The Online Film Lab for Regional Stories started as a way to keep emerging filmmakers and artist inspired and productive during the Enhance Community Quarantine.
It is a free online film lab courses. The Film Lab focuses on lectures and discussions that will help participants in drafting their screenplays and plan their films in the near future. Mentors have been picked from the movie industry and are experts in their field. They usually share their experiences and processes in creating their films that may also spark inspiration and encouragement to the participants.
Mentors/ Speakers take advantage of the available technology to share their knowledge with the participants. We understand that not all students have stable and strong internet in their areas for the Live Lectures/ Discussion, as per approval of the speakers- handouts, lecture notes and even presentations have been made available thru our Facebook Group.
Aside from Discussions, the Online Film Lab, in partnership with mentors and donors (MetaPixel and Kase Lens Philippines) gave away one-on-one Acting Workshops (with Ryan Murcia), Premium Filmmaking Apps to Mobile Lenses for its Online Film Festival. It has also launched the Quarantimes: Short Films from the Region as a platform to exhibit films that has been made by the participants.
Online Film Lab for Regional Stories also launched Panday Pluma, which aims to help filmmakers for story development and possible collaborations with its mentors. Some of the mentors for Panday Pluma are: BJ Lingan (Head of Creatives- Star Cinema); Carla Pulido (Habi Collective); Tim Rone Villanueva (Film&TV Productions).
Concurrently- also, aside from Online Lectures/ Discussions, we have opened free Online Film Screening featuring regional and emerging filmmakers from all-over the Philippines. Also, we have also prepared an Online Roundtable Discussion that will talk about topics from artistics restrictions brought about by CoVid-19 to projecting the narratives of Philippine Cinema.
Online Film Lab for Regional Stories is organized by individual and organizational efforts in advocating cinema in the regions with the available technology accessible to the participants, mentors and organizers.
