“I’ve heard ruder.” Rhodey waved her off. He turned then at the second comment, face curious but mouth closed for a moment. “You going to leave that ‘though’ hanging there?”

“We have to do what we think is right. If we learn otherwise then we have to be able to accept that and change as well. Matters of opinion and right and wrong were big around here during the Superhuman Civil War. We all thought we were on the right side. I wonder if any of us were.”

“Well, at times I wonder if I could have stopped it. Watching friends bicker amongst themselves has never been something I am good at ignoring. But perhaps intervening could have made it worse. And maybe it’s best that we’ll never know.”

“Wondering isn’t going to get us anywhere. Not at this point.” Rhodey ran a hand over his face. “Maybe. We’ll have to leave it at that.”

“It’s good to see that there’s some hope for the future. Now, are you projecting again? I’ve met the kid a few times but she doesn’t seem like the fan club type.” Rhodey scoffed. “Nah, I told her that I would pass the information along. You two are smart enough to plan.”

“Yes.” It was a simple answer but it carried weight– after all his loss, being together with everyone he had left meant more than he could express. “I am grateful to have you and the others. When I heard of the split between Stark and Rogers I was sorry that I hadn’t been present– though I suppose no one could talk sense into either of them at the time.”

“Be glad you weren’t here, Thor. It was a mess. You know we all love you and Bruce here but it would have been more firepower in a fight that had too much already. It went down how it went down and we should be glad no one died then.”
