The Wonder Chef, Rixy Sylwest, is absolutely not a sylph. She’s absolutely not the sylph Rixia who left the Sylphlands shortly after the Calamity over ideological differences about the presence of Ramuh in the Shroud. She’s certainly not using an advanced form of glamour to morph herself into an Elezen every morning and work as a cook for the Bandee Pakshee. What would make you think all that?
Other than it being painfully, obviously true.
Rixy is, therefore, shockingly naive. She just doesn’t get most of the world of the walking ones, but tries so hard to fit in with them. She wants to be adopted by this alien culture, to be deeply and truly a part of it, because the walking world is her home now. And because it’s much harder to be a part of that world if she doesn’t adapt to it culturally. But this naivety is almost as glaring as her Sylphic grammar and has been taken advantage of on more than a few occasions. An early employer paid her in square yalms of ocean, for instance.
But despite this, the thing Rixy is most passionate about and most talented in is cooking. She believes that food is the greatest insight into a culture. What things it values, what things it delights in, what things it dislikes can all be understood at least partially through its food. And by sharing in another culture’s food you can see their humanity. All walking ones must eat, and so food is a great equalizer. She delights in making eclectic menus that represent a wide and diverse global palate and her skills with the skillet have been recognized far and wide, including as a finalist in Iron Chef Eorzea.
Rixia is a member of the Bandee Pakshee Free Company on Balmung.

The Nomathon! Hosted by meandering-mind and won by @aegir-ffxiv
Eorzea’s Iron Chef!
The competition was amazingly fierce. At least four teams got 90/100 points or higher. Congrats to Team Kupo Nuts and, with scores like that, congrats to everyone who participated!
As I said to my team, sometimes you’re aces, but so is everyone else.
Hosted by @for-gold-and-glory
Iron Chef Competition!
DATE: Tues, Nov 21st TIME: 8pm EST Location: Gold & Glory FC Downstairs- The Goblet - W: 6, P: 5
Don Coconero is at it again! He has moved himself in and transformed the Gold & Glory downstairs into an Iron Chef arena! And somehow managed to fit a throne in…
THE GAME:
Competitors will be cooking off against each other for the bragging rights of the Epoch! A chance to be named IRON CHEF! They will create a masterpiece, using a secret, unknown (as Don has not decided yet) ingredient! Can they survive the turmoil? The harsh critique of the four judges? Can they survive the other chefs?!
Number of contestants: 8 teams, each team can have a max of 3 people
THE PRIZES:
Second and Third Place: 25% Discount at our Bountiful Chest Tavern!
GRAND PRIZE: Major bragging rights, your dish will be featured (credited to you) as part of the *future G&G menu! ( tiny.cc/bc-menu ), and as WELL, Don Coconero also offers a ‘mysterious and fabulous prize’ to the winner!
THE RULES:
The competition is a timed event (one hour real time) where you will make a dish based around our SECRET INGREDIENT.
The competitors will be judged by our on the following categories:
1) Presentation: (your description of dish) (score 1-5)
2) Taste: (RNG) (Score 1-5)
3) **Complexity (how well they RPed out making it) (Score 1-10)
*Unless you prefer otherwise, we will feature your dish, credit to you, and either post your own IRL picture of the dish, or we will have one of our company members cook and take a picture of the dish for you! In RP you will of course be paid for the rights for it, however we are not offering actual Gil. We want to encourage people to come to have fun, not just for reward.
**There will be two parts to the RP of cooking; the actual cooking, and SURVIVING YOUR FELLOW CONTESTANTS. Contestants are permitted amid their cooking to try and foul things up for the other chefs. (This is all in good OOC fun, and a good way to explain how your RNG score of taste could be low) There are no rolls for the “combat” of the cooking phase. That said, be a good sport OOC with it! Because remember, you are being JUDGED. (Underhandedness not actually required, just an option for general hilarity and spectator enjoyment.)
Please contact Aegir Hlerson, Lirilith Maellan, or Araceli Caillen in game, or message our tumblr, if you wish to participate! This will be first come, first serve!
Progress!

FFXIV Write 2017 | Part 4: “Self-Editing” Starring Rixia
The caravan rolling through the market got her attention. She still wasn’t used to seeing this sort of thing. Chocobos pulling carts through streets filled with walking ones. Big ones standing on the cart, throwing boxes to other big ones who caught them and carried them to a particular shopkeeper. She wasn’t used to this sight yet. It looked crazy, honestly. How did they coordinate so well? How did they know if there were children in the boxes or not?
“This one will take one bushel of yams, three of popotos and one of oranges please,” she smiled, tearing her eyes away from the strange sight long enough to address the produce procurement one. She hastily added. “Oh, and one of persimmon please?”
Rixy looked like a tanned Elezen with hair fading from green to a yellow-orange. Her leaves turned. She had bright, large eyes and a tattoo of a pastel green flower on her cheek. On this, like most, days she wore a pastel green maid’s outfit, with a ruby broach at her chest. She didn’t look like someone to take seriously.
The shopkeeper eyed her warily. The strange appearance and her odd manner of speech usually got that kind of look. Shopkeepers in Limsa knew her by now, she’d worked at too restaurants out there. The beast tribes where she sourced some rarer ingredients either knew her true nature, or didn’t know walking ones well enough to see her as an oddity. But this was an Ul’dahn market. She wasn’t known here yet.
After a long silence, she held up a slip of paper. “This one has money. Can pay.”
The merchant took the paper and looked it over with disbelief. It was a promissory note, certified by Ul’dah to be worth a certain amount of gil. It was slightly more than the amount he’d charge for the order she placed. Still, he looked at her skeptically. “I’ve heard about your kind,” he said dryly. “I’ll not be cheated.”
This made her blink. Cheated? She never cheated. “T-this one has money. This one checked with book-balance ones about the price, this one had a note made.”
“Illusions are what you people do,” he huffed and handed back the paper. “I’m not bein’ tricked into takin’ blank scrip for six bushel o’ produce.”
You people. She scrunched up her face. Sylphs. There was a small part of her who wanted to show this bastard that what her magic did was so much more than illusion, but she shoved that down. She was a walking one now. She had to act like a walking one. She had to convince him. “This one is confused.”
“What does a sylph need with-”
She didn’t listen to the rest of what he said. Instead there was a ringing in her ears. This was why she was a walking one. This was what she hated. She needed to fit in. She needed to be one of them. She couldn’t live in their world as a Sylph. She couldn’t be a cooking one.
“… an’ for that matter beastfolk ain’t allowed in Ul’dah. Now get lost before I call the Blades to make a salad.”
She wanted to scream. She wanted to cry. She wanted to electrocute this son of a bitch. She kept calm. “This one is an Elezen,” she said with forced patience. “This one grew up in Gridania. Was raised by Sylphy ones.” It wasn’t a lie, not really, it just wasn’t honest. “This one’s money is good. Please take?”
The man folded his arms and looked her over. He was looking for anything that gave away the lie.
A thousand calculations ran through her mind. Legs, and how they worked, and how people used them, and how they stood. Arms, and how she carried them. Walking one body language. Eye contact. Conviction. No wavering, no spinning, no dancing, no nervous habits. No petals or leaves. She’d done it more times than she could count. She’d never quite made it second nature, but she tried so hard so often.
Finally, with a concerted push, she landed the hardest part. “I really need this.”
He humphed and took the promissory note from her hand. “Where am I deliverin’ to?”
Getting used to Ul’dah was going to be her biggest challenge yet, if this man was right. If simply being who she was made her a criminal here. She’d need to work a lot harder, to stamp out more of what it meant to be Rixia in order to really sell Rixy. She was sure she could do it though.

Peach Pound Cake
Omijacha Tea 오미자차
Omijacha (오미자차, 五味子茶: omija fruit punch or omija tea), meaning “Five Flavor Tea,” is a kind of Korean traditional drink made of fruit herbs called omija (Schisandra chinensis). It is usually served during the hot summer days as energy replenishment and for quenching thirst. Koreans made use of the herbs as remedy ingredients as well as traditional drinks. The plants, especially the fruits, have bright red colors, sticky, and also various tastes including sweet, sour, bitter and spicy resulted from its malic acid and tartaric acid. To make omijacha, the fruits are dried and soaked in the water and then sieved. The sieved water then is added with sugar or honey. The punch is garnished with azalea petals if served during the spring; and if served with yellow rose petals, during summer. As with many Korean tea’s, it is very often garnished with three pine nuts.
