TLDR: Lin is there to be Chihiroâs friend.
These theories coexist really well, I think. Lin has accepted her place within this system, and thatâs given her the confidence and experience to be a mentor for Chihiro. Because she knows the system, she can make things a little better for Chihiro.
Because Chihiro has a mentor and friend, she learns how to survive and even do well in the Bathhouse. Itâs because of Lin that Chihiro is able to not accept her place within this system and instead fight back, and in the end to make things a little better for everyone.
Thereâs something there about community, and easing the path for those who come after you. Lin doesnât regret her choices because they were the best choices she could make, and thatâs okay. Itâs not a tragedy. She got as far as she could get, and because she did, sheâs there to help Chihiro get farther.Â
And isnât that what weâre all here for, in the end? To go as far as we can, and then give a hand up to those coming after us? Itâs never a tragedy when children can go farther than their mentors ever could. Thatâs a triumph.

The ancient texts were true⊠They DO have a reaction image for everythingâŠ
You know, there's this cliché that teenage boys always eat massive amounts, but teenage girls really aren't that different if they're not suppressed by diet culture and body shaming. Like, I was a teenage girl who frankly just stopped bothering to fit into mainstream beauty ideals at some point, and I would regularly make myself just one big massive pot of pasta and devour it completely. This wasn't even stress eating or anything, I just genuinely needed the energy because you know, I was a teenager and my body was developing. I feel like so many teenage girls think they need to eat as little as possible to be petite and pretty, but the truth is that your body is developing just as intensely as teenage boys' bodies. Eat more, please, your body needs it.

Headcanon that Grace would hang this specific pride flag up in his classroom on Earth to show his kids he accepted them no matter what. And Stratt would pack it with his stuff, leaving him very confused the first time he wakes up on the Hail Mary. Once he makes it to Erid, he hangs it up in the Biodome near the classroom, explaining to the pebbles what it meant for people on Earth.
In case you don't know, it's a Pride flag that NASA made from different space pictures they took :D
I think itâs normal for people to be mad at each other sometimes even if theyâre close friends or family or intimate with each other. Like I think thatâs a normal and healthy part of relationships that can happen sometimes
âWhy were you on Mad At Me islandâ because at the time I was mad at you and yet our friendship has weathered that without trouble
I went to Mad At You island because my feelings are my problem. I needed to stomp down the beach until I could sit and watch the sunrise. I built a sandcastle and did some thinking. Then I boarded the good ship You Matter To Me and sailed it all the way to meet you on the Letâs Talk Shore of I Love You Island.
Oh, you think you're safe now?

i need everyone to get into college football right now i am dying to talk about the texas tech situation. this is the kind of thing that will be referenced for the next 100 years. there will be documentaries and biopics about this.
no one asked but here
texas tech's quartback, brendan sorsby, was investigated for sports gambling. i know sports betting is all the rage right now, but athletes themselves are not allowed to do it. it is Rule Number 1 and it is the highest priority rule for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), who governs all athletic programs at about 1,100 colleges in the US.
the invesitagetion of sorsby revealed that, not only did he place more than 9,000 sports bets when he himself was a collegiate athlete, but 40 of those bets were AGAINST HIS OWN TEAM when he was playing at indiana university. immediately, this threatens the integrity of the sport, and especially because indiana is the hottest team right now as the defending national champion.
the NCAA, which is largely a sham organization these days (they've truly lost their grasp and college athletics are the wild west now) actually enforced their Number 1 Rule and told sorsby his career is over, that he would never play college football again (and, subsequently, that he would never get drafted into the NFL because his college career was cut short).
well, because the NCAA is a husk of its former self, sorsby and texad tech immediately took this to court. MANY athletes have learned these past few seasons that if you can find a judge who's a fan of your team, you can get any NCAA ruling overturned. that's exactly what texas tech did. they filed a suit in Lubbock, where the university is located and where every judge is an alum of texas tech. so sorsby was granted an injunction and will now only be suspended for the first 2 games od the 2026 season (which are alwayd against no-name teams that will be destroyed regardless of who's suspended).
every other school in the country immediately went on the defensive because this is a very clear integretiy issue. so nebraska and georgia (sic em dawgs) released statements saying that all currently-scheduled competitions witb Texas Tech in ANY sport will be canceled and there will be no future schedulings. at least 3 of the major conferences (SEC, Big 10, Big 12) , who account for almost all division 1 sports teams in the country, are also in discussions about cancelling comtests. Texas Tech is part of the Big 12, and there is serious talk of all other teams in the conference shutting texas tech out.
now would probably be time where i say that texas tech is one of the wealthiest programs in college football becaise there is a single billionaire alumnus pouring money into the program with hopes of essentially buying a championship. so texas techs integrity has always been questionable. anyway, the university president put oit a statement that he doesnt care that sorseby violated regulation and that texas tech will sue any school that refuses to play them because it jeopardizes their championship prospects if they're umable to play any games.
this is all just startomg but its so juicy and delicious. the NCAA is going to crumble to dust if they cannot get this injunction overturned. schools like georgia and nebraska have plenty of money so a suit isnt necessarily a concern, but this will absolutely change college football forever. i cant stop reading about it.
update on this: texas tech is claiming that every school who has/is considering cancelling all contests is "afraid" that texas tech is better than them. what's funny about this is that sorsby's stats are average. he is not good enough for this kind of protection. many schools who have already cancelled or are considering it have much better quarterbacks than sorsby. also, texas tech's head coach had said that it's actually ok that sorsby bet against his own team because it "its not murder or assault."
the attorney general of texas has threatened to investigate the Big 12 conference if they sanction Texas Tech
the claim is now that texas texh university just cares so much about brendan sorsbys mental health that they have to sue everyone who calls this an integrity violation. any other school who wouldnt defend an athlete that committed this violation "doesnt care about mental health"
