Northern Makes - Virtual Lockdown Exhibition - MAY 1ST....
Hi everyone,
First, I hope everyone is well as we continue through what are unprecedented times. Like all of you, as I watch the pandemic unfold I worry about the health of my family and friends and recognise that challenging times for us all will continue for some time. So, to lighten the mood somewhat and to help support what I consider to be one of our most important local charities, I am initiating a virtual 'lockdown' exhibition.
Northern Makes will make a generous donation to East Cheshire Hospice from the proceeds.
Whilst these are testing times for many, charities are also struggling to get by and non-more important than that of East Cheshire Hospice.
The program will introduce artists and their work including some helpful tips about hanging and original art ownership that are sure to jazz the program up a little. We highly recommend watching whilst sipping a glass of something strong from the comfort of your own homes.
The event will be online and I'm currently working away to allow you to view this through Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Deliveries of paintings will follow government guidelines of course.
Details are being developed as I type this so more will follow this email in the coming days and an artist or two may be added but be sure that this will be fun and you'll see some great work of course.
Speak soon and stay well
Jason

Stunning new sculptural work in the gallery from Jane Samuel -
"My pieces reflect our journey through life, with forms inspired by the coast are made from a strong stoneware clay filled with shards of porcelain and a volatile glaze.
The form reflects the strength of the human spirit and mind which when faced with layers of adversity their strength cannot be surpassed and remains unwavering, whereas the fragility of the body and unpredictability of life itself, if visualised, are like broken and fragile shards of porcelain often hidden away under many protective layers, this is represented by the glaze. When fired, the glaze covers many of the shards, this I sand away to reveal the hidden beauty beneath."

This has just been brought into the gallery by #deanentwistle it’s a stunning watercolour still attached to the board it was painted on. We’ll leave it like this for a while since we think it looks beautiful. Off to the framers soon!. It’s 57 x 39 cms ‘stepping stones at Dovedale’ - Dean Entwistle
100 x 100 cms, ‘Kinder Scout From Grindsbrook’ original acrylic on canvas landscapes, Inspired by a recent walk in that area on a cold winters day
Jessica uses a technique called Sfumato, the technique is a fine shading meant to produce a soft transition between colours and tones, in order to achieve a more believable image. It is most often used by making subtle gradations that do not include lines or borders, from areas of light to areas of dark. Box framed
Signed, limited edition prints also available in a number of different sizes, framed or on canvas. Please contact via the website for more information.
Introducing Dean Entwistle - Dean has been researching and painting using a technique called tempera, a method of painting with pigments dispersed in an emulsion miscible with water, typically egg yolk. The method was used in Europe for fine painting, mainly on wood panels, from the 12th or early 13th century until the 15th, when it began to give way to oils. This method however has also been found in Egypt that date back to over 2000 years old. It’s a archival method of painting and cures the older it gets, meaning the painting only improves, the colour will simply intensify. There are not many artists working like this given the time it takes to learn how to manipulate it. Dean however, has chosen to use it. This is an example of one of his Tempera paintings, he is currently painting more for the gallery and we are very excited about them.
Introducing Russell Howarth, Russel Howarth was born in Oldham in 1927 and has lived in the same house since 1937. He has exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists and has had numerous one man exhibitions.
Russell paints in oils, using muted earth tones, that perfectly depict the beautiful scenes around Saddleworth, for each and every painting Russell paints he first makes a pencil drawing of that painting. His paintings record the changing environment of the moors over the last 60 years.
Russell can recognise exactly the area in which each picture was painted. Russell will be 91 soon and shows no sign of slowing.
I have had the enormous pleasure of being round at Russell's house, looking through his private collection to select for the gallery. He shared some of his wine that he had made himself, it was glorious. I felt incredibly humbled and honoured.
These are a selection of some of his pencil drawings.
Jessica Owen will be exhibiting at Stockport Art Gallery this coming April with an extremely exciting new collection. Please see the flyer for details
Another Jessica Owen painting of White Nancy hangs on a clients wall, finishing it beautifully
We’ve just recieved this picture of a painting sold from Northern Makes hanging in some very happy clients house. This David K Goodwin oil on canvas looks incredible.
