the silence she allowed between the two of them was thick, it could be cut with a knife as they were alone together on her porch. “ ——— I THINK i wanna be a better person.” she looks down at the burning cigarette between her index and middle finger; she brings it up to her lips.

“maybe get out of the city.”

“throw my phone in the river. move to philly or something.”

sarah watched her movements closely. the cigarette smoke was billowing into her lungs and choking her up a bit. then again, maybe it was the sentimentality of the night that was doing it, she wasn’t sure.

she took a moment to focus on her next words. they seemed important.

“...i think you’re a good person already.” she assumed. to be honest, the two of them didn’t really know each other all too well. “but if you really wanna go-- i’ll go with you.”
