"Images detached from every aspect of life merge into a common stream, and the former unity of life is lost forever. Apprehended in a partial way, reality unfolds in a new generality as a pseudo-world apart, solely as an object of contemplation. The tendency toward the specialization of images-of-the-world finds its highest expression in the world of the autonomous image, where deceit deceives itself. The spectacle in its generality is a concrete inversion of life, and, as such, the autonomous movement of non-life." I thought of how Instagram lifestyle bloggers and others like them (such as fitness, models, beauty, etc) pull out aspects of their lives to put on display. What they show are depictions of character from corners of their lives, creating a narrative that is perceived by the audience to be a perfect, achievable life. These parts that are pulled out, are a false narrative to what is really going on in many of their lives. Though, what they are doing is real, what happens in their life off screen is never shown, creating two separate worlds to be lived in. As such, this is objectified by onlookers, everyone believes this outward display of perfection.
