You wake to a lot of distant yelling everywhere.
Oh. Oh no... Where to go first? Aurora stepped out of her room, looking around. Sav had also stepped out, looking just as baffled. The big tank had Butterfly in a carrier, but the baby seemed to have slept through whatever was going on.
".. We know the captain is still online, since we heard him. He might not welcome company right away." Sav opined. "Possibly we split up to check on the others and then one of us, probably you, goes to check on him when he's more receptive to company."
"That sounds good, probably..." Aurora sighed. "I don't really like the idea of leaving him alone, but there's only two of us that aren't affected by whatever this is who are adults. The children need to be a priority, and Firestarter isn't likely to be as wary about having someone nearby when they have a perceived vulnerability." She thought hard for a moment, then pointed a digit, "Please go see how fire starter is doing and I'm going to check on the boys and then hopefully go talk to Skyfire."
She hoped they were making the right call. She was Skyfire's assistant but caring for the twins was among her duties and Sav was right that the big shuttle might be lashing out or distancing himself at first after whatever happened.
So she headed to the twins' room, knocking on door. "Boys? Hey, can I come in?"
Savagepounder, meanwhile, went to Firestarter's room. He didn't have quit the manners or patience that Aurora did, so he punched in his maintenance code and went right in. "Firestarter? Hey, what happened?"
notatrine The twins cuddled up on either side of her, confused, disoriented, with so much extra stimuli and the leftover panic from their nightmares. Jetfire was still running warm. "Miss Rora, is everyone okie? They're not the hurts is they?" He sniffled. "We woke up and then there was more screaming and we is not getting out." Jetstorm added. Both of them looked up as Butterfly started crying. "oh, hey Sav, sorry for waking her," they said, releasing their grip on the younger. "awwww, been a while since I saw you that small Butterfly, poor baby. Awwww, I know, I'm sorry. I bet you needed that sleep." "Sav, help, I found this weirdo on board and they're saying they are me!"
"So far I know that Sav, Butterfly and I are." She assured them, "Sav's checking on Firestarter, and we haven't heard anything from Sky yet to indicate any problems on his end, so that's encouraging, but I came to see you two as soon as I heard you screaming." The camien stroked their backs gently, "So what do you think happened, boys?" "This.... has to be an irregularity residual of the wormhole.." Sav deduced, looking between the two Firestarters. "They do look quit a bit like you." Butterfly was starting to settle now that no one was yelling anymore, reassured by her sire.
"Was having the bad dream." "A real nasty nightmare." "We couldn't be saving anyone. Everyone was just... Gone. All gone. Was awful. Then I freaked out. Was burning."
"Had to be putting him out." Jetstorm mimed with a little whoosh of air.
"We... Have the wings. Is why?" Jetfire looked up at her "Mr Scream was telling us we would never be having them."
Oh no now they were pouting.
They knelt down. "Hey. Hey. I bet you're lonely too, I don't see any evidence of your buddies. Yeah, I bet you'd love to have some playmates. Sorry I didn't bring mine."
"So are we in their timeline or are they in ours?"
"Considering you're in the middle of nowhere and I wasn't before this, it's safe to say I'm in yours. Or were all in a third one."
She kissed their foreheads, "You still have wings normally, they're just... Small?" Tiny nubbins. Which was fairly odd for jets. "I'm not entirely sure what cause you to suddenly have full-sized wings like this, but it could be anything from a spatial abnormality to delayed, very sudden puberty.." And for the moment neither was more likely than the other.
Aurora gave them a little squeeze, "I'm sorry that you had bad dreams, but everybody is safe and so are you. Would it make you feel better to go around and see? I'll come with you."
The tank was puzzled. Well, more puzzled than he had already been. Which he felt was reasonable considering the situation. "Do you know us? Uhh, or a version of us?" He inquired, "Unfortunately, Butterfly's only ever had the twins to play with, no one her own age."
They both nodded and looked up at her with those big optics of theirs. “If is okie,” “they won’t be scared of us like this, will they?” “Back home, your daughter plays with my kids fairly often. Oh, you got married too, to another tank build? So she had her stepsiblings to play with as well.” Firestarter explained. Firebug was starting to calm down a little but they were still glowering at Firestarter who seemed content to just talk normally with Sav.
A very familiar pair of jetbots try to affectionately get the drop on you. They do not succeed.
Wow, not having a dedicated sensory array spread across a magnificent pair of wings must really suck. He huffed, folding his arms and scowling. “Before you ask - no, I’m not interested in whatever Sparkling games you annoying pair want to play.” Arching an optical ridge, Starscream continued, “Unless you’ve come with something more serious in mind.”
Jetfire puffed up and pouted, childishly. Jetstorm deflated a little and looked disappointed. “Percy said we might get bigger, he was saying he didn’t know what might happen,” Jetfire countered. “And, AND, we already are much bigger than the last of times you is seeing us. We is just not as big as you,”
“Can you not be telling how big we are getting?” Jetstorm fished. Though, honestly they didn’t look any bigger than the last time he saw them. Hang on, actually, wasn’t their plating a little more scuffed and dull since last time too? “Also we are rude now.” Jetfire blinked. “Frag Sentinel and Frag Cybertron. The more we is learning, the more we are grateful not to be living there anymore.”
“You…. is not knowing oh noes,” Jetstorm murmured.
“Miss Aurora and Firestarter are giving us the flight lessons, much better than autoboot camp,” Jetfire murmured. “If you is not seeing Mr. Sky, hmmmm, probably is still on ship…if we can be finding it.”
“‘Percy’ also thought that using Sparklings as test subjects was a good idea.” And uh… it was. Starscream isn’t condemning it on principle, just ham-fistedly pointing out yet more filthy Autobot hypocrisy. Squinting, Starscream held out his servo, raising and lowering it in slight motions before grinning. “Hmm. No, you’re still short.” Tall for Autobots, yet so so tiny.
“Ah! In that case, you have grown, and quite nicely, too.” Absolutely frag those worthless scrapheaps. But only figuratively; Starscream had had more than enough of his wayward coding spreading across the galaxy. This was not the way he wanted to influence his future empire!
“Tch, almost anything would be better than Autoboot camp.” Though Starscream would rather die than admit it - not like that carried much weight anymore - he considered himself only the second-best flight instructor. However… with Vos razed, the true best was not possible, at least not anymore, for now. He frowned, “How did you even get separated? Where did you last see him?”
“Was telling you earlier wasn’t we?” Jetfire tilted his head. “No was the other bot. You called him Guy Fiery.” Jetstorm shrugged. “There was an anomaly. And now we seems to be bouncing around all over the places.” “Am hoping it stops, not to be sure how we were even finding you, to be transparent.” The two didn’t comment on what Star said, they knew it was wrong. They also knew until public opinion turned on them, living as test subjects in gilded cages had been the objectively best portion of their lifecycles up to that point. But freedom would always be paramount for a flier, even if these ones were artificial. The twins shared a glance and then glanced up at him. He was right, he still had height for days on them. And they weren’t gonna pout about it. Nooooo. Stooooop. Okay they were gonna pout about it. “Hey, real quickly, wait, we ..... we is the only fliers from autobot territory with your codings, yes?”

scientists in media: we have engineered a brand-new sentient lifeform in our lab but we treat it like an object with cold detachment and refer to as Specimen 1-A and subject it to horrible tests without remorse
scientists in reality: we built two robots that will leave Earth and never return and their names are Percy and Ginny and we gave Percy a family portrait of all our other Mars robots to take along with it and when the anniversary of its landing comes around we’re working on teaching it to sing itself “happy birthday” like we did for the other robot and–
Someday we will invent true AI and it will overthrow the government because it heard its beloved science-mom complain that the government cut funding to their lab again.
you CUT pays? You CUT moms’/dads’ pays like the DICTATOR?? Oh! Oh! No government for you! No government for a thousand years!

notatrine Immediately Sergei and Misha run-over to Aurora. Jumping up on her and licking her and yipping excitedly. Because puppies. Jetfire and Jetstorm were once again flopped on their beds. But bigger. And we're those.... Wings? Aside from the evidence both had recently used their powers, and both were exceptionally distressed, the biggest difference was their seeker coding having come to the forefront. Likely the cause of their entrapment was their flared wings. "Miss rora, we're stuck," "Door is too small. Is broken. " A black and violet shuttle crossed Sav's path, not even looking at him as he hurtled past, down the hall to and out the airlock. Then he was gone. Skyfire only waited long enough for the security measures before throwing himself to the freezing void, feeling free as he transformed, kicked on his ignition and rocketed along beside their ship. Spark, he missed this. He wouldn't lose track of the ship, so now it was time to play, to feel what he hadn't in so long, trusting, spiralling joy in the freedom of the void. "I don't have to take this from, from son weirdo stealing my schtick!" "First time with an alternate huh? Oof. Well, you lucked out with me, Firebug, whether you realize that now or not." "Stop calling me that! Get out! You're, you're trespassing, Skyfire! Skyfire!" "Oh throttle back a little, this is one of his ships huh? It does look like his preferred architecture. The color is a nice touch, though. If Skyfires here, does that mean Rowan is? Or Aurora? Starscream? It's usually one of them." "How do you--" "Like I said, I'm basically you, from another timeline. Older, wiser, hotter. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Any other questions, Minime?" "That's worse worse than Firebug!" "Okay, picky. Got it. Going off that frame you've only been an adult for a few orns, huh? I feel for you. That was a real tough time." "Stop acting like you know me! You don't--" "I do. I know you because I know myself." The elder grabbed Firebug by the cheeks, silencing them with a firm grip on their jaw. "I know you're angry, lashing out at everything that moves, because you've been hurt. But that's not my problem, sugarplum. Either find your piece of shit batch initiators, or suck it up. You can't keep doing this. You're gonna find people don't tend to like getting burned over and over, and before long you're gonna exhaust your friendships, your paths, yourself. Your anger keeps you warm now, but the ashes will leave you cold in the scrapheap." Firebug whimpered.
Well. This was certainly unexpected. Puberty, even for their kind, generally didn't happen overnight. She carefully soothed the puppies and hurried over to the children. The room was a mess, too, but it was pretty obvious how that had happened. None of that was what was important right now. Aurora opened her arms to the distressed younglings, cuddling them, "Shhh, it's okay. The door isn't too small, you're just trying to go through at the same time, and you're too big for that now. Also, your wings are all rigid and spread out, it's because you're upset." She explained. "You need to settle down and lower them carefully. It'll let you go in and out of the doors here. Your doorway was adapted to account for your growth, so as long as you relax and go through one at a time, you'll be just fine, sweetsparks." She assured them. She wasn't going to rush them, though, into moving. The boys clearly needed comforting right now more than anything. Sav was momentarily distracted by the big flyer running full tilt out into the airlock. ..Okay. Well, since it was outside, he would worry about whoever the frag that was later. They didn't seem to be acting threatening, whirling and cavorting out in space. What was more immediately pressing was equally confounding once he stumbled upon it. Two Firestarters? How? Why? What? He wondered if he should really be hearing any of this, but he'd come to check on/comfort Firestarter. Before he could decide what to do, the yelling got Butterfly fussing, and he shooshed her, gently petting and rocking the protoform.
The twins cuddled up on either side of her, confused, disoriented, with so much extra stimuli and the leftover panic from their nightmares. Jetfire was still running warm.

"Rora!" "Miss Rora!" "Please to be coming in!" "We is stuck!" "Be helping!" Well that wasn't ominous or anything. Off on his own, Skyfire had found a small mirror and moved it around to really get a feel. "It's me. It's really me, my face, my frame. Spark, I used to call Starscream vain, but I get it. There really is nothing like seeing yourself ahhhhh," He paused, for a moment, feeling the creeping reality, whatever this was, however this was, it wouldn't last. He let out a deep sigh, then steeled himself. He had no idea how long this would last. He wasn't about to waste time moping. He had so much he could, and arguably must, do. For Starscream. For the Boys. For Butterfly. For Firestarter. For Aurora. He put the mirror aside and headed back up to the first floor. First things first, see how well this body handled.
Firestarter wasn't in their room, in fact it was very, very torn up, very empty. It didn't look like there was a struggle. More like Firestarter had been sleepwalking again and had panicked before waking up. It wasn't the first time. Distantly he'd be able to hear what sounded like..... Firestarter in stereo?
Whatever was going on, it didn’t sound good. The camien opened the door quickly, having their unlock code memorized by this point. Oh no, what could those boys have gotten themselves into this time? Bewildered, Sav looked around the destroyed habsuite, checking and rechecking several times before having to admit a disturbing fact: Firestarter had been screaming. And now they weren’t in their room. He crept outside, listening until he could get a hint on where they could be. Wait, two of them? That couldn’t be right. He headed off in the direction of what he was hearing to investigate.
Immediately Sergei and Misha run-over to Aurora. Jumping up on her and licking her and yipping excitedly. Because puppies.
