I fully agree that masks should be worn whenever possible, i just wish masks weren't being treated like a commodity. like why can't we just.. IDK.. go to a pharmacy and show our health cards and get a box of masks at no charge to us, or something like that? (and yes, this should also include reusable masks. which are.. well, they frustrate me because I have yet to be able to find one that doesn't instantly slide down my face)

for anyone who lives in BC, AB, SK, or MB: London Drugs sells 2-packs of the mask extenders, which are a huge help in keeping masks from sliding down one’s face. (they also have an option to put any image you want onto a mask, which is a neat option for those who have to wear one every day and need some fun options.)

just like… isn’t it strange that it feels like hundreds of Sp*ngebob stans came out of the woodwork to trash Tony Shalhoub? I don’t even just mean the original Tweet: so many replies are “he didn’t even sing”, “that role wasn’t even that hard”, “it required no effort” from Sponge fans. even if the original Tweet were not OUTWARDLY problematic (which it, in fact, was), the fact that it encouraged a bunch of people, 70% of whom I’m sure have not seen or listened to TBV or else I firmly believe that they would not go around saying that the role of Tewfiq was easy, to start trashing an actor’s performance, is utterly ridiculous and reeks of subtle racism. 

it is also especially interesting that people are also expanding the argument to that Gavin Lee should’ve won (over Ari’el Stachel, which feels so utterly insane and tone-deaf, since it was impossible to miss the dozens of articles post-Tonys where Ari’el talks about how important and RARE it was for him to get a role as a Middle Eastern man that was not a complete stereotype). I do not mean in this in a rude way, but how UTTERLY unaware of the real-world impact of The Band’s Visit can you be to go around saying things like this? it is also interesting because these two men who are SPECIFICALLY getting called out are the first of their ethnicities to win these awards. does no one see a problem with everyone going around saying that white men deserved those awards more than them.

I guess what this is mostly revealing to me what I have known for a long time, which is that The Band’s Visit sweeping the Tonys was quietly hated by much of the Broadway fan community after it happened. the fact that hundreds of people responded to Wesley Taylor’s Tweet, saying things like “I’ve been saying this!” and blindly praising him make it clear that people have quietly been stewing about this for a while and now, because a literal professional Broadway actor has said it and thus “made it okay”, they think it’s cool if we all just trash one of the most important musicals… of the decade?

like I hate to sound like a melodramatic TBV fan but I really cannot emphasize how important TBV was for the Middle Eastern community. it stars Middle Eastern people, is about a group of Egyptians meeting with a group of Israeli Jewish people, and features all of its main characters speaking accented English along with their actual native languages. the music is directly inspired by its subjects. its music and book were written two Jewish men. I think we will be looking back at TBV for a long time as an incredibly revolutionary piece of work, and its winning of the Tonys certainly has something to do with how it’s going to stay in the history books. 

just like, how petty can you be to go onto Twitter and make a post directly calling out artists who you think do not deserve awards from TWO YEARS AGO. specifically targeting a show that was revolutionary for its creativity and its massive win at the Tonys, which makes it clear that Middle Eastern voices and stories CAN and SHOULD be put on display. who do you think you are.

My friend and I registered to vote on the same day, but I just found out that he never received his voters card when did. I tried the website, but I can't find anything to help him, and our local Services BC has been closed since last Friday. What can we do?

You don’t need a voters information card to vote.

As long as you have sufficient ID you can vote on Election Day.

i am disgusted by the news that amar ramasar, a known sexual abuser, has been cast as bernardo in the upcoming broadway revival of west side story. it’s sickening and infuriating (but unfortunately unsurprising) that producers/casting directors like scott rudin continually try to sweep things like this under the rug and clearly don’t care about sexual harassment allegations, nor about the victims. this casting decision perpetuates the silencing of victims and reinforces that men like ramasar can continue to succeed without facing consequences for their actions.
