āI would be so remiss not to credit how the Lynx fanbase, the growing fanbase, all that it is now- how they've just embraced me. How I give to them and how they give to me. You know? It's why I've wanted to be here for so long. And I just think about how every time I walk into the bowl for the game, you just feel like it's family. You feel like they're all yours.ā

Natsuki Yonetani throws out Amira Hondras at first in the WPBL's inaugural game

New York Heights vs San Francisco Firebells, 08.06.2026
I actually enjoy nothingburger commentary with my baseball it feels like an adherence to genre
Not to be gay on main or anything but seeing these wpbl players makes me understand thirsty straight girls who watch the mlb more than anything else ever could
i know everyone is excited to just have a league but damn
Anyway I love watching the wpbl and it's very emotional to think about the history of women's baseball in the US
But also, I think it's important to talk about desegregating mlb as the ultimate goal for women's baseball (and really all women's sports tbh)
There's no reason why women's baseball has to be separate from men's baseball. Most of these women have been playing on men's teams their entire life. Why are they not getting signed to minor league teams? Why are none of them able to go pro like the boys they played with (and were probably better than most of the time) in high school or college? Because gender segregation in sports is discrimination. At the risk of being the friend that's too woke, the existence of women's leagues is ultimately a failure for gender equality in sports
Don't get me wrong I love watching women's sports. And I will continue to do so. But I think baseball specifically should show people how silly it is that women are actively relegated to inferior (in terms of funding, pay, facilities, coverage, officiating, training, coaching, etc. etc.) leagues because of blatant gender discrimination in a non-contact sport that is already mixed-gender at lower levels
Anyway that's just something I hope people who actually care about feminism (and Especially transfeminism) keep in mind

Live scores, schedules, and more for the professional women's sports leagues you love, all in one place
This doesnāt have a full app yet as far as I can tell but I pinned it to my home screen and itās basically the same as an app š¤·āāļø
anyone comparing quality of baseball between the wpbl and mlb or any other men's baseball without IN DETAIL discussing the level of access to literally anything (money, teams to fucking play on, support like trainers and nutritionists, time to train (how many of these players have been full time students or working jobs for years?), so much more) in women's baseball compared to random men's indy leagues that nobody has ever heard of, let alone the mlb/milb system... probably not worth listening to at all.
give the women several decades of everything the men get and then you can say whatever you want i guess
(like. they don't have the equivalent of spring training games even. they all got here a few days ago and have not had much or any time to play together as teams, even for drills but especially in actual game format. i forgot to say that before but that's huge especially re: any defense issues that may happen at the start.)
also: good stuff from the tags that i am stealing for my post:
oh my god
