"---- Hey!"

Johanna smiled. shutting the door behind her as she read her letter, only rolling her eyes at Sherlock’s violin playing. He was going to get an earful if it was he way of telling her to come out of her room and listen to him talk.
Dear Alana Deloria,
It’s been a while, yes. It seems that the catching criminals thing is going to be a regular part of living with Sherlock. I’m welcoming the change of excitement but I can’t really say I enjoy the violin playing at 4 in the morning before I attempt to go work a the clinic but I guess I’ll take it for the great flat and feeling better.
Job security is nice, not really something that I have anymore. I’d love that but I get too antsy I guess. What’s the best job you’ve ever had? In a what do you enjoy fixing the most way.
Captain Johanna Watson
P.S What do you mean by reeducation?
Alana rolled her eyes as she held the letter above her head as the dog jumped joyfully around her feet, "Will you- get out--" It was no luck, there was no way she'd be getting into her trailer with him acting like this. She huffed and slumped down onto one of the chairs on her porch, letting the dog jump into the chair next to her as she kicked off her shoes.
The dog whined until she read the letter aloud.
She clicked on the radio and Cecil's voice filled the air, she dug a pad of paper from her bag and started her reply as she listened to the news of the day.
Dear Miss(?) Joanna Watson,
Violin playing at four in the morning doesn't seem so bad, unless he's terrible at it. Is he terrible at it? I imagine that of all the things that wake me up at four in the morning, and must wake you as well, that violin playing wouldn't be the worst. So he must be terrible at it.
You're a doctor though, yes? You must have some level of job security, people will always be sick or hurt (those of us that had pain sensors that is), so someone will always need you. And I enjoy your letters, so I need you to keep writing them. There's some form of security.
I love working at our local radio station, one of my friends from high school is the radio host and he's wonderful. The equipment is familiar and old and I just... I don't know, I feel very close to the station. I'm actually listening to Cecil's show as I write this. My favorite job was probably my very first though, and it wasn't technically a repair? I built a radio when I was in high school, after I quit cheering, and it's worked ever since. I used to bring it on jobs, but he's getting old so I keep him at home now, Cecil finally made me buy a portable radio that I clip onto my belt so I can listen to his afternoon shows, or while I'm on late jobs.
I tell him about our letters. He likes that I have someone to talk to, he thinks I work too much.
Oh! I have a dog now. He followed me home and won't leave. So... guess I get to keep him. Do you like dogs? I don't know what to do with him. I haven't had a dog since I was really little.
Alana Deloria
P.S. What do you mean? Don't you have reeducation where you are?

"Woah! Ow-- hey! What was that?"
…*eyes widen, smiles* Really?? You mean it?
"Sure do."

Johanna smiled when she got the letter, a bit surprised that she actually got a response but there was a sweet girl? Woman? Either way Alana was lovely. From what this little letter said at least. Pulling the letter back into her lap Johanna read it for the tenth time since receiving it. Finally. Peace and quiet after that first, odd, case with her new flatmate. Well she had something to talk about this time.
Dear Alana Deloria,
It’s been a long while since I’ve written. But something has happened to me! It’s shocking, really. But a friend from uni had introduced my to my flatmate. He’s mad, infuriating and the most interesting person I’ve ever met. We caught a murderer, solved a crime. I don’t know how else to put this.
Repairs are important I’m sure it’s interesting how things work.
Captain Johanna Watson
-I was a medic, that’s all.
The dog was curled up in her lap, taking up the majority of Alana's bed quite contently, the creature had barely left the girl's side since she'd returned from reeducation the previous day. In fact, the only time the dog had been away from her, was when it went to fetch the letter it had heard get slipped beneath Alana's door. Though Alana was weak and tired, the letter made her very happy for her new pen pal and she made sure to reply.
Dear Captain Johanna Watson,
It has been quite some time hasn't it? But that's alright, from what I can tell of the postmarks, our letters have to go through quite a bit to get to each other. Though, this letter may not get sent to you for a day or two, I'm afraid I won't be able to leave the bed for another day or so. This last session of reeducation took a bit out of me.
You caught a murderer? That's amazing! My dad was a deputy before he died, but he could rarely tell me about his job. Guess he didn't want me to get scared... You sound entirely different from your last letter, the same but... I don't know, happier? Excited? I think this new flatmate will do you good, if he keeps you as interested as you are now.
It's a stable job around here, something's always breaking or getting broken. At least I know I've got some job security.
Be careful, Captain. It sounds like your life is going to be far more exciting than it used to be.
Alana Deloria
-Then you'd know all about how interesting it is to know how things work, wouldn't you? Repairing the human body isn't that different from repairing a home.
*brightly* All kinds! Thin Mints, and Lemonades, and…*picks up one box, frowning a little* …these black-box kinds…
How about one of each?

Johanna tapped her pencil against her desk. Who was she kidding? Writing letters, getting a pen pal? There was nothing that she could write that would be interesting in this letter. She wasn’t going to just spew out all her problems and expect some stranger to be interested. Or respond positively. But her therapist had forced her when the idea to write a blog had gone down hill. Anything to stop the nagging. Who cared if she was ‘alienating’ herself. Wasn’t that normal for someone like herself?
Hello,
I’m terribly sorry I’ve not got much to tell you. Nothing happens to me. I think the last time something anywhere near exciting happened was months ago. During my final days of being in the army. But that’s not relevant. I hope that you’re doing well, whoever you are. Hopefully if you chose to write me back.
Captain Johanna Watson
Surprised maybe wasn't the exact word that fit Alana's emotions when she arrived home from a long day of repairs to find a letter sitting on the mat in front of the door. Suspicious maybe fit better, especially when she looked around and saw no one except for her four legged companion.
And now she was sitting at her table, reading it over while Cecil's show played in the background. There was no announcement about letters from pen pals arriving, no warning against them, no nothing. So, in a momentary lapse in sanity, Alana pulled out a paper and replied.
Hi,
I know how you feel, it gets boring going through the day to day. Not much happens to me either, it's been a few weeks since anything took a notice to me. Unless you count the dog that's taking a liking to me, but he's hardly interesting.
You were in the army? That sounds relevant. What did you do in the army?
Alana Deloria
-No fancy title, just a repair person.
Nature! *beams* We get to learn how to control it with our minds.
Well then of course I'll buy some cookies. I'd hate for you to miss that. What kinds have you got, little love?

"Only a few months ago. They bought my contract with…well I can’t remember the company’s name anymore. Doesn’t seem important these days," He smiled somewhat.
Alana laughed a little, nodding, "Yeah, it all seems to fade into the background after a while, doesn't it? At least it's never boring... well, generally it's never boring."

Sam shook the hand with a smile, relaxing some now that he knows where she’s from. “Sam Wesson, the town’s tech support, nice to meet you, Alana…”
She beamed, "Nice to meet you too, Sam." she said, shoving her hand in her pocket after their handshake was done. "So, tech support?" she asked, tilting her head slightly to the side, "When'd the town get tech support? I mean, not that I don't think that's awesome. Tech can be a pain for me sometimes, way out of my league, ya know?"
