NO! NOT THE CAT!
@joehillsthrills Damnit! Did you really have to kill the cat? 😭 🐈
Over This World.
I’m so over people this morning. My heart is heavy at how we dismiss other people’s humanity and tear each other to shreds. My stomach was literally turned by two posts I read earlier. My soul aches and I’m tired of this world. I’m going to turn off for a while and read my book. I doubt the world will be better when I’ve finished, but at least I’ll find a few hours of peace. Why can't we just love people and leave them alone to walk their own paths?
@joehillsthrills Oh my gosh! I just realized that it's 2:30 AM. I can't put it down, and I'm too old to stay up all night reading. #joehill #thefireman #upallnight #books #goodread
Less REaction More Action
I posted this response to a friend who, like most, is being reactionary to what happened yesterday instead of being logical. And let's be frank, many people have little to no experience with guns and are simply afraid of the idea of a gun, so they believe nobody should own one: Most of us who own assault rifles don't go on killing sprees. My husband, James, is a hunter and prefers an assault rifle. It's the only thing powerful enough to take down certain game, and it makes for a cleaner kill than a shotgun. Additionally, I could take two 9 mms with 10 round magazines, hide them in my pockets along with a bunch of extra mags and do a lot more damage than an assault rifle, and it has been done. For close range shooting, a hand gun is much more deadly and a hell of a lot more accurate. The real problem is not the guns. The real problem is that there is not enough regulation and oversight and NO interdepartmental communication. Mateen had been investigated by the FBI. There was no way he should legally have owned any kind of weapon. Furthermore, do you think that taking away someone's legal right to own a firearm will stop people from killing? I could drive right down Crestline Road, a few thousand feet from my front door, right now and if I knew who to ask for I could get my hands on probably any kind of gun I wanted. No muss. No fuss. No law enforcement. No paperwork required. Let's push for common sense regulation and then do everything in our power to see that it is enforced instead of a knee-jerk blanket approach that takes guns out of the hands of responsible citizens. #guncontrol #guns #Orlando #gunlaws #reactionary #kneejerk #wrongapproach

Many advice on getting closer to God????
Many advice. Here we go:
1) Pray. Talk to God all the time.
2) Scripture. Read it. Memorize it. Do it.
3) Love. Cultivate a love for God and a love for what He loves.
4) Fasting. Stop eating for short periods of time so you can rely on God.
5) Faithful. Don’t neglect reaching out to God every day.
6) Sober. Be serious and watchful. Don’t get tricked by the deceiver.
7) Counsel. Ask other people how they got closer to God.
8) Church. Get in a local church and be faithful.
9) Worship. Bless the Lord with your voice and with your life.
10) Obey. Whatever God says, do it.
11) Repent. Stop all of the sin and do things God’s way.
12) Baptised. Get baptised in obedience with Jesus’ command.
13) Confess. Tell your sins to other people so that you can be healed.
14) Forgive. Forgive everybody who has ever wronged you.
15) Tithe. Give to your church body. Support your pastors.
16) Witness. Don’t shut up about Jesus.
17) Respect. Esteem other people as more important than yourself.
18) Sacrifice. Give of yourself to help those in need.
19) Transformed. Don’t be like the world. Become like Jesus.
20) Religion. Help widows and orphans. Stay unstained from the world.
I can't say I completely agree with all of it but it's great advice. Some of it is oversimplified, but good otherwise.

Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach. Any small, calm thing that one soul can do to help another soul, to assist some portion of this poor suffering world, will help immensely

He did not struggle alone
I just want to take a moment to remind everyone of something: There is no doubt that Martin Luther King Jr was a great man, but he did not fight the Civil Rights battle alone. While we are memorializing him today, let's stop and remember all of the others who fought before, during and after his time. The ones we know like Harriet Tubman, and Sojourner Truth, Medgar Evers and Rosa Parks and all of the nameless, countless others who may have helped hide a runaway slave, or sat silently, peacefully and unmoved at a lunch counter or a protest while unspeakable insults and objects were hurled at them, the ones who went missing never to be heard from again because they dared to speak out. I think that to forget them would be to dishonor MLK's memory.

Oct. 28, 1914: British soldiers lined up in a narrow trench during World War I. (Hulton Archive/Getty Images)
Today’s top book news item:
The British National Archives is digitizing the official diaries kept by army military units during World War I. A press release states that “this first batch of unit war diaries reveals the real-time account of the first three cavalry and the first seven infantry divisions who were part of the first wave of British army troops deployed in France and Flanders.”
The BBC quotes the personal diary of the First Battalion’s Capt. James Paterson, who wrote,
"Trenches, bits of equipment, clothing (probably blood-stained), ammunition, tools, caps, etc, etc, everywhere. Poor fellows shot dead are lying in all directions. Some of ours. Everywhere the same hard, grim, pitiless sign of battle and war. I have had a belly full of it."
U.K. Culture Secretary Maria Miller said in the press release that the project “will allow us to hear the voices of those that sacrificed their lives and is even more poignant now there are no living veterans who can speak directly about the events of the war.”
"The pain of war cannot exceed the woe of aftermath." - Led Zepplin
