HC’s:

pacifica happens to be attracted to girls as well as guys. she’d realized that a long time ago, she’s just never mentioned it or done anything about it. she internalizes those feelings hard because there is fear in letting it affect her life, being honest about it would mean being vulnerable. she also fears it could ruin the perfect image she’s cultivated all these years and would lead to upsetting her parents.

at the end of the day, it’s all about making sure her parents are proud. she craves their validation and will do anything to make them happy, even if it means sacrificing things she wants. she can’t recall if there’s ever been a time where she disobeyed them or didn’t make a big decision without consulting them first.

she practically throws away money at every inconvenience, mostly because she can but also she knows it’s the only way to get people to pay attention to her. there’s power in money, pacifica is well aware of that. she’s just not quite sure on how to make long lasting relationships that didn’t stem one way or another without it.

the weight of studying politics AND fashion is starting to take a toll but in paz’s own words, she could “handle it”. studying fashion took a bit of begging but once she was in class, she was a natural and fit right in. it was mainly her parents who convinced her to take up political science as a way to keep the northwest name in the mayoral race. if she could be honest, it would be obvious that researching government and laws were stressing her out but her parents expect her to juggle everything with poise and silence.

paz is very quick to judge others, with a simple glance she can tell if someone’s meant to be praised or mocked. she praises those that carry themselves well, dress with high end clothing, and are blessed with attractive features. anyone else, she probably won’t give the time of day to unless they put her on a pedestal (as they should).

She smiled as she looked down at her poster, feeling more proud by the moment. It was actually better than she thought it was going to turn out. Mabel wasn’t usually so inspired to do art but she was up all night working on it after getting randomly artistic after watching her favorite movie. The Last Unicorn always hit her right in the feels. She thought Dipper would love it, knowing unicorns always helped her when she needed it. “I am! I’m just glad it turned out so good!” Mabel was beaming as her gaze went to the blonde. Maybe Pacifica wasn’t all mean and could find something to be positive about. Although she was quickly proven wrong when her coffee was all over the poster before she knew it. A squeal escaped from Mabel as she quickly grabbed it as the coffee rushed off and onto the floor. “Well… Maybe it was just a rough draft… I guess…” Her voice faded off as she exhaled heavily. It had been her fault for anything she might have actually liked it.

There was something about having the ability to wear someone down that brought Pacifica joy, in all honesty she liked the influence she had on other’s whether good or bad; It just showed that she’d left her mark one way or another. The corners of her lips curled and a satisfied laugh left her lips at Mabel’s reaction, “It’s not like it’s a total loss, hon. I mean.. really, a unicorn? Do you seriously think that’s gonna help anyone?” Mabel’s fascination with everything immature and what some may perceive as ‘cute’ always seemed to set Pacifica off, it was something she couldn’t stand seeing. Mabel flaunted their quirkiness around town and somehow people enjoyed the big personality, she could never understand why. “No one’s cared about stupid things like that since pre-school, grow up already.”

“Aw, you think I have layers, how cute. So you think after this, I’m gonna start being semi-nice towards you? We have a conversation or two and you’ve melted down my icy exterior to show I’m someone with feelings and actually care deeply, that’s how our friendship is gonna start, right?” It really was amusing to her, the idea of someone wanting to get to know her. Pacifica thought it was funny that despite her still biting back, he was still trying. Maybe on her death bed, she’d tell him a secret or two but right now she had no intention of letting him get to know the person she could be. After all, she hadn’t needed his friendship before, why would she need it now? “Hon, if you try looking under the attitude, you’d just hit bone.”

“Gosh, it’s so sparkly, you must be so proud!” Her remarks went along with the sweet and fascinated tone she was used to faking for those she had to impress. Of course she wasn’t actually in awe over the glittery craftsmanship Mabel seemed to possess. It was a useless skill yet Pacifica seemed annoyed that she wasn’t able to do the same. It also seemed to strike a nerve that Mabel cared about someone so much that she’d go through so much work for them just for a sake of it, Paz couldn’t recall anyone growing up that would go to those lengths for her without being bribed to do so. There were plans to make fun of the poster regardless but now that she was starting to feel bad for herself, she’d felt justified in doing what she did next. “That unicorn is just so detailed, I need to get a better look,” As she leaned in closer to see the sign, her easily staining cup of coffee made its way onto the illustrated paper. “That’s a shame, it looked so good. At least your poster got the caffeine you so clearly need.”

“I know, it’s like no one knows what avant-garde is anymore.” Fashion week always gave Pacifica a good source of energy and inspiration. While she and the other admirers of haute couture were stuck in Animania in the midst of Paris’ fashion week, there was still a chance to find images online and remain in awe over a couple of pieces or yawn from lack of creativity. And who better to discuss all things fashion with than Animania’s resident fashion icon, Daphne Blake. “When are they finally gonna let people who actually appreciate high fashion to review these things instead of letting no one’s who sport leggings on the daily have a say in what’s trendy?”

The second the bell chimed to inform her someone had come in, Mabel looked up to greet them with a smile and a fun catchphrase she’d been working on perfecting all day. After saying welcome in or let me know if you need help finding anything enough times she got bored and wanted to switch it up instead. “Well howdy partner, this here is the-,” she started with even an accent to boot before realizing who it was that had come in and her voice slowly came to a halt. “Hi Pacifica. Uh, what’re you doing here? Can I help you find something? I know this place like the back of my hand,” Mabel said flipping her hand over to show her. It was weird to have Pacifica come here by choice but Mabel would be happy to help her if she needed it.

It was strange that Pacifica would be at the Mystery Shack by choice but, to be frank, she was bored. On no other occasion would she be caught dead in the place that harbored everything she hated but she’d exhausted a visit to every other place in Coolsville that could be used for social media. To her dismay, she was immediately approached by the Pines twin that she couldn’t shake off, at least with Dipper he’d go on about how her family were fakes and ignore her but it was different with Mabel. There was something she couldn’t quite put to words that described the frustration in this one individual. With an immediate and audible groan, she rolled her eyes at the amount of odd peppiness the other carried. “Mabel! I almost didn’t notice you, you fit right in with all the weird stuff here.” She couldn’t help but laugh at her own retort but had to stop in realization that she’d need the other’s help. “I’m here for vlog footage, for some reason people want to know what this place is and it looks like I’m one of the few that’ll actually step foot in here. So, if you could be useful for once and give me a tour, that’d be great.”

Peter looked at her, furrowing his brows while he tried to make sense of what she said. “Why else? Well…because you’re here with me right now, I might as well enjoy the moment with you.” He felt like it was a stupid question to ask. “People are people, they’re not objects. Why do I need to use you for?” He chuckled, shrugging his shoulders at her funny little theory. In Peter’s head, the key was only to be good and kind; the rest of life unfolds itself one way or another. Sure, she can be snappy and difficult, but even Peter wasn’t at all perfect. He still felt guilty after pranking Hook, but he wasn’t going to let that mistake hang over him for too long. “You’re welco—” He was about to feel better when Pacifica finally said thanks to him, only to be followed by an insult afterwards. Peter bit his lip, trying to suppress a laugh, before releasing a sigh. It did sting a bit, but at this point, he was finally getting amused by her retort. She was simply a spoiled little princess, and he could get on with that. “Once again, so sorry. I’ll try to change my name next time. What do you think of Patrick? Or better yet, Pablo?” He added, teasing her even more.

The second round of insults came, and Peter, once again, suppressed his laughter. She hated him so much for simply existing, but he was actually finding it so amusing. This was the first time a person actually came up to him who wholeheartedly hated him for who he is, and it was humbling, to say the least, that Peter Pan finally couldn’t charm nor influence someone in his favor. Pacifica was cool, despite his attacks on him. It was a challenge, and he’d love himself a challenge all the time. "I’m glad you changed your mind. I think it’s finally time that we get more information from something else.” He continued, walking alongside her to the restaurant of his choice. He was hoping she had patience to walk a bit further, since Peter was certain that this was the only place cheap enough that was good enough for her liking. “You see that man over there? Smoking his cigarette? That’s the chef. We’ll be eating there.” He said, pointing out to the restaurant.

It shocked Pacifica to hear Peter was actually wanting of her company. She wasn’t one that usually dealt with anyone doing that for her, most of those she sought to interact with usually came with some sort of advantage that she could use, whether that was on purpose or not. It was a cruel way to look at the world but that’s just how her parents taught her to assess everything, if there was anyone that could give her leverage in some way they were meant to take priority over those that were little to no help to her family. His question was one Pacifica couldn’t even think of a quick and snarky remark to, for once he actually left her without any words to say but much to think about. She shook her head, the walk to a restaurant was not the time or place to have deep thoughts on. It came as another shock that he could get her to laugh and joke a bit, “No, if you’re going to go for a new name, it’s gotta be something less boring than Peter. Try Percy or Phineas.”

Losing her main source of gossip was not an easy task, hearing the other blow off something she’d obsessed over left her annoyed on the anonymous writer’s behalf, “To be fair, gossip girl hasn’t exactly been wrong before.” It could be that she didn’t want to admit she was wrong but what was for certain was that the last thing she wanted was to be agreeing with Peter, “They know more than anyone, people say they can know more about a person than themselves. They seemed to figure your lie out faster than Wendy could.” Blaise was someone Pacifica hadn’t had seen in person before but she was able to recall every single scandal he’d been in. “He looks so...” Maybe she caught him in a bad moment but she wasn’t super impressed and didn’t quite see why he was constantly being talked about. “Well, I doubt someone who’s always on those gossip posts sleeps well at night.”

Wendy couldn’t help but laugh at Pacifica’s aspiration for a future partner, but if there was anyone who could snag an attractive CEO, it was her. She was the kind of person who would know enough CEOs to hand pick her own, too. “You’re one of the most confident people I know. Maybe the most. If I could even learn how to pick up an ounce of it, I’ll be set,” she joked, but she was genuine. It was inspiring, how certain she was of herself when Wendy couldn’t be further from that. Paz was slowly, but surely, helping her see her worth in that way, and she was grateful to have someone like her to do just that.

“Exactly! I don’t need anyone’s permission, really. I mean, I know you think his nickname is dumb, but Cubby’s actually really sweet. He wrote me this whole poem for my birthday and put it in a bouquet of flowers, and then read it aloud to me. I can’t think of anyone else who would do that.” Saying it aloud made what he’d done sound even more ridiculous, and though Wendy. had a hard time accepting the kindness, it was the kind of gesture she’d only dreamt of receiving.

“It just comes natural to me,” It was hard recalling exactly when Pacifica’s confidence had grown to the level it was now, at this point might’ve been easier to find moments where she wasn’t so presumptuous. The attitude she portrayed was constructed by her parents when she was young, always being told how one should act as a Northwest; To act as if she was better than everyone else. Eventually the charade caught on and stuck. Her eyes were fixed on her ice cream carton, “I guess, it’s just a matter of figuring out that you deserve the things you want. I don’t let anything stop me from going after what I want, why should I?” That wasn’t exactly true, her parents could stop her from doing a lot. But she could justify that as merely saving herself from disappointing them.

She liked the sound of her friend’s resolute decision and she was right, Wendy didn’t need Pacifica’s permission but she didn’t like that the rules suddenly applied to her too. It was something she could probably get over with time but for now she was willing to follow along on Wendy’s birthday. “He actually read it to you?” Her eyebrow raised, for once, impressed by a guy doing what he should be capable of doing. “See, that’s exactly the kind of behavior you should be getting.” It took a lot not to roll her eyes at even the sound of that nickname, call it an ick but it definitely wasn’t something she’d be proud to call someone. “If he can keep up with this standard he now has to live with to treat you right, then I can, maybe, get over his stupid nickname.”

Angelica liked to think forwardly about some things especially business. That was what made her get up in the morning these days. The thought of being able to watch her brand grow and potentially start putting her own designs into the store. This was going to be the year, she could feel it. That’s exactly why she was already making plans for how she was going to get there. Nothing could stop Angelica when she got like this, she wouldn’t let anyone stand in her way. “If they have any taste in real fashionable colors and people, they would.” As she continued to pin the fabric against the dress form she spoke through the ones between her teeth, “if all goes to plan I’ll be able to put more Angelica originals into the shop just like this one.” She looked back to the purple fabric before scooting back on her stool at the two-piece skirt crop set she’d created. “What if I found a super cute white jean jacket to go with it? And purple wedges? Or white?”

If there was anyone that Pacifica Northwest was completely envious of, it would be Angelica Pickles. There was a clear admiration from a young age, noticing how the other always had the perfect ensemble, attitude, and interests. It was the rare instance that Paz actually looked up to someone other than herself. She rushed over to see the work in progress, excited for the design that was practically ensured to be amazing. Just as expected, the clothing was easily something Pacifica would have in her closet, “You have such a vision for these things.” She contemplated her choices, trying to figure out the right answer to give. “I’d do white wedges but this set is way too cute to hide behind a jacket! Once it’s ready to hit the racks, I’m so get this for myself.” She wasn’t sure if this was the right time to bring up her own work but she didn’t want to miss her opportunity to propose her ideas. “If you ever need inspiration for clothing designs, I’d so offer up my fashion sketches from school. They might need a bit of work until they’re flawless but with your eye, I’m sure we could figure out how to make them perfect.”

Drizella nodded, impressed by the blonde. As always, Pacifica Northwest was a force that deserved the attention she got. Drizella understood the girl like she understood herself. Which was crazy because she wasn’t that sure of herself in the first place. “Those are really good, and I might have to try to fight you on the Pantone color because, well, my signature green is just to die for, obvi,” she was mostly joking. Mostly. “I want to become even bigger, but like maybe on my own, invent a new signature drink that becomes so popular it’s a menu item at like every bar, become the face of a high-end couture line, and like, I dunno, move far away from my family.” She never really admitted that last one out loud before, but this was Paz so she knew she could. “Sounds easy, but I do not feel like dealing with more challenges this year. I need it to be nice and easy.”

Pacifica listened in as the other listed off their plans, Drizella went for things she would’ve tried on her own if she’d thought of them first. But Pacifica wasn’t one for friendly competition so it was better that she simply wished good luck on the other’s endeavors. Even the hypothetical scenario made her competitive nature sneak through the polite laugh she put on, “Maybe we can do your green next year, I’d start campaigning if I were you.” Drizella’s wishes were very attainable as they stated, it wasn’t a bad thing just simpler than she’d anticipated. “The signature drink thing could be hard, unless you don’t mind bribing a couple of bartenders but I totally see the other things happening for you. You already have a strong presence online so it shouldn’t be too hard to build on your brand. A few collabs and maybe a scandal or two couldn’t hurt,” she was mainly teasing about the scandals, it was certain that they did garner attention but not in the safest way, not that Pacifica really cared about that anyway. The last wish was one that struck her as something she actually could relate to, her voice relaxed as she agreed, “I’m with you on moving out, I am so over Coolsville.”

The only reason Wendy even approached Pacifica in the first place was for fuel to tease Mabel with later. They had started to assume Mabel was exaggerating about how awful she was. They weren’t actually sure if Pacifica knew who they were but they could stomach talking to this conversation in the name of teasing Mabel. They could do this. So they approached Pacifica without any introduction, leading in with the only question they could think of. Wendy was already way too excited to tell Mabel about this later. “Woah dude, those are… intense. You do stuff like that often?” Wendy pauses before answering back. They hadn’t actually thought about this. “I don’t usually do resolutions. I think they’re kind of lame. But if we’re playing this game, I’d like to work on having some of my photography published. Or even just like, show it to people. I’m flexible.” They lean against the nearest wall and gaze at the party around them. “Pretty slow start to the party. Has anyone spiked the punch yet?”

Why would anyone doubt Pacifica Northwest couldn’t do whatever she wanted? That kind of remark just made her more confident that she would get to do everything she promised just out of the sheer spite to get back at them for questioning her abilities. “Yeah, it’s not like it’s hard. All I have to do is tell my mom and dad and they’ll handle everything. I could probably get everything done this week if I’m feeling up to it” Paz couldn’t hear the privilege she openly admitted to having, she knew others had it worse but in her mind it all came down to others not working as hard to get what they wanted. “Your resolution is even easier than mine! Just get an agent, if you’re talented enough then everything should work itself out.” If she wasn’t already frustrated with the other’s simple goal, their question that really felt more like an invitation depending on the answer annoyed her as well. “Why would anyone want to do that? That’s so immature.”

It had been quite sometime since Hans had even thought of Pacifica. She was a brat and Hans knew it would be like listening to a broken record talking to her, but he was in the business of, well, doing business. Her parents could be key to that. They would be great people to make allies out of for anything in the future. Tonight though, Hans was mostly focused on trying to enjoy himself. He still put up his everyday façade to hide any deceit. “Wow, wouldn’t that be something,” Hans said. “You could really get somewhere. Social media is crazy these days and people love getting sucked into it. You’d be adored by even more people.” He offers her a friendly smile. “I don’t really know. I suppose advance in my career a bit more. We’ll see how that all pans out, but something a little more would be nice is all.” He shrugged and took a sip of his champagne. “Other than wanting all that though, how have you been? It’s just been so long since I’ve seen you.”

“That’s exactly what I keep trying to tell my parents, social media is where I should be putting more time and energy, but they insist on me studying politics instead. Could you imagine me in politics?” She rolled her eyes at their plans for her, setting her up for some sort of political legacy for the Northwests and uncaring of her wish to do other things. It was funny the way Hans seemed to be exactly the type of person her parents expected her to be and be with. Someone in power, wealthy, and handsome seemed to meet her own criteria as well, however, it was hard to see the chances of that happening with his engagement. “I’m sure you’ll get your wishes. If Hans Westergaard has his eyes on it, then it’s bound to be his, right?” She could recognize that the two shared a tenacious spirit, even if he was more reserved about it; Any good politician needed one. “I’ve been good this year, which is just a nice way of saying bored. Has anything exciting happened to you?” Pacifica knew the most obvious answer he could give but wished to ignore it.

Wendy knew this was Pacifica’s way of trying to be empathetic, and it made her smile a bit. She knew that Peter was definitely not Paz’s type, not by any means, but it didn’t mean that she couldn’t go for him. The blonde could’ve gone for anyone she wanted and gotten them without much of a struggle. Wendy’s brow quirked a bit at the use of anyone, thinking that maybe there was something hidden behind the meaning of it, but she didn’t want to press anything. Paz would tell her when she was ready if it meant something more, and for now, maybe that was all she was prepared to share. “Well, anyone would be lucky to be on the receiving end of a Pacifica Northwest crush.” With a small laugh, she knew that her friend was right, but Wendy was never the type of girl to go after a guy aggressively at all. “I don’t know, I think … maybe I should give Colin a chance. I know it might upset Peter, but I–I don’t think he really has a right to be upset. Maybe it’s time to let go of that hope that I’ve been holding out for him.”

Pacifica cringed at the word ‘crush’, she really didn’t believe in those, or had gotten to know anyone well enough to form one. In her mind, crushes just weren’t her thing. Same thing with love, it really just sounded like some fable for people to believe in but never truly happen to anyone. Probably a result of seeing her parents’ cold marriage but it wasn’t something she ever put her mind to think that was the reason why she held the grudge. “No one around is worthy of being liked by me, all the good ones are taken anyway so there’s not much point in looking. With any luck, the magic barrier will end up sucking in some young, hot CEO but until then, I’ll remain bored.”

She felt a tinge of pride towards Wendy’s realization, “You’re finally starting to get it!” While she didn’t approve of her choice, at least her friend was taking some sort of an initiative. “Exactly he doesn’t have a right to be upset, don’t let him meddle while you’re making your choice. It’s not like you need his permission to date who you want.”

“It’s on me, don’t worry.” Peter chuckled, placing his hand on his stomach as the idea of her actually thinking he’d put the bill in her was hilarious. She was blunt and too upfront—maybe a little too much so that it made Peter laugh hard. It was rare to find the kind of girl who spoke her mind with ease, taking space as if she truly owned the room. Peter was used to being the boss, the kind of jungle where he always stood. They listened to him, and he listened to the group. With Pacifica, everything was simply about her, which made Peter curious to a degree. What’s it about her that she actually stood her ground with someone like him? He had to admit that she piqued his interest.

“Intel? What do you think of me, a spy or something of the sort?” He continued to laugh, shaking his head as he kept walking beside her. She was a walking minefield, unsure what next words would blow her off. Nonetheless, he tiptoed around her with ease and precision. It was a challenge, and Peter wasn’t one to back down. “I just wanted to say sorry for the gossip blog. It’s funny, don’t you think? We talked for a time, and now we’re a thing. These rumors are incredibly scattered and hurtful. Do you have any idea who it might be?”

Pacifica wasn’t sure why he was laughing so much, she wasn’t making a joke and it didn’t sound like he was either. The last thing she needed was someone like Peter laughing at her, not that he was but she wasn’t secure enough in herself to know the difference. “Is it that absurd to believe you’re a spy? Why else would endure a conversation with me when you know I couldn’t possible be of any use to you?” It was good that he was saying sorry, in Pacifica’s mind, he was at fault for these kinds of rumors being talked about. Before he had approached her in the first place, her social circle was top-notch and now she was seen conversing with someone who probably couldn’t afford the high-end socks she had on. “Thanks to you, I have to do something drastic just to make sure my name isn’t associated with yours.” 

In a frustrated breath, she continued, “If I had any clue to who it could be, do you think that rumor about us would’ve been out there in the first place? Sadly, even my money couldn’t save that from happening.” It wasn’t far-fetched to believe she’d have some knowledge on who was behind the account, Paz herself was one who liked to gossip often and shit talk whoever even to their face but, unfortunately, she was in the dark along with everyone else. “I did like them before this post, thought they were credible too but now I guess they’ll write whatever they feel like.”

“My resolutions?” Pausing her mindless scrolling, the question asked something that Pacifica hadn’t considered yet. She didn’t bother making promises for the new year because she was very confident (and privileged) she’d make them happen: If she wanted to try horseback riding, her parents would get her a horse the very next day and with the Northwest driving spirit, she’d make it into and win an equestrian championship. By a simple wanting and wishing, she’d bring on challenge that wasn’t so much as a challenge but rather a chore on her to-do list for the day and move onto whatever came next. Since she craved a conversation at all rather than viewing yet another meaningless post on social media, she’d entertained the idea of a resolution. “I guess I could make Pantone change their color of the year to my signature purple, get a feature in a magazine, and finally perfect the optimal posting time for maximum likes and views. What about you?”
