today on the train home the guy next to me was on his phone and at one point i saw him go on tumblr and he just had like. a normie dash. like it was all photography. of nature and architecture. he was using tumblr the way a heterosexual landscaper for rich people might use instagram. i actually had to watch his screen for a few seconds to be sure it really was tumblr because i was so taken aback by the content he was viewing. this is why algorithmless websites are so beautiful btw because i genuinely didn't know that this side of tumblr even existed. he didn't even so much as scroll past any text posts.
This is like the time I saw a guy on a plane using discord in light mode to talk about golf. I was staring at this manâs phone for far too long to confirm what I was witnessing.
you get it.
reblog the money pigeon for a financially stable future

he has had like ten âfinal moviesâ and everytime i get sad about it. and then he makes another one. fucking love this guy
I was today years old when I realized "Acronym" stood for "Anyone Can Rationalize Obvious Nonsense You Moron"
I love this post, but I figure I'll use it as a change to do a PSA about this particular irritating brand of folk etymology: as a general rule, acronyms basically didn't exist at all before the 20th century, and even after that it's pretty rare for an acronym to get "de-acronymized" and become an ordinary word that people have forgotten the acronymity(?) of. I'm sure there are a couple more examples, but off the top of my head the only ones I can think of are laser (and derivatives), scuba, and radar. So in general, whenever you see a post of the form "did you know [word] is actually an acronym?", your default assumption should be that it's bullshit.
No, it isnât. This is a lie. âFuckâ is an ancient Germanic root that means, well, âto fuck,â probably from a Proto-Indo-European root meaning âto strike.â You are falling prey to the exact same bullshit 81kg is warning you about!
This is also one of those bullshit etymologies that donât make any sense if you have even minimal awareness about how the past worked. It only sounds vaguely plausible if you donât know the first thing about how sin, law, and the English or British monarchy functioned at any point in history.
I donât want to pile on the person in question, but itâs very funny that they used âfuck means âfornication under the consent of the kingââ as a counterexample, because thatâs like the central iconic example of fake backronyms, to the point where I almost put it in the tags of my post. ďżź
We NEED to make dictionaries cool again. This sort of information (correcting the misinformation of folk etymologies) is extremely easy to find, certainly for English words. Just use a reliable dictionary! The internet is full of them! There's a wiktionary, which includes etymology! Oxford paywalls the etymology but Webster's does not! There's an Online Etymology Dictionary, which should be your first choice for that sort of thing! Instead of typing a whole paragraph of half-remembered nonsense that sounded cool and is completely wrong, type ONE goddamned word and look it up.
Don't google that shit and uncritically follow the first useless, unreliable, SEO/clickbait bullshit link, go straight to the source!
Folk etymologies spreading in a world without internet, where many people simply don't have access to a good dictionary, is to be expected. But this is stupid.
"Itâs often unhealthy to hyper-analyze your sexuality to the point where how you experience it changes where you belong. This is why the idea that broader terms are somehow more restrictive is baffling. Continuously breaking labels down and creating terminology for each facet of oneâs identity shrinks communities until itâs just one person convinced that theyâre the only one who relates to their experiences. It isolates people and ignores the importance of individuality within a collective identity."
On Hyperpersonalized Sexual Identity
The author also dropped some gems in the last paragraph of the short article:

Whatâs the best editing tip you have?
Retype the whole thing.
Seriously.
Like open a fresh doc, put it side by side with the first draft, and start retyping every sentence.
At first you are writing it word for word, but eventually you start to see how clunky a paragraph is, what its missing, what would sound better, and boom. Before you know it you've got a solid 2nd draft to work from.
After that, edits get a lot easier.
(This is my experience anyway. It has helped me so much)

succession was truly a show , brave enough to ask, âwhat if we gathered some of the greatest living theater actors onto a yacht and had them call each other âcromulent fuckcrustablesâ while fighting over the fate of fox news?â i miss it every day.
it's almost almost christmas
