“At least someone gets it.”
“Yeah, the zombie craze is dying anyway. Maybe this season of the Walking Dead will bring it back to life?”
“If one more person asks me what type of zombie I am, I’m going to lose my shit.”
“No zombie jokes. Got it.”
vclkyriors:
“You a criminal then?”
“War criminal technically. I think? Either way, I’m on probation now so it doesn’t really matter.”
corcontriitum:
“Not that I know of. I’m Air and Space division.”
“So I’m good as long as I don’t jump? Got it.”
itsybitsyarachne:
“It probably should have though.”
“It sucked that bad for you, huh?”
itsybitsyarachne:
Jessica had never believed in karma, luck or any of that bullshit. If she did she would have never questioned the fact that it had never been in her favor. It all went back to her parents, really. They had started the whole mess when they decided to experiment on an unborn child and continue that post birth. It had all been some sort of sick joke from the beginning. Give her spider powers? Great idea. The stasis tank? Even better. The real kicker had been when they had abandoned her and left no trace of their whereabouts, officially setting their daughter up to be the most fucked woman in an existence.
Still, Jessica had never been one to let the shit of the past let her down. She had bounced from HYDRA upon realizing it was bad and made a place for herself at S.H.I.E.L.D. She had been an Avenger, for Christ’s sake, even if her apartment was falling apart now and she forgot to pay her water bill. It had always been about moving forward, getting better and improving. By focusing on what she could do instead of what had been done to her Jessica had found a way to make it through for years. It wasn’t until Gerry was gone and the Cleanse wiped everything out that Jess finally realized she was sick and tired of fighting and trying and putting so much effort in. She was tired and if she wanted to fail or mess up then she’d let herself.
Clint was probably a fail.
Sure, they had dated. It had been a steaming pile of wreckage that everyone had suspected it would be even if they wouldn’t admit it. He was getting over something else and she was new and green and willing. Jessica had cared about Clint, yes, but they hadn’t worked out. They were better as friends and that made it all the worst that they had slipped back into the same old destructive habits that Jessica liked to pretend she had left behind.
“Oh?” Her voice was muffled until she tugged the sweater down over a tangle of dark curls. “Is that the kind of people we are now? We linger, eat meals together?” Still, she paused. “But fine. I’m not staying here because your food is probably covered in mold. We’ll get something.”
“I eat coffee and Eggo’s with Barney and that doesn’t mean anything.” Clint said shuddering at any unintentional images that came to mind. “Yeah, but most of the mold hasn’t bloomed yet so it’d probably okay. Worst case scenario would be death, so really the stakes aren’t that high for us.” Clint joked wryly. They took that risk every time they put on the mask anyway, so what was the big deal?
He wasn’t really sure why he asked Jess to stay for breakfast for dinner. It wasn’t as if he had even been a marginally good host anytime she’d come over before. He cared for her but it wasn’t as if he had romantic feelings for her. He probably didn’t at least. If he was being honest with himself he’d realize it was because he was lonely, unfortunately by his own design. Despite how much he needed people in his life he took every conceivable action to drive them away. Maybe he just appreciated that Jess was back to being a constant in his life, even if it wasn’t the meaningful relationship he was looking for.
“So you had a problem with ‘lingering and eating meals together’ but your perfectly fine with going on a brinner date?” Clint teased lightly as he pulled up his jeans. “As long as they have waffles and caffeine I’m in.”

If only Clint climbing through her window beat up was something that would come as a surprise. Jumping up from her bed before Clint fell onto it, Kate was moving through the studio towards her fridge. She bent over as she rifled around inside, returning a moment later with an icy bag. “Nope. Corn. Looks like someone had a rough night, huh? Run into an ex or something?”
“Aw, man. Corn is too starchy.” Clint was just looking for things to complain about a this point. “I’ll take it anyway.” He added before raising a hand in the air signifying he was ready to catch it. “Yeah, but that’s unrelated. I ran into a truck. Well I guess they ran into me.”
thebetterhawk:
“Hey, quiet. You’re deaf but he’s not. Don’t draw attention to us.” Eyes darting around once, Kate crouched down next to Clint and tugged her baseball cap lower. “He’s been the best boy and I’ve been decently good. You know how it goes.”
“Well if you’d just teach him sign language we wouldn’t have this problem. No we wouldn’t, Lucky!” Clint said sweetly in a baby voice. Switching to his regular Kate voice, “Good. You ready for the next season of Dog Cop to start? Next Thursday right?”
thewxsp:
“Didn’t you already do that with the Black Widow? Sorry, Red Room knows Red Room.”
“Oh yeah. Keeping me on my toes.”

If you wanted to survive in their line of work then you had to learn to shed your identity like scales. It was what Natasha had been doing her entire life, espionage a reason to tuck away and suppress and change. You could only run for so long though. Eventually confrontation was inevitable and it didn’t matter what you called yourself. Hawkeye. Ronin. Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. It didn’t matter. Natasha Romanoff knew Clint Barton and that was what it would come down to at the end of the day.
Watching him drop down from the rafters with the voice changer on all felt a little melodramatic. When you considered the blood dripping from his side it almost bordered on overkill. Despite this Natasha kept her demeanor composed. She left her Widow’s Bites on and glowing, electricity pulsing through the worn cuffs. When the voice changer finally clicked off Natasha allowed a small smile to cross her lips, shoulders twitching upwards.
“I like the person who called himself Hawkeye. That count?” Taking a step closer, Natasha took a second to glance over his new ensemble with critical eyes. “How’re you going to explain that new puncture to your parole officer?”
“Makes you a member of a very exclusive.” Clint replied grateful that his cowl hid his wincing. He felt like such an extra douche right now. Stereotypical ninja out fit. Voice changer. Ceiling drop down. It’s like he was on the CW.
He knew Nat would eventually figure him out. She knew him far too well to not to. She was one of the only people who knew his forms and fighting styles outside of his bow. She who had actually seen him train with swords. It wouldn’t be hard for her to figure out that the style and forms matched up directly to him. He had been hoping to get at least another solid month as Ronin before she figured him out.
“I’m leaning towards the excuse of got drunk and fell on a steak knife. It’s worked before.” He said with a small laugh quickly followed by a groan as he clenched his wound. “Not to ruin this meet cute, but could you either turn off your Widow’s Bites and help me or beat the shit out of me. I really don’t have enough blood for you to be a tease.”
blackxwidxw:
“Unfortunately for you that’s what we need right now.”
“My sanity or me losing it?”
warmachiinerox:
“I won’t tell if you don’t.” Rhodes chuckled lightly. “That does sound tempting, Barton, but not this time. There’s not much town to have a romantic night out on. You still retired?”
“Next time then.” Clint joked lightly. “I drink light beer and watch dog cop all day if that’s what you’re asking?” Clint joked as he avoided the question.
“So what’s retirement like for the hawk?” Steve jabbed. “I don’t think I’ll ever get to the age.”
“You’re past the age.” Clint mused. “A little bit of drinking, a little bit of lounging, some light yoga now and then.” Clint mused wishing he had a better excuse for his muscle gain other than yoga.
when are you going to tell people that you aren't actually retired?
“Probably when they figure it out on their own? I’m not looking to tell anyone without being called out on it first. At least for now.”
FMK - Natasha, Kate, Steve
“Aw man, why’d you have to make this complicate by adding Kate in the mix? Alright, sorry Steve, you gotta go. You’re great but, peace. I don’t want to F Kate, but if I M Kate then F’ing anyone else would feel wrong... So should I just F her and be one and done and M Nat...? Ew. No, what am I think. I’ll F Nat and have a sexless M with Kate.”
why the change of color scheme?
“To fit my new brand.”
