interestingly, AI has helped me understand how i engage with creative work. to perform this activity, i no longer need human connection. therefore: what role did human connection play for me? and what's left?

of course, regardless of the tool i use, solo work such as writing will still connect me to myself, and my tool will still connects me to the labor, ideas and influence of thousands of people, which i stand upon.

still. i can ask myself: do i need to roleplay with someone else because it fulfills an emotional need, or because i want words on my screen? similarly, by producing a hundred images effortlessly, i can determine if what i wanted was to "own" or "have" a depiction of something, or a specific person's work. and when coding, by getting some or all of a program generated for me rather than making it myself as i normally would, i can understand whether i was seeking a functional result or something more, like a challenge or ability to practice my skills.

by essentially stripping my creative process to its bare minimum, i understand what i was getting out of it. i've always enjoyed giving up creative control, for example by trusting dice and procedural generation. i consider this a form of expression anyway, but now that i can delegate almost all creative tasks in this way, i can truly see which ones i absolutely don't want to delegate, the ones i'm particular about.

ok so this is another long shot but a few years ago there was a twitter post (in japanese i think?) that had measurememts for how to make this book stand thing out of cardboard that you could use to double up books and use up more space on shelves

back then i made a bunch of these but by now i lost the pic and dont know how to find the original post anymore

if it comes down to it i can just take one apart and get the measurements from there but i would be very grateful if anyone happens to have the original post or something similar??

don't mind how long it's been since i made this post, anyway i realized that i don't even need to take one apart to get the measurements when i can literally just unfold it and refold it /FACEPALM

so anyway here is the diagram for anyone else who is interested!!

this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together

and then in the end you put it together like this!!

and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy

Opening Instagram or similar algo hellscape to see the latest trending comic that reads like "as a spunky queer comics artist, AI makes me depressed. But I know that the soulless machine could never replicate the human uniqueness of my work!" and then feeling the irony of that statement settle over you as you scroll down and every few pages are served almost the exact same comic concept over and over again, except with minor style variations, and the spunky queer comics artist has a different set of pride pins and/or cutesily rendered pets in the backgrounds.

It wasn't long into my Tumblr usage before I learned how to recognize that kind of comic within 10-15 vertical pixels of seeing it on the bottom of my feed and instantly go warp-speed scrolling to get past it. I know Malcolm Gladwell is a hack and his books are garbage, but every time this happens I'm reminded that there is something to the thin-slicing Blink thing.
