Fairbanks Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse 2025 (missed the bloody part)
Pending Puritan Prohibition: Pay Attention, Get Organized
It's a good time to be organized. I know the trans woman who sued the State in the 2010s and won over gender discrimination. The State Library fired her specifically for being trans and the Court said that was illegal. Dunleavey and the State didn't honor their agreement and are actively working behind the scenes to undermine and change the law and court ruling. Dunleavey is trying to make recording state officials and police illegal, so they can break the law and then you can't even record evidence. You can't record the coach pushing to look at a student athlete's genitals, the principal speaking in tongues and ranting about homosexuality at a public school expulsion meeting, the cop using racial slurs and turning off their body cam.
I think any comfortable heterosexual person who enjoys sexual liberation and thinks their pleasures will continue uninterrupted in this current climate needs to wake up. Abortion and contraception, pornography, the underlying fundamental rights of self-determination, self-expression, all have active legislation seeking to bring a Puritan Prohibition. We currently have a liberal level of freedom and many pleasure-hating conservatives are organized in their efforts to change that.
Even though these modern Puritans are unhealthy, joyless, and deeply hypocritical, it's still necessary for the pervasive majority of freedom-loving adults to actively organize regularly and stand in mutual solidarity. As Title IX is scaled back and the federal government turns a blind eye to gendered discrimination, as rural areas push to ban birth control and abortion, the same trend is visible nationally as in Alaska. A few organized radicals are seeking to silence existing consensus and substitute their extreme beliefs, in order to shift society back into matrimony and industrial proletariat.
Before Roe v. Wade was overturned, it was easier to caricature the anti-smut conservatives as blowhards and unserious. Puffed-up balloons of jealous repression, who popped at the slightest prick. Exhibitionist masochists like Fred Phelps, getting off on being hated. Not only did these conservatives lose politically for decades but they also constantly humiliated themselves personally, the constant hypocrisy and unresolved Freudian desires, the pastors abusing their flocks, the Republican congressmen caught in cruising stings in airport bathrooms. While this shameful spectacle remains widely unpopular to this day, the masochistic zealots thrived as failures and are currently organized, sufficient to leverage representative government and pass legislation. It would behoove the rest of society to organize and push back, ideally before the Victorian legislation passes. Prohibition was not particularly popular and was never universally enforced and it still took 14 years to get rid of it.
Don't trust that they'll fire all the cops, sometimes they only fire the cops that were enforcing justice and protecting the people. Power-hungry people need to oppress others, they aren't self-satisfied. Don't wait any longer, you'll boil like a frog in slow-heated water. Don't wait until you're cut out from the herd to protest. Start organizing today.
Pooping During Intermission
This essay was started back in 2022, right at the end of quarantine. I havenât seen a sustained call to remove intermission, with conscientious/scientific masking the break is actually welcome, most people across America can find their way to an unoccupied corner of the giant parking lot surrounding their mass assembly event and take a break. âIâm mask-acclimated,â a talented, intelligent personâŠ

Garden is shifting into fall. The blooms off the delphiniums. Amanita sprouting up. Rain showers. I moved some soil, leveling out the rear turf area. https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch0NHeGPyNg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Lots of beautiful motion occurring, the Siberian choke cherries are in full bloom. Rest In Peace Peggy Ferguson, still filling the Alaskaland theater even in memoriam. Iâm going to try to make it out to the Malemute Saloon more often this summer, lots of fun collabs planned with contra dance and live music community. Every time I feel close to understanding the world the white kettle on my stove sounds and I rise, attending to it with annoyance and the pleasure of the unmade cup of tea. This is what itâs like to live in March or perhaps always, an unconvincing word in any context. Blue-gold on nightâs branches what part do we take in the play? Whose turn is it to perform competence and knowledge in the absence of both? Unable to feel anything against the wind I know it is spring. Time tells me so. Never (equally as unconvincing) have I been someone with faith in order and human law. Love is unpredictable. Spring arrives regardless.
â Alex Dimitrov, âMarch,â in Love and Other Poems
The days fall out of your pockets one after the other. Soon youâll need a new jacket with tougher leather and seams no one has felt. Soon youâll bring the old books into your bed and sleep easy and alone. It must be December again. This must be the part of the story where you refuse to say how the bodies youâve walked toward continue walking in you. With heavy black boots in a calm procession of darling and honeyâ they walk up and down the narrow streets of your heart.
