Mermay 2020Â (part 2)Â by Faith Schaffer
I have seen several beginners saying that they understand and agree with the fact that witchcraft paths should not be learned solely via tiktok, youtube, or social media BUT that they find the statement frustrating when those of us more experienced in these areas don't have alternatives to recommend. Which is completely understandable.
So to do my part, I put together a list of great books that have helped me in my path. I'm also including books I haven't read yet but are going to or ones I won't be reading but have in stock in my store's library to cover other areas of the Craft that may not be in my interest and those will be marked with an astrix. These are all very several areas and types of witchcraft.
Note: I am not wiccan nor do I practice ceremonial or kabbalistic magick and am this unable to provide much suggestion save a couple books on these areas.
Note 2: I have learned much of my Craft also from books that are extremely old. There are some that I have that are first editions from the 17 or 1800s that were very expensive. I recommend visiting libraries to try and find these if you aren't able to afford them. You can also sometimes find PDFs of these titles too if you try googling them.
Note 3: the best tip for choosing books is go with the earliest editions and oldest copies you can find. Then work your way up and compare how they have changed over time and see if you perhaps resonate more with the older concepts over new ones. This seems to be the case with me quite often.
Note 4: stay away from authors Silver Ravenwolf and Scott Cunningham. I plan on making a specific post about why soon, but the general gist is that it is watered down witchcraft and not good information. This is however my own opinion so you are of course able to go that route if you so choose.
List:
1. Nightside of the Runes-Thomas Karlsson, PHD
2. The Chaldean Oracles-Thomas Taylor (there are several options for translations though)
3. The hanged God-Shanu Oates
4. Wolfs-head- Shani Oates
5. Atlantis the Antideluvian world (1882) -Ignaceous Donnelly
6. Norse Mythology (1879)- RB Anderson
7. A System of Magic (1840)- Daniel De Foe
8. Ars Philtrom- Daniel A Schulke
9. Apocalyptic Witchcraft- Peter Grey*
10. Treading the Mill-Nigel Pearson
11. Traditional Witchcraft, A Cornish Book Of Ways-Gemma Gary
12. The Picatrix
13. The Poetic Edda's (read more than one translation)
14. Mother Russia-Joanna Hubbs
15. Russian Black Magic- Natasha Hglvin
16. The Greek Magical Papyri
17. Psychic Self Defense-Dion Fortune*
18. A History of Witchcraft-Jefferey B Russell
19. Hecate's Fountain-Kenneth Grant
20. The Essential Enochian Grimoire-Aaron Leitch*
21. Fierce Feminine Divinities of Eurasia and Latin America- Malgorzata Oleszkiewicz-Peralba
22. The Gods and Goddesses of Europe-Marija Gimbutus*
23. Drawing Down the Spirits-Kenaz Filan and Raven Kaldera
24. Magick in Theory and in Practice-Aleister Crowley
24. Pharmako Dynamis, Pharmako Poeia, and Pharmako Gnosis all by Dale Pendell
25. The Magi
26. Backwoods Witchcraft- Jake Richards
27. The Veneficium- David Schulke
There are loads more but are currently in my out building on my land where I have no electricity and it's snowing so I can send more if anyone is searching for something in a specific genre or anything in a specific type of magick or practice. Just send me a message and I'm happy to oblige.
Read with discernment and intuition. Continue to study in areas that excite you in your soul as you read and let go of those that don't. Let your research steer you in the direction it's meant to and trust yourself and the pull of your ancestors.
Lastly, read the lore and folk tales of your area and it will lead you to several cultural practices that stem from those tales, most of which are leftover pagan and folk Magick practices that have lasted through the test of time.

HAPPY SOLSTICE MOTHERFUCKERS
I have a number of symbols and sigils drawn on to my windows with Sea water which has dried and left a salt trail but whenever the humidity gets high, the salt absorbs the moisture from the air and the symbols and sigils show up with water droplets around and dripping down from them. This is most prominent when humidity is over 90% and unsurprisingly, during rainy days. Salt is hygroscopic, but a part of me likes to think the symbols and sigils are being charged with the moisture brought on by the rolling storms containing coastal water from the Sea.
I really really want to do something for the full moon, but I live with family who wouldnt approve of it(and also I am broke) I do not have anything To do any sort of spell, but also I donât even know what I want to do I have so many things I want to come to fruition, things to change, and some things that Iâm just wishing for at this point that Iâm just very lost on what to do and how to do it w/o the tools I might need and I wondered if you have any advice?
Iâm sorry youâre stuck in that situation. I spent my first few years as a witch that way, and it was very discouraging. Iâm actually planning a full-length episode of Hex Positive for January that will have lots of tips for witches who canât practice their craft openly.
For the time being, thereâs a very simple ritual you can do for this monthâs full moon (or any full moon) to make wishes or manifest your desires, or whatever else you might want to do.
All you need is a clear glass of water and a view of the sky.
Find a place where you can see the sky and the full moon. Sit with your glass of water and think about what you want, what you wish for, what youâd like to change in your life. Hold these things firmly in your mind. Make a written list if you want.Â
Hold up the glass of water in both hands and line it up until you can see the moon through it. Hold it there for a little while, focusing on your desires and willing them to come true. Pour your energy through your hands into the glass of water and visualize it mixing with the moonlight.
When the moment feels right, bring the glass to your lips and drink. Visualize the manifestation of those wishes and the power brought by the moon flowing into you, making you stronger, and bringing the things you wished for into your life.
This is a very simple way to make moonwater and a drinkable wishing potion when you have nothing else to work with. It can be done with other beverages as well, so long as you can see light through the container and the liquid inside. If you want to do some covert herb magic, you can use your favorite tea, since many commercially-available tea blends contain herbs that are good for attraction, luck, prosperity, and so forth.
Hope this helps! And Happy Samhain!

The Snwitchâs Gender Clarity Spell
Hi everyone! This spell was recently requested by a nice little anon who asked for a spell to help witches who are questioning, investigating, confused about, or exploring their gender identity. I think that itâs perfectly normal and healthy to investigate your gender identity, and I wanted to make this spell primarily self-reflective. This spell is meant to be used as an aid to a personal âmeditationâ on your own identity. Use with care :) Enjoy!
What youâll need:
A clear or white bowl
Clean water
A small pinch of salt
Optional: A few fresh mint leaves
What you do:
Gather your ingredients.
Pour the water into the bowl and add the pinch of salt. As you add the salt, say:Â âSalt, cleanse this water of all impurities. Cast out excess energy, and banish negativity.â
Add the mint leaves to the water. Let them float along the surface. Notice the way that the green of the leaves stand out against the clear, still water. Inhale the clarifying smell. Take a minute to become fully relaxed and present.
Stare gently into the water. Allow your gaze to be soft, not strained. You donât need to focus on any one point in the water. Just softly gaze into the water.
Say:
âWater perfect, water clean,
Pure of color, soft of sheen,
Clarify what is unknown,
And lend your contemplative tone.
As I ponder things that are or should,
Let my gender be understood.â
Gaze into the water, and let your mind wander. Think about how you feel about your genderâ the parts of you that are or arenât feminine, the parts that are or arenât masculine, the parts that are both or not quite either. Spend some quiet time thinking about your identity, using the water as a focus point. Itâs perfectly normal if your mind wanders to other things.
After some time, you will either feel that things are more clear for you know, or you will feel that it is time for the contemplation to end. If things still donât feel quite clear for you, sleep on it and try the spell again later.
Thanks for reading! If you have any questions, feel free to send me an ask. I hope you enjoyed,

DIY Magical Shower Disks
So you have seen our lovely bath magic spells but you cannot take a bath. Maybe you donât have a bath in your current residence, maybe you are physically unable to use bathtubs, maybe youâre just super stretched for time but want to get in some extra magical umph. Recreational Witchcraft is here for you.Â
Shower disks are traditionally used in the aromatherapy world to relieve congestion and other flu-symptoms while showering via the use of essential oils, but we will be bumping up their magical potential.
Basic recipe:
1 cup baking sodaÂ
1 tablespoon corn starch
1/3 cup of water
Muffin tins and muffin liners
Combine baking soda and corn starch (making sure there are no clumps), then slowly add in the water. Fill lined muffin tins about third of the way, then leave out for 24 hours to dry completely. Carefully take them out of the liners, add your essential oils, and place your disk somewhere in your shower that will allow them to dissolve slowly while you do your business. Bam. Youâre done.Â
Now onto the magic. All dry ingredients (herbs, spices, etc) should be added in with the baking soda and corn starch before the water is added. All essential oils should be added right before theyâre used (so when theyâre completely dry).
Cleansing and Purifying:
essential oil of rosemary
essential oil of lemongrass
dried peppermint leaves
dried lemon rinds
dried rosemary
Protection:
essential oil of lavender
essential oil of eucalyptus
dried basil leaves
dried lavender flowers
pinch of ground cloves
Glamour:
essential oil of sweet orange
essential oil of rose
essential oil of jasmine
crushed red rose petals
pinch of (body safe) glitter
Attracting Love:
vanilla extract
essential oil of jasmine
essential oil of ylang ylang
apple seeds
1 lavender flower
pinch of cinnamon
Attracting Money:
essential oil of patchouli
essential oil of juniper berry
dried mint leaves
dried thyme
pinch of allspice
Might also be worth putting this in an old pantyhose and tying it off when you shower, otherwise those plant components might slide down and wreak havoc on your pipes down the line.
Very excited to give this a try; Iâve been stuck with only a shower for a year now and this is just what I needed.
What Native people say about the use of sage: you can use sage, but you cannot smudge as nothing you are doing (waving sage around) is actually smudging. Smudging is a ceremony and you are, we promise, not smudging. Please buy sage from either us, or someone who sources the sage from us. White sage may not be considered endangered by the US government but corperate sourcing is making it difficult for us to source sage for our own religious purposes. Let alone to sell it.
What white people hear: never use sage ever, donât ever buy it, donât own it, donât even look at it.
Look, yâall. Thereâs a couple of facets to my talk today.
1) Yes! You can buy sage! You really, truly can! Buy it from either native sellers (go to a powwow! Eat our food, buy our stuff, watch some dancing!) Or buy it from a seller who sources the sage from native people. Pick one. And no, buying it from 5 Below doesnât count.
2) you CANNOT smudge. This isnât just you âshouldnâtââ this is a YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF SMUDGING. Waving a sage stick around your doorways IS NOT SMUDGING. It is smoke clensing. Smudging, depending on the tradition and tribe, could easily have dancing and drums involved. You, as a white person, do not have the cultural BACKGROUND to even know how it works. At all. Period.
3) please, for FUCKS SAKE, stop making posts here on tumblr where you tell other white people about cultural appropriation and what they can and cannot do. Please stop, your license has been revoked because none of you bother to get the facts right. We native people are FULLY CAPABLE OF DOING IT OURSELVES. Consider instead: a) reblogging our posts where we talk about it! Weâre here! We have made posts!! b) Making a post that states what we said and then LINKS BACK TO US. Screenshot with a link if you must. Stop centering your own voices in these conversations. You are already centered in everything, stop centering yourselves in a native space.
Iâm tired of this nonsense, yâall.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk âą
Low energy cleaning + cleansing
I make a lot of posts for bedridden witches, but many of us arenât bedridden all of the time or have varying energy levels. This post contains a range of ideas and suggestions for keeping your home both clean and cleansed with low or unpredictable energy. While I do refer to energy levels, it is also applicable to pain levels.Â
Setting yourself up for success:
Quick note: these are things I do, you may not find the same things to be overwhelming or necessary, as discussed later in the post!Â
Multiple waste baskets. I keep two under my bed, for garbage and recycling. This makes it easier to throw things away when done with them, rather than letting them become an overwhelming pile.
A box or tray for used dishes, cups and water bottles. This keeps the piles from feeling overwhelming, and makes them easier to move to the kitchen when thatâs do-able.Â
Extra blanket to protect the bedding. Itâs easier for to move/wash one blanket when food spills, rather than wrangling with a comforter.Â
Fitted vs. flat sheets. Fitted sheets are exhausting to remove/put on. Flat sheets can be easier! (Also, I recommend having two sets of sheets, so you can switch them out right away and have clean bedding whether or not you have the energy to do laundry.)
Clean and dirty laundry hampers. A way to avoid piles and stay organized without needing to fold laundry or put it on hangers. Simply have a hamper for each (or lots of baskets if you want it more organized).
Cleaning supplies in each room/area. That way, when the motivation to clean arises, you donât need to spend that energy walking across the house to get the supplies.
Bedridden witch: The setup
Focus on the main areas:
My bedroom is my number one focus, as this is the room I spend the most time in. The others are my bathroom, living room and kitchen. Thereâs no point in having a spotless spare room if youâre overwhelmed by the rest of the house. Prioritize the places you spend your time in.
Do what you can, when you can:
The excellent thing about having a good setup is it means when you do have more energy, you donât need to do as much to catch up (which often involves paying for it later by overdoing it). You know your limits, do what you can.Â
Have no energy? Do your best to do the things I listed above. With this setup its okay if you canât do it right away, when you feel able to, its there. Maybe today you can get the tissues in the waste basket and tomorrow you put the dishes in the box. Â
Have a bit of energy? Empty your waste baskets, bring the dishes to the kitchen, move your dirty laundry into the washroom, etc. One step closer to helping your future self.
Have a lot of energy? Now is an excellent time to do some dishes or get some laundry started. Hopefully this is now manageable because of the steps your past self took.Â
Along these lines, you donât have to do everything at once. Because I have cleaning supplies in each area, I can clean whenever I feel like it.Â
Perhaps I feel really motivated to scrub the toilet. That doesnât mean that I also have to wipe down the counter and the tub, shake out the mats and sweep the floor. Each of those things can be separate. Cleaning something partially is better than not cleaning at all (or overdoing it) in my opinion.
Take breaks! Itâs okay if things take you longer than that rude inner voice says it should, or if you need to take multiple breaks.Â
Create a routine:
Hereâs a glimpse at my daily routine (which is the ideal; when my health doesnât allow for all of these, I do what I can):
Bedroom: Open the curtains and the window to let light and fresh air in. This also lets my bedding air out. After a few minutes I do a quick sweep of the floor and make my bed (which I can do while sitting on it).
Bathroom: Every few days Iâll sweep it and empty the trash + laundry hamper.
Kitchen: Sweep the floors each morning. Empty the dishwasher or load any new dirty dishes into it. Also feed the cats and check their water.
Living room: Whenever I get up to go to the kitchen, I bring any dishes or garbage. Each evening I tidy up and put things back.
I almost seem obsessive over cleanliness because I constantly do little things. Done using the kitchen counter? Wipe it down. Dirty plate? Rinse it and load in the dishwasher. My energy is very unpredictable so I do little things whenever I can so that when I crash, everything is taken care of.
Prioritize:
Sometimes the ideal and the practical arenât compatible.Â
What MUST happen? For example, my cats come first. They have no control over their food, water or litter boxes. I ensure all of their needs are met early in my day.Â
What will have negative long term effects? Shit happens, and it doesnât always line up with our ability to handle it. Sometimes you must clean up a water leak or remove the gross thing, even if you pay for it with a flareup later or it results in other things not getting taken care of for a while.
Ask for help. I understand that not everyone is lucky enough to have a support system, but if you can, ask a friend or family member for help when you need it. Sometimes things get to overwhelming, and a little help can go a long way.Â
Make a list:
Figure out what key things make the space feel clean or dirty to you. What would you like to maintain? What feels more manageable when you do it each day? What are you going to prioritize?Â
Figure out the ideal frequency of each task. Iâve given examples of my daily routine, but what about the bigger tasks such as changing your bedding, or vacuuming the carpet? What about dusting and getting the cobwebs in those hard-to-reach corners? How often would you like to do those? Having a list can be helpful for your higher energy days so you know what to focus on.Â
Cleansing:
For me, a lot of my cleansing ties into physically cleaning + having a clean space. This can be a bit tricky when you donât have the energy to keep an entirely clean home, which is why I focused so much on that side of things! Do the best you can and prioritize the places you spend time in.Â
A few basic methods:
Bedridden witch: Stale energy edition (lots of small tips for cleansing and changing the energy in a space).Â
Smoke cleansing. Can be done with a variety of plants.
Steam cleansing. An excellent alternative if smoke isnât your thing, boil the plants instead and allow the steam to act the same way smoke would.
Cleansing spray. Similar to steam. Be aware that some plants may stain surfaces, and avoid using undiluted essential oils. You can also buy natural room sprays if making one feels unmanageable.Â
Sound cleansing. This is often done with instruments, but can also be done with song.
Visualization.
Elements. Open your curtains and windows, let the wind, the rain, the sunshine, the full moon, etc. do its work.
Absorbing. Sometimes we canât open a window or actively cleanse, this is when having things that absorb negative energy can help, such as a Himalayan salt lamp, a bowl of salt, etc.Â

Basics of Energy Work - Part One
Expanding Awareness Energy work is a subtle art, a foundational building block to successful magic. Almost all magical practices involve some form of energy work - and there are countless forms - but how it will function from individual to individual will differ greatly. To put it simply, energy work is the practice of manipulating unseen energies. Everything - people, places, animals, inanimate objects, even our thoughts - vibrates at a specific energetic frequency and emits energy. By learning how to identify and tune into these energies, we can use them to direct our magic and spell work. Chances are, you have worked your own personal energy before. More often than not, your own energy will be the easiest for you to tap into. To do this, we need to learn how to expand our awareness. Meditation Meditation is a good practice to have when pursuing any kind of magical endeavor; there are many ways to meditate and there is much to achieve through it. The overall key to meditation is, generally, focus. You are training your mind to simply observe with non judgement; not to simply clear your mind of any thought at all, which is the common misconception. There is not just one way to meditate - if sitting cross legged in a room bathed with incense as you engage breathing exercises works for you, great! Some people meditate through dance, yoga, exercise, crafts, etc. Anything where your mind can drift, âtune outâ so to speak, as your body instinctively goes through the motions. There are also several forms of guided meditations that you can use for specific goals, such as attentiveness, visualization, improving memory, empowerment, etc. Elemental meditation is popular among the witchcraft community. Whatâs great about guided meditation is it extremely accessible through apps and things like youtube (favorites of mine are the fire meditation and the water meditation from magickians!) and makes the whole process of learning to meditate a lot less intimidating. As meditation relates to energy work, it will sharpen your ability for visualization, increase your focus, have you more in touch with your physical and inner self as both the same and separate entities, and increase your awareness of changes in and around you - all of this working towards an enhanced ability to sense energy and its movement. What is this mystical âenergy?â If youâre having trouble wrapping your head around the idea of the elusive and all encompassing vaguery of âenergyâ, donât worry. The idea may seem intimidating, but they are not inaccessible. If you are struggling, it only indicates that you are human. This will take practice and it will require you to understand the concepts on a physical level. Luckily, these are steps that nearly every magical practitioner, old and new, has and will continue to work on for the rest of their spiritual journey. Every question you have has likely already been answered. Some may just take a bit of research to find! However, Iâm going to try and provide at least some cursory information here. To get a real idea of what âenergyâ feels like, set aside some quiet time for youself. Close the door, dim the lights, turn off your phone. Light your candles and make sure you will be left alone. Sit down on the floor and make yourself comfortable - not too comfortable! You donât want to fall asleep. Draw in some deep breaths and clear your mind, as you did in your meditation. Continue until you feel your breathing regulated and yourself relaxed. Now, close your eyes and rub your palms together, like youâre trying to warm them up, then pull them an inch or two apart. You should feel a charged sensation tingling between your hands, maybe even like a ball, vibrating and pulsating in your hands. If you concentrate, you may even be able to feel a sort of magnetic resistance if you attempt to push it back together. Thatâs energy. Itâs really that simple. If you donât feel it at first, just try again. The more you do this, the easier it will become to identify your own and different types of energy all around you through a technique called centering, which will be discussed below. Grounding The term grounding, sometimes called Earthing, means to recalibrate your energy. Essentially, the purpose of grounding is to shake off âexcessâ energy and ground yourself back in reality, into the rhythm of the plane on which we exist. And while grounding does restore balance and connectedness, there are greater implications to explore when it comes to grounding. Everything on this earth is shaped by forces and presence of the Earth and cosmos, and as such, âthis connection is deeply inherent to a sustainable state of well being. The Earth, as an organic and inorganic system, is constantly bathing all life on the planet with its highly ordered and coherent electromagnetic field. The natural tendency of an organism is to couple with the Earthâs energy field and come to a mutual state of cooperation and harmony within its environment, finding its niche and proper place within a system. What we need to understand is that all systems strive to achieve, return to and/or maintain a state of coherence. Whether one is aware of it or not, we are always taking part in a constant process within our universe, coupling with other energy fields and finding some sort of balance within this space. This happens everywhere within the context of an ecosystem, whenever two forces interact for any reason. The more organized or coherent these fields are, the more effectively and efficiently energy can be [manipulated.]â Grounding allows us to cultivate a relationship with the earth and facilitate a healthier, more coherent state of being. It allows us to align our energy for more accurate working. Like meditation, there are many ways to ground; a list of some of my personal favorite methods can be found (here.) Shielding and Centering Shielding is important for magical workings as it provides a protective barrier to maintain our center. To do this, youâll want to get a feel for your personal energy first. A good way to do is something called centering. Throughout the day, you naturally will pick up on all kinds of external energy; some good, some bad, most of it probably neither of the two - either way, it is energy that is not yours. Meditation and shadow work will be useful in identifying what feels distinctly you, but you should be able to know when youâre not feeling entirely you. If youâve been feeling particularly out of sorts, a good tip to get back in touch with yourself before centering or shielding is to spend some time in self care. Turn off your phone and go to your room or a friendly space in nature, a library, a favorite haunt and engage in a creative project, put on your favorite music, eat your favorite food. Be mindful of your physical space, your body, sensations your are experiencing. Be attentive to you and only you; your wants, needs, feelings, comforts, etc. Take a bath and allow yourself to relax. Your only responsibility right now is you have no responsibilities - if even for just a short while. Just do what you can to access some âme timeâ to do something you love to do and observe yourself. Take note of what you choose to do that brings you joy, why those things make you feel happy and fulfilled, how exactly these feelings and activities resonate with you. Record this in your Book of Shadows, as it is useful information to getting to yourself on a more intimate level. Learn to recognize this energy and get familiar with what it means to feel yourself. It can be easy to get lost. Centering can get you back, especially when you make these feelings more accessible to yourself. To center, weâre going to go back to the exercise in the beginning; in a quiet place, meditate and rub your palms together - build up that energy between them again. When you pull your hands apart, you want to visualize this sensation. What color is it? What does it feel like? Is it light? Heavy? Is it vibrating? Focus on the pulsation and how it pushes against you. Allow it to move and grow. Picture it contracting and growing until you no longer can. Pull it in close to you, somewhere you can focus on it - many people use their solar plexus or heart chakras. This is the same energy youâre going to use to shield yourself. Instead of centering this energy, however, youâre going to push it out to envelope you. Visualization in your meditation and centering exercises should help with this; visualizing energy usually makes it easier for people to push it outward. Again, knowing what specifically makes this your protective energy will be useful - what color is it? Texture? Is it elemental? Perhaps your energy doesnât feel like light, but water or air. Maybe white is a protective color to you or maybe green is, for Earth. Maybe your energy shield is a network of stars in the shape of your zodiac constellation. Maybe the outside is reflective, to reflect any negativity directed your way. Maybe its a shield of smoke, to conceal yourself. No matter what it looks like to you, just make sure it is yours. Donât feel pressured to commit to something either - your idea of what these concepts look like will grow and change as much as you do. Push this energy outward and around you, as if you are creating a protective bubble for yourself. To enhance the intensity of desired outcome, surround yourself with corresponding elements. Light white candles or wear black tourmaline. I personally like to use dragonâs blood incense or oils. There are many things you can do in tandem with any of these practices, so long as they make sense for you and are helping you to achieve your desired results. This shield will become stronger the more you do this and keep you protected from psychic attacks, curses and hexes, negative energy, and bad intent. These exercises are all building blocks to unlocking great power within oneself, but they are also a great power on their own as well. Taking the time and patience to hone these skills will aid you in all your magical endeavors, whether through sharper focus, strong visual associations, enforced protective barriers, and/or knowing your true self above all else. Once you have established your abilities, you will be able to do them any time, anywhere and begin to play more with energy, both internal and external. In the follow up, I will focus on charging and programming.Â
IF YOU CARE ABOUT ME AND OTHER TAROT READERS ON THIS APP, PLEASE READ THIS
I donât do readings as much as I used to on here because I felt as though I was giving hours of my time to anyone who came into my inbox and I would be extremely lucky for receiving $10 total for the night, regardless of how many readings I turned out. (Which was literally the case tonight. I made $10 after completing 50 readings). Tonight was a test to see how valued my time and energy are to my followers.
Iâm willing to do public readings once in a while bc I know not everyone has the means to pay! But reading takes ENERGY yâall. SO much energy (yes, even 1 card draws!!!! Even short little interpretations!!!!) and so much time. That is, if you want a reading thatâs actually accurate, and worth while, which are ALWAYS the goals with the readings I give.
Many people praise me in their requests by telling me Iâm wonderful for hosting readings, and while the compliments are appreciated!!!, they are not actually a mutual exchange of energy or effort at all and without tips or feedback, are actually quite patronizing and shallow, like complimenting a waiter on their hard work throughout your meal and then leaving nothing but a smiley face written in pen on the bill where the tip line is.
I know not everyone can afford to send a tip, however, I have even asked that feedback be given in place of a monetary tip if one cannot afford to pay money, and even then most of the readings that I put effort into are ignored, not reblogged, not replied to, and I do not receive any sort of recognition after the reading has been done.
As such, I am sad to say that I can no longer extend my readings as I have tonight, as Iâve been shown time and again that I will not be compensated fairly for my time and energy in tips nor in just a quickly written feedback note.
From here on out, I personally will be limiting my free reading sessions to 10 people at a time. Paid readings are always available, and if a tip is sent beforehand I will gladly answer those requests as well.
Sadly, I feel as though my readings (while fun!!) are not being valued for what they are and until that happens I have to set limits.
Iâm sad to have to do this but I hope that everyone understands my position! I will inform everyone when my next set of readings will be held when I am able.
I appreciate every single one of you who has gotten a reading from me and left me a tip or given me feedback!! They truly mean so much more than you know and I see them as true acts of respect and love. You are seen and you are loved as well! đ
I BEG yâall to listen to what the person who offers you their services is saying.
You will also notice I do not say âFreeâ readings. I use the term âPublic Readingsâ now to indicate that while yes, I am accepting reading requests, that does not mean that I do not expect some form of compensation for my hard work, whether that be monetary OR in the form of actual feedback (can be given through a comment on a reblog, replying to the post, or sending in another ask telling me about your experience).
My energy is not free. My time is not free. My 5 years of experience as a reader are not free.
Please show me the same respect as you would a waiter at a restaurant and leave me with something that shows that my time and work is valued and acknowledged.
I also want to point out that the $10 I received came from a combined total of (2) TWO people. Out of 50. Not ten people tipping me a dollar. Not five people tipping me 2 dollars. TWO PEOPLE TOTAL. This is why I am upset. Not the amount tipped, but the amount of people doing the tipping.
The amount of feedback or notes at ALL on the readings Iâve posted report slightly better numbers, but weâre talking maybe 10/50. Thats 1/5th out of all the readings Iâve held even being ACKNOWLEDGED.
That is really damn hurtful.
The lack of respect for diviners on this site is appalling and has only worsened over the years and itâs really understandable why so many renowned readers have left this platform altogether.
Some Urban Witchcraft Things I Do
Using small shielding wards while moving in crowded spaces to stop people from entering my personal space, using it to get a space on the train while others try very hard to not be too close.
Being a regular customer at a coffee shop, where the barista knows your order, using that regularity and infusing it in the drink to ensure a smooth work day.
Tapping into the electrical energy of street lights, traffic lights, the tangles of power lines or the wire work embedded in the concrete. Tapping into it to feel the pulse of the entire city and how its as never-ending and expansive as nature and the cosmos
Borrowing energies from businesses, abandoned spaces and construction equipment for on-the-fly spells. (Once I used a buzz saw being used for a building renovation for a shield spell)
Pausing at florist displays to communicate with the small fresh spirits living in the cultivated potted gift plants, their energies foreign in the space.
Meditating on public transit, buses and trains, tapping into the circuits they run, the power that sustains them, and the thousands of people constantly on and off them.
Meeting eyes with the birds who brave the city streets, connecting a kin-ess of survival under such unnatural conditions.Â
Marking sigils in the crook of my elbow in sharpie after designing them on the receipts that are tangled in my pockets.
Recognizing the glamor in mundane objects in stores, items being charged by desire and brand recognition by those who handle them, recognizing the residual affect it has on you after touching it.
Instinctively finding green spaces and specific plants you enjoy (for me its lavender, I can smell it from a block away) and having a mental map of where to pilfer powerful plants from city gardens.Â
Feeling the spirit of the city, all the energies of thousands of people and history and industry only -just- covering the nature that existed there for millennia before it, feeling all this as you walk through the quiet dark streets in the early morning hours.Â
