Hope you enjoyed the teasers! I'll be disappearing again for a while, but as you can see, progress has been great. I'm still thinking it'll be roughly a year until release. (My alpha testers say it will be longer.)

Really getting my money's worth out of this free 3D program, so to speak.
I'm trying not to spoil the monster designs too much, but I have to share at least a bit, since this is most of the progress I've been making lately.

As you can see, I've made a lot of progress since you last heard from me. Only three monsters left, five pieces of background art, three [REDACTED], and then the cluster of endgame routes.
... And a lot of playtesting. A lot of playtesting.
And a soundwork idea that I haven't even started on yet. And nearly a hundred pieces of unlockable bonus art and writing.
But fuck it. Sure looks like we're close, right?

Being Your Own Art Director
To my delight and my exhaustion, making a game by yourself is hard.
It's hard because it's a lot of work for one person, and also because you have to wear a lot of different hats. Sometimes it's hard because the different jobs in game dev are supposed to push against each other, and it can be hard to push against yourself.
Normally, the tasks of artist and art director are split between multiple people. Not just to spread the work out, and not just because these are different skills, but because holding such different priorities in your head requires mental acrobatics.
An art director's job is to dictate a coherent vision for the entire scope of the game. The big picture, if you will. The art director guides the artist (the detail expert) in pursuit of this vision. Sometimes that means telling the artist to throw something out: not because that thing is bad, but because it isn't correct. It isn't coherent with the vision.
Being your own art director will occasionally mean looking at something you created — perhaps something you poured hours into — and telling yourself to throw it out. Not because it's bad. Because it isn't correct.
How do you love your work enough to create it passionately, yet remain willing to discard it?
When people think about the skills that go into making their own game, I find this one often gets neglected. It isn't easy to hold yourself to a coherent vision. It isn't easy to kill your darlings.
But it's one of the many challenges I fell in love with as I learned to make games. I hope someone reading this will fall in love with it too.
can we get a little update about the time of release? + respect for putting in so much work
A late 2026 release is possible. I'm a little nervous to say that because so far everything in this game has taken longer than I expected. But if not late 2026, then definitely some time in 2027. Barring some disaster in my real life, the game has less than a year left of development. Probably a lot less.
Rest assured that I'll be hauling ass as much as I can without compromising the game's quality. Once I'm feeling more confident about a release date, I'll loop you all in.
In the meantime, know that I appreciate every like, reblog, and ask. I appreciate every lurker who just looks at my posts. I truly feel so lucky to be working on this project, and I can't wait to share it.

I was very picky about the bar stools in the tavern, so I went ahead and modeled my own.
