“I just can’t believe it. Best food ever.”
“It’s alright..”
“Consider my mouth shut”
“Actually you’re still talking.” She says with a smile.
“How can you not like chicken?”
“It just isn’t that big on me.”
“Right.” Giselle nodded, remembering not seeing Nora’s face last class. She gathered two stacks of papers and slipped them into her canvas bag before leading her student out into the hallway. She made sure she had everything she needed before locking the classroom door. “Alright. Let’s go. I’ll give you extra time to research what you want your essay to be about since you weren’t here last class.”
“Thank you.” SHe smiled, as long as she was able to write on something she cared about she didn’t mind. “What exactly are we doing?”
“Oh I’m sorry. I thought I told everyone last class that we’re meeting in the library today.” The blonde said as she checked her watch for the time. “We can walk over there together if you’d like? I just need to gather some papers before I leave.”
“I left school early last class, had a doctors appointment...but the library isn’t that bad.” She said nodding. “I rather walk with you then get in trouble with the hall monitors.”
“Then I guess deal with not fitting in.”
“You’re not gonna let me say no are you?”
“You can make new friends.”
“No, to much anxiety.”
“So?”
“So parties are supposed to be fun, but what’s fun about being in a corner.”
“You should still come.”
“I wouldn’t fit in.”
“I may or may not have heard about a party.”
“I don’t party bu have fun’
Giselle tore the piece of paper she’d found on her desk and tossed it into the trash bin without another thought. Teens could be so cruel, she thought to herself. It wasn’t the first time she’d received hate mail at work but it hurt the same every time. Giselle is a SLUT the phrase burned in her head. She ran a hand through her long blonde hair and jumped at the sound of someone coming into her class. “Hello.” She managed weakly.
“Well hello there, I’m here for class....and it seems no one is here yet. Am I missing something?” She asked walking into the room, ready to speak her mind yet again.
“Okaaaay, that life’s a bit too sad for me. There’s more to life than Netflix and I would rather just have a crate full of chicken wings over pizza any day. Sorry not sorry.”
“Not a big fan of chicken, and I don’t get Netflix often, so since foster mom is out of town, no healthy food or ballet practice for me.”
“Flower shop? That’s a bit of a random ass choice but each to their own, I guess. Legit, I never do homework. Maybe in homeroom out of boredom but that’s about it. I still pass so no problem.”
“My mom owned one before she died, and it was a lot of fun.” She said with a snap and point. “No homework, just pizza and Stranger things on Netflix.”
“School is so pointless, like, why in the Lord’s name are you teaching me about algebra? That ain’t gonna help me pay bills in the future. Praise Jesus for the weekends, I’m just saying.”
“Thank you!” She said in total agreement, “I’ want to own a flower shop, why should I care about shapes and angles, and Ms. forever alone needs to stop being a prick about creative writing. Who’s to say creativity is right, so no homework is getting done this weekend.” she said smiling.
“I’m sure I don’t wanna eat right now, I might vomit”
“You need food. I swear, just nibble on something.”
“Knock it off, it’s annoying”
“You’re the one talking to me.”
“You are a smart one uh?” She fake laughed.
“I would say so, you don’t have to.”
