It seems so adorable. I'd love to get to know them and see them in person. I also noticed that they are afraid of Affini so maybe it might be a bit easier since I am a bit smaller than usual.

"Hello! Afon's just in there, would you like me to come in with you to meet it or stay out here? They're on a low dose of Class-E and F right now-but you can give them a counteragent if you want to get insight into their...usual state? Oh, and the Wardship paperwork is prepared." The Affini seems to have a sort of nervous excitement. Every day that had passed without Afon finding a Wardship made her worry.

Hello Afon~ my name is Atroposi, I've come to see if I can look after you. How are you feeling?

They startle, settling after a moment on account of the Class-Es. It looks at Atroposi, a mix of excitement and restrained fear in it's eyes.

"Hi, Atroposi. I'm feeling fine-not like those Class-E things will let me feel much else, but I digress."

They pause for a moment before remembering standard social etiquette.

"How are you?"

Omg they're adorable. I slowly walk into the room, sitting at a cool 4 feet tall.

I'm fine cutie, I'm a veterinary surgeon, what do you like to do?

I mimic how terrans sit cross-legged.

Do I scare you?

Their eyes light up.

"Woah! A surgeon? That must be so cool!! What's that like? The closest thing to that I've ever done is stitching people's wounds and that was pretty enjoyable but-"

It pauses and realizes that was a weird thing to say. "Pretty enjoyable?" Who says that about first aid?

"...Anyways. Kind of. You're less intimidating appearance-wise than some other Affini I've met, but I understand size-based fear is like...social conditioning. Mostly it's just...the power you have over other specie-sophonts, I guess. And the imperialism."

Oh I'm so glad you're interested! I can show you some of my work sometime if you want, I specialise in biomods.

And that's okay, I know being big isn't the only reason for your fear, but I hope you can get to know my cute self and feel a bit less anxious.

I also know that Lisea has told you they're looking for a wardship for you, how do you feel about having a warden? And how would you feel about me as the warden?

"...I'd like to see that. I...don't...really want a warden-I don't want to be here at all really."

A flash of panic appears in their eyes before the Class-E soothes it.

"But I don't get a choice, and you seem interesting, so if you want I'll be your ward."

I'd love to look after you, I also might be getting a floret soon, would that bother you?

"I don't have anything against florets, so I suppose not."

At this point I just wanna know why the Affini keep turning our dudes into catgirls. Our losses in dudes is substantial but I still don’t get why it’s always catgirls. Like I’ve given up on being mad about it, I’m just confused at this point. What is the tactical advantage here? What do you guys gain from this?

An Open Letter to any Sophont in the Affini Compact

Glad to see Lars and the Nebula Prowler are still going strong. Thankful for the small bits of help with the warming of the pod as well.

I’ve been spending my time reading through blogs and seeing these “floret” people with their supposed Affini owners(is there an official term? I am not too knowledgeable on Compact things). Lots and lots of Independents as well.

I am obviously hoping for the best with the Compact (there is still a very real chance this is all fake propaganda, but at this point I am too tired to keep myself from hoping it true), and because of that I would like to know some things to expect if I am found and rescued.

How is your life in the Compact?

Whether you’re a floret or Independent, I don’t mind. It just is nice to visualize what life is like there. I’ve been stuck out here, floating in space for about 3 weeks now. It’s been getting to me. So do tell me about how life is over there. Maybe one day I could join you?

i guess im technically independent? more like waiting for a wardship but idk

its good for the most part! the foods a lot better, and Terra is so much less polluted now. all the affini i've met have been pretty nice too (scary,,but nice).

the only problems i have are the classism (the hierarchy of affini on top and all other sophonts below them) and the surveillance that makes my paranoia act up like crazy

I’ve heard a lot about the surveillance system. Obviously the Compact is flawed, but I have to admit the idea of living without money and the stress accompanying it is nice. I hope the Affini aren’t nice in that way where your boss pretends to like your idea before laying you off. But knowing how our superiors are in the Accord, they’re most likely inauthentic as can be.

Glad to see you’re doing well though. Maybe, if I can get rescued before things fizzle out and I die, we can meet sometime. I hope.
