It was the evening of November 3rd, Eddie’s 21st birthday, and thanks to not only Richie but the rest of the losers, they were standing at the bar of a prestigious club in Uptown New York waiting for their drinks. As the last of the losers club to turn of age, there was definitely nothing that Eddie could say to get him out of having the night out with his friends to celebrate.

First, at Eddie’s request, they had gone out for a meal. It was to one of his favourite restaurants and as always, they had an amazing time. Yet, they couldn’t sit at the table forever, much to Eddie’s chagrin, so here he was, tipping back shot after shot as his friends looked on.

The music was loud, thumping in his ears, yet the more he drank, the more the music faded into the background. His body was thrumming, both from the alcohol and from the vibrations of the speakers. The dance floor was filled with people, bodies moving to the rhythm of the music. If Eddie were brave enough, he would have sat his drink to the side and moved to join them, yet instead he lifted the glass of vodka and coke to his lips and took a sip.

Love, Simon (2018) perfectly displays the difference between a manipulative public proposal and a sweet grand romantic gesture in the best way possible. Martin, when trying to ask a girl out, publicly humiliates her by pressuring her to say yes to him in front of a huge crowd of people and putting her in the spotlight, making her visibly uncomfortable. When Simon makes the gesture to Blue, it gives “Blue” the opportunity to back out and not show his face, therefore making Simon the only subject of ridicule if the situation goes wrong, showing his dedication and his love for Blue in that he is willing to undergo EVEN MORE humiliation to find him. This, among other parts of the movie, clearly outlines the fact that homosexual people have perfected romance to a degree that straight people have not found. In this essay I will -

not being really overweight but not being thin is a weird place because you never look quite as good as your friends and you’re in that spot that everyone tells you “you’re not fat!” but doesn’t want to say you’re thin and no matter if your weight shifts you always sort of look the same to yourself and in some situations you can hide your appearance but in others its alarmingly obvious, and buying clothes is like a luck of the draw as to if you’ll look thin or huge because it feels like there isn’t an in between

I’ve never read a book that treated its characters with more tenderness, generosity, and sympathy than Benjamin Sáenz’s Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Even when the characters don’t think they deserve it, especially when the characters don’t think they deserve it, the narrative holds out cupped hands full of love and patiently waits for them to take it. It makes my heart ache so much; it’s a book that genuinely makes me aspire to be a kinder person.
