the wildest thing about lan wangji is the way he’s immediately enraged at his own feelings for wei wuxian. because we’ve seen wei wuxian fall in love slowly and surely, right? he goes from a quick interest to an oblivious attraction to liking lan wangji then being infatuated after his return to life, then to straight-up loving the guy intensely. we watch him develop his sexual and romantic attraction equally.

but lan wangji’s different. from the very first second he’s desperately smitten — all it took was one sly smile and he was going through the four stages of love: the desire to marry, kiss, bed and die with him. and he’s so goddamn outraged, because how dare this troublemaker trespass into his house and steal his heart so easily??

he was so conflicted that he didn’t see any other alternative if not to unsheathe his sword and fight the hell out of that idiot. feelings?? for a rebellious teenager?? right in front of my clan’s three thousand rules??? not today, devil.

Fanon likes to portray Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji as being jealous of each other because they fear wei wuxian will choose one of them over the other. Which is ignoring the fact that at least in novel canon Jiang Cheng did not even fucking know wangxian ever got along let alone that lwj was in love with wwx until at the very end of the story (in cql canon he does go through a wangxian phase early on and gets very confused by their "breakup" during wwx's sunshot era) and that Lan Wangji is mostly filled with loathing towards both himself and Jiang Cheng for 'abandoning' Wei Wuxian and not being able to save him.

It also ignores the much bigger point that both Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng are actually jealous of Wen Ning. And why wouldn't they be? That is who Wei Wuxian chose in his first life. He left the Jiang, told Lan Wangji to fuck off no he is not coming to gusu with you, and spent his days with his little-brother-shaped corpse bestie on his mountain in yiling. And then when he came back he immediately called him up the second he could string together more than two notes on a flute. Wen Ning is the real competition. (And he's winning)

- not my favorite reverse harem/romance anime (it’s kinda bland?) but it has funny and cute moments

I do also have a little headcanon that LWJ didn’t talk until he was about six or so, so when he was young LXC did most of the talking for him – Wangji wants more rice, Wangji doesn’t like that noise, Wangji’s tired now, Wangji wants a rattle drum please thank you Uncle. And either Qiren or a Lan head healer interpreted this as “Wangji is being lazy and allowing Xichen to speak for him,” instead of “Wangji can’t speak,” and they told Xichen he wasn’t allowed to do this anymore to Teach Wangji How To Talk. It didn’t work, of course, and there were many small child tantrums of the “I can’t communicate now and I’m upset about it” manner and eventually they let Xichen start talking for him again (as he, and Sizhui, do in canon sometimes) but it was a Formative Memory for both of them.
