I desperately need there to be a third component of this ritual, a response that confirms that the original intent was, in fact, tumblr-recognition.

I wear rainbow shoelaces, and on a recent field trip, a professor has told me he likes them. I could not, in good conscience, not answer that I stole them from the president. The teacher chuckled, and said "alright." How am I supposed to take that? He's probably just an ally or queer himself, but what if? What if he's one of us?
