You fear inadequacy. You crave the words, ‘you are enough for me.’

“Alex is no better than any of the other cops these days, you know that just as well as I do.” Her words held a bitter tone to them. He was the only authority figure she used to trust in the town, now she wasn’t sure if she could even trust him. He had barely questioned her since the incident; not that it was something she really wanted to think about, but surely it was necessary in order to further the investigation? Unless they relied on what little evidence they had found while she was still in the hospital.
She glanced up at August for a brief moment. “I know you want to help, but you can’t. I can’t even help myself — I’m tired.” She stopped herself before she said anything else. She was so tired of all these bad things happening, tired of not being able to hold on to a single happy moment. Every now and then she found herself asking the question; what if the young man had been successful? What if she had bled out before anyone found her that night? Would that really be so bad?
August understood her frustration. Felt guilty even for arranging with Alex that he’d not pressure her for answers before Blaire wasn’t at least halfway able to speak again. He thought, it would help her recover but obviously had been wrong all along. “Don’t say that.” He pleaded.
It scared him, seeing Blaire being tired of living after she’d almost died in his arms. “I need to tell you something. You may not like it, but I asked him to wait with the questions. I thought it to be too overwhelming because you couldn’t talk about who did this to you with me either.”
tillhumanvxices:
As August pulled her onto his lap, Blaire immediately moved her leg in order to straddle him and locked her arms around his neck. “Oh yeah?” She raised an eyebrow and dipped down to press another kiss to his lips. She had been craving his touch for as long as she could remember, but it was only when they reunited that they had actually dared to act on it
“Maybe tempting you is exactly what I’m trying to do.” she muttered before she let her kisses move from his lips, down to his jawline and neck. There was no question what intentions she had.
He left out a soft moan when she started to move against him. Feeling how his muscles become tighter, the more active Blaire was. August’s hands slowly moved over her back. One under her blouse to touch more of her skin, the other caressing the back of her neck until his fingers were tangled up in the woman’s hair when they kissed once more.
“You’re so good at it.” His voice was raspy and low when he answered against her lips. Almost demanding he locked his lips with her again, before he let her continue her journey while leaning his head back against the sofa.
tillhumanvxices:
Blaire couldn’t help but tense up ever so slightly as his fist met the frame. “Hey…Hey.” She reached out and touched his wrist before continuing. “Being angry about it won’t solve anything.” It wasn’t a very good advice, but it was the best she could give.
“I know you think there’s something more behind it, and I trust you - I do..” Brown eyes darted up to lock on his. “But I’m a little bit worried that maybe you’re a bit too obsessed with it – I’m scared you’re going to end up hurting yourself.” Or someone else. She understood his frustration and grief, at least to a point. She too had lost her mother; not in the way he had, of course, but she was often brought up in conversation when her father wanted to make a point.
August sucked on his bottom lip, paying attention and actually listening to his friend when Blaire took hold of his wrist. There was something in the way she looked at him. Was she afraid he’d hurt her? The last he would want was frightening her.
“I’m not obsessed. I just...” His voice slightly broke so August took a brief moment to get his feelings back under control before he continued. Eyes visibly moisturizing with tears. “I can’t believe that she’s not coming back. It can’t just be a simple accident.”
tillhumanvxices:
A bemused chuckle left her, one she only forced out in order to keep tears back. “They won’t bother. They might’ve bothered if I didn’t make it, but since I did..” She stopped herself. Simply finished the sentence off with a shrug. When did the police ever investigate anything in this town? People ended up dead or missing all the time; after a week or two it was all forgotten about. This wasn’t any different.
“How have I done so much more?” She glanced up at him, eyes glassy from the wall of tears that was slowly building up. “I can’t do anything without wondering what might happen. I barely function.”
“They will. Alex will bother, you know that. He’s just as sick of the ignorance as we are.” He slowly closed his fingers around hers, still leaving an option to pull them back if she wanted to while August caressed the back of her hand with his thumb.
“You survived, B. Of course you need time to get back on track. It’s okay to take that time.” He met her eyes, giving Blaire a warm smile. “I’m not going anywhere, if you want me to join you on that path. I’m not going to let them hurt you anymore. I promise.”

Blaire pulled the blanket around her small frame. “I don’t think I can do this anymore.” She muttered the words. After everything she had gone through in her life, and she’d never once felt so vulnerable, or so frightened. She hated the feeling, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t shake it.
She would get startled by anything and everything; be that a hand a little too close to her neck, or simply an unexpected voice. The woman who once appreciated and rather enjoyed life had lost the glimmer in her eyes. One would assume she would be even more appreciative now, considering what she had survived. But what good was it when Blaire couldn’t even go a day without thinking about what had happened, knowing that the person who had done it was out there, living his life as if nothing had happened.
“You’ve done so much more than any of us already.” He returned supportively as August knelt down before her, offering his hands for her to take before he would do the next step by sitting down next to her.
No matter what, it was clear to the man to leave their life up to her pace if needed. And it obviously was needed at the moment. “You’re not alone, B. They’ll find the person who did this to you.” August assured her. In his eyes she was still the most beautiful woman and he wanted her to know that the visible nor the mental marks that night had left wouldn’t change his view.

“Just a second.” It wasn’t easy for her to get a good night’s sleep anymore. It seemedlike whenever she closed her eyes, she could only see that dreadful night. Glimpses of Norman’s face as his expression shifted ever so slightly in the blink of an eye, the feeling of cold steel against her neck, only for a moment before her memory blurred. It was all she dreamed about these days; well, dream would be the wrong word, nightmares wouldbe more appropriate.
She had hidden herself away in the living room when August came through, not gettingany sleep at all was better than getting some, but having to relive that night over and over again.
August nodded past the barely moon-lit room, as their eyes met and picked up a light blanket from the sofa before he gently placed it around Blaire’s shoulders. “Mind if I join you?”
They’ve had made enough negative experience only a couple of nights before, when he woke her up from another nightmare so he made sure this time that she was able to watch his every step; especially his hands in constant eye sight of hers.
It was the least he could do at this point, he thought to himself while he hoped that Romero would be able to bring the person to justice as soon as he could without her testimony of the night, which had changed his girlfriend’s life forever.
I’ll never forget the way you look tonight… …The lady in red

The smell was all to familiar, as was the look in his eyes. If he was like any of the other users, he’d probably gotten his stash from the Ford business. “Because of this?” She motioned into thin air, but it was obvious that she was referring to the weed. “Or doesn’t he know about that?”
Blaire bit down on her lip before she let out a quick chuckle. “Well, I couldn’t just stand you up, could I?” She had thought about it though. Most boys had this amazing talent for being absolutely cruel. They’d ask you out or compliment you in some way, only for you to later find out that it was all a joke – or an attempt to get in your pants.
“That’s one of the reasons, yeah. He just caught me up here.” He laughed out and invited her to sit down on the big window sill with him as August did so. “We don’t agree on so many things at the moment. He seriously asked me about what my mother would think of it if she knew.”
He was so angry at the world since months - since they were told that his mom had a mysterious car accident - that he punched against the window frame before leaning against it. “How should I know? She died because he wasn’t able to pay the right people in time.” August didn’t believe a word of the sheriff’s explanation. It was just the easiest way to close the case.

“I don’t think your dad really likes me.” He had thrown her a disapproving look as he opened the door for her. In a way she could understand why, but at the same time she didn’t care much; she’d gladly let him think she was there to corrupt his son in any and every way imaginable. In all honesty though, she’d been nervous just to approach the house. Of course, her and August spoke quite a bit, but it was mainly during school, they never really made an effort to meet up anywhere.
Closing the bedroom door behind them, Blaire took in the sight of the space. She had decided to remain standing until he said otherwise. “You know, I almost thought you were joking when you asked me over.” She uttered the comment in a relatively playful manner, but her restless fingers told another story.
“Well, he doesn’t really like me either at the moment.” August gave back cheeky just before getting up from his bed. The air was still filled with the smell of weed, despite of the open window. The young man’s glassy eyes giving away the rest of having just finished smoking not long before she came over.
If he was honest, he’d only done it to become more secure or at least relaxed in Blaire’s presence. “Yeah, I wasn’t even sure you’d come.” A light smile curled up on his lips when he noticed her fiddling hands. As it seemed like, she was just as nervous as he himself had been.
Everybody lies

The girl startled Blaire more than she should have. Then again, one could assume that would be a natural reaction after what she had gone through. The incident was still fresh in her memory, and even worse, the person who had done it was still out there. It didn’t seem to be something the police cared to investigate much though, after all, she was only a teacher.
Blaire whipped around to face the young girl, she couldn’t blame her for questioning why she was there; after all, no one had been given a reason as to why Blaire wouldn’t be teaching. She opened her mouth to offer a reasonable explanation, but quickly shut it again as she wasn’t sure what an appropriate reply would be, or if it was even appropriate for her to say anything at all.
She didn’t have to try speaking up at all when August exchanged a brief look with her, assuring Blaire that no information about her whereabout would be leaving that place against her will, before he calmly turned back to his daughter.
“We can explain this, Clio. But I need you to promise that you’ll keep it a secret.” He started, ignoring the eye rolling as he placed his hands on top of the girls shoulders. “Alright, alright. I wont tell anyone.” The teenager shrugged off her father’s hands and walked past him towards the kitchen table. “So... Why and since when is she here Dad? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I wanted to.” August left out a soft sigh and ran a hand through his hair, leaning against the counter. “You’ve been too quick for me.” Relaxing as he saw the girl’s features soften, he gave Clio a light smile and continued telling her that they’d just brought Blaire to their place the night before. “There was an accident, which is why Miss Watson wont come back to school. It would be too dangerous for her to do it. The same goes for being alone, so I offered her to stay with us since we’re friends since we have been your age.”

She leaned back into the kiss for a moment before pulling away every so slightly to mutter against his lips. “Well, if you keep doing what you’re doing, I’m sure we’ll get the mood right back.” The faintest smirk tugged on the corners of her lips.
There was a reason she had invited him over in the first place after all, and it wasn’t to talk about their lives, or all the things that had happened after they grew up. It was simply how the scenario turned out. She didn’t dislike it by any means; it was actually quite nice, but she wasn’t opposed to it if he wanted to continue what he had come to do.
She had an easy way to make him want more, as Blaire pulled away after they just deepened the kiss. “You’re the tempting one.” He smirked back, sucking on her bottom lip before August pulled her over onto his lap.
It was almost surreal - whenever they were together - that they finally got to be this intimate after all this time that had passed since they went separate ways. Yet he fell in love with her all over again, though this time he wouldn’t be too shy to admit that.
tillhumanvxices:
“Well, I suppose kids will be kids no matter what.” In all honesty, seeing how most of them behaved on a daily basis made her grateful she didn’t have any of her own.
She remembered that he’d briefly mentioned his time overseas. She had barely left White Pine Bay in the 36 years. As much as she had wanted to, there’d just never been an opportunity. “You know, I was always a little bit jealous of you; the fact that you just took off like that. This town hasn’t changed one bit since we were kids.”
“Nah, no need to be jealous. There are not that many things I did that I’m proud of during that time. Aside from the one reason that made me want to stay clean.” He was clearly speaking of his daughter. It was more than visible how strong their bond was ever since he ended up being a single parent. “Well I basically had to otherwise Clio would have lost me too.”
August paused, wetting his lips as he pushed away those memories and leaned down to kiss her. “I’m sorry, I don’t want to ruin the mood entirely.”
tillhumanvxices:
“Well, at least I’d wake up knowing I enjoyed the night. Even if I didn’t remember exactly what happened.” She smirked up at him, gentle fingertips tracing small circles in the fabric of his shirt as she spoke. At least some of the things they missed out on back in those days could be revisited now, the enjoyable nights in particular. In fact, it had become a bit of a regular occurrence after he returned.
“Of course it was easier. The kids these days are vicious, and that’s just here in White Pine Bay. I can’t imagine what it must be like in the bigger cities.”
“Oh that’s a problem you’re encountering not only here, trust me. It’s basically the same all around the world, no matter how friendly the land is supposed to be according to propaganda.” He told her about the time he’s lived overseas, raising his daughter.
It felt nice spending time with his childhood friend again and just talk about stuff instead of only having a quick meeting for benefits. August saw how her eyes shone in a different way then. Like she was actually having real fun revisiting old paths together.
tillhumanvxices:
“Lets hope the weather holds up then. It might be good for her to go, she could get a little bit more integrated with the class.” She did understand, however, that it could be a bit difficult. Her students already had their cliques, and many of them weren’t known for being the most accepting people.
A chuckle left her. “Maybe if you been there to take me out, I’d actually be able to remember that night.” It wasn’t an understatement, she could barely remember her own prom night; as, she was sure, was the case for most of their year. She thanked copious amounts of alcohol, and the people who snuck it in for that.
“Too bad I missed that.” He frowned playful. “Or maybe not. I haven’t exactly been the best boy by that time already, who knows how much less we’d remember if I’d stayed.” And how much different their lives would have been.
“I agree though, as much as I appreciate Clio spending time with her grandpa, I’d like to see her becoming more social with the kids her age. As much as I remember we didn’t have this much trouble with it back then, did we? It was easier to make friends.”
