i would like to share something with you guys that nobody else in my life could appreciate quite to the extent that you all- you, who have spent years appreciating this man’s work an artistry alongside me- would. here it is:

so i just finished generation war and im completely dead inside :(((( how do u think life will be now for viktor charly and willhelm? :( i didnt think id rly ship charly and wilhelm but i do omg

i know i don’t rly use this blog anymore but– doesn’t mean im not up for friendly chatter! alright so DEFINITELY FEEL YOU ON BEING DEAD INSIDE. if it’s any comfort, we’re all in this together. this whole fandom has been Traumatised

and honestly i wish i could give them ALL happy endings but that just…. isn’t plausible anymore………….

actually, i recently rewatched umuv, and i feel like i wanna say a bit more about the ending (i know it’s been LITERAL ages sorry anon……….)

i really wish they’d shown more about wilhelm and charly. don’t get me wrong, i love viktor So Much and showing his experiences back in berlin was so important, but it felt like the other characters got way less resolution in comparison. not in terms of story, mind you- we have no idea what happens to viktor after that last bar scene either- but in terms of… their feelings i guess. i mean we know that charly died (in 2003 iirc?) and wilhelm is still alive at the point of the narration, but that’s it.

i can actually see it going both ways for the two of them. on the one hand, the combo of grief/survivor’s guilt (charly with greta/sonja/etc and wilhelm with friedhelm) could easily make them bond even more over that very unique trauma. on the other hand, it could just as easily manifest in ways that make a relationship nigh impossible. like, just because the love is there doesn’t mean the circumstances haven’t changed too much for it to be viable. what if they remind each other too much of the time before the war that they simply can’t get back anymore?

i realise that they left it ambiguous on purpose, but… i don’t know man. everyone looks so empty in the last scene ;-;

wilhelm: please do not fight wilhelm, for ur own safety. the strength of his jaw + his steely glare are enough to make the toughest of men cry without even laying a finger on u

friedhelm: u can fight him and he probably had it coming anyway. he’s small and he hates himself so throw a punch and he’ll most likely thank u for it later.
