Kaname throughout the series
''I've hurt Zero so many times. This must be my punishment'' These are Yuuki's thoughts at the opening of chapter 35 when she is getting turned back into a vampire by Kaname. I find her perceiving becoming a vampire as punishment curious because it is the only time we see her expressing the same kind of mournfulness that comes with being a vampire/pureblood(a recurring theme in VK).
The difference between Zero and Kaname is that Zero's protectiveness towards Yuki means preserving her freedom to do something perilous by staying in her shadow in case he has to step in as her human shield while Kaname's protectiveness means taking away her freedom to do said perilous thing.
Can someone please tell me what these scans are? Is it a new final project from Hino?
Ughh, since VKM is officially over, which absolutely closes the Vampire Knight saga, the fandom (which was already so small) has become completely nonexistent š. I wanna keep making posts and reading posts about Vampire Knight but everybody has left the ship and vanished
Ok but Zero having a gay (huntress) daughter makes perfect sense. It just fits his character so perfectly when you think about it. He was meant to be a girl dad to a lesbian daughter.
China v.s. West preferences for Vampire Knight ships (I've always wanted to talk about it)
This is my thesis only but I think one of the main reasons why Yume was far more popular in China while Zeki was the most popular ship in the West by a mile is because of the differences in narrative and cultural sensibilities. Chinese hold a general preference for fated love stories, stories centering destiny and the actualization of predestined path. So there is this idea of a destiny so great it finds you no matter the conditions by transcending any obstacles. They generally find the idea of a fate greater than oneself more compelling. (we can see major buddhist and daoists influences in these preferences with the idea of continuing karmic bonds through past and present lives, reincarnation, the red string theory(two people meant to be together will end up together, they are linked by a red string at their ankles, etc.)
This is very much in contrast with Occidental narrative preferences where people in the West prefer love stories (even stories in general actually) about TRANSCENDING destiny and pre-determined circumstances, going beyond a preordained path and CREATING your own destiny. Western viewers tend to find romantic fictions that subvert a greater force above them, favoring self actualization and defining one's own path and meaning through sheer power of will. It's heavily influenced by existentialist philosophies (i.e. ''Existence preceeds essence'')
All this and also Westerners preference for the underdog lol
Now I don't need to mention why Yume and Zeki pretty much fit to a T each narratives respectively cause it's pretty obvious.

hot
Hino mentioned that Yuki was 16 y/o and Kaname 18 y/o in arc 1 in human years (not ancestor years). Now I don't need my math degree to understand that Kaname was definitely NOT 7 y/o when he brought Yuki to Kaien when she was 5. He looked to be at the very least 12 or 13 y/o. Now I know Matsuri Hino doesn't really care about consistency but this seems like a big plot hole. Has this already been answered?
Please can you post several scenes for zeki š„¹š„¹š„¹
Just saw your message, I'll be posting them
Zero and Yuki definitely do Hunter/Pureblood psychological roleplay in bed and you can't convince me otherwise.
Now that VKM is over
Whether you shipped yume or zeki or kanezero, what are y'all watching or reading?
Ngl, after the initial shock of this weird ass ending, I just keep laughing at the last two panels. The way they both just vanish. I just imagine baby Yuki thinking ''damn, all this, these 1000 years of research to resurrect you, me sacrificing myself, all of this for us both to die on this chair. I guess this is really how it ends''
Am I the only one who's not really a fan of Hino's current art style? The faces look so pointy and delicate but not in a good way. Also the proportion of the faces look a bit off. I think her drawing style was peak during the first half of the second arc of the first manga (Vampire Knight) (I am excluding the last half of the second arc because it looked rushed and sloppy often times).
Hi! I was going to reblog one of your posts, but Iām not in the mood to start a war with the ship that must not be named lol. I read your post about Hino's inability to address the elephants she creates (which I completely agree with ā and the Yume relationship is toxic, even if Zero had never existed), but after reading the entire manga without any emotional bias, I honestly think Yuki is toxic too, even if itās not intentional.
Take the scene where she finds out Kaname was responsible for the death of Zeroās parents and everything else. Yuki just cried, but it didnāt change her perception of Kaname at all. Hino even builds the Yume ship around two premises: eternity and the idea that Kanameās sacrifice forgives everything heās done. But in reality, Kanameās situation is more about taking responsibility for the awful things heās done than about some innocent self-sacrifice.
Hino clearly wants to frame him as someone who sacrificed himself, but for many of us, he spent a long time manipulating people, causing the deaths of innocent people, and now, yes, heās owning up to it ā but only now. Yet for Yuki ā and considering that Yuki represents Hinoās voice ā Kaname is basically seen as this poor, tragic figure. When in fact, everyone in the series has suffered in some way and still chose to deal with things without manipulating people or acting like āthings must go my way.ā
Another thing that bothers me about Yuki is her constant immaturity. Even her daughters are portrayed as more mature and adult than she is. Itās like sheās a girl who never really grew up. Hino doesnāt balance sweetness and innocence well, and ends up creating a weak character.
And finally, to be honest, Hinoās core premise is: Kaname sacrificed himself, so the debt is paid, all is forgiven. Yuki can return and they can be happy. Her reasoning is very simplistic. I think her original intention was to show that āif you want to hurry, go slowly,ā which could suggest that Kanameās actions lead nowhere ā but she canāt stick to that message. Basically, she always has an excuse for Kaname, and whatās curious is that her intention ends up being the opposite of how normal people perceive things ā people who understand that some actions arenāt love, theyāre actually a form of emotional dysfunction.
You've pretty much said everything. The thing which really annoys me in fictions and Hino uses that throughout the whole series is to use love as a moral purifier. It is such a cheap plot device. Love is not intrisically pure in itself. Love is evil and ugly and twisted all the time in life. Love can lead to goodness, love can lead to prosperity, it can also lead to destruction and evil. But love is not the resolution in itself which Hino claims in the story. It does not absolve moral wrongs. ''Kaname did this for me so it's fine'' is basically Yuki's answer which is wild. And Zero accepting this is even more wild. Imagine for a second if your best friend stood by your abuser and family anihilator's side lol.
Also the way Hino tries to frame Kaname as this ultimate martyr is very strange to me because literally half the characters in this series has faced serious trauma and loss. I mean take Zero, he's had his parents murdered in front of his eyes as a child, he was turned into a level e (or forcefully put on the path at least), his twin brother betrayed him only to be sacrificed later, the only friend in his life (Yuki) was revealed to be some kind of ''lure''. Basically his whole life was toyed with, nothing was real, every aspect of his life was fabricated. Yuki also had her parents killed and had her memories erased. Half the vampire hunters had a loved one violently killed. I fail to understand this focus with Kaname's turmoil being painted as this big tragedy.
Tbh I haven't read memories cause I quickly got fed up with hino's storytelling so I can't comment on Yuki's maturity in the sequel.
All I can say is that Hino could not commit to Yuki's character. She wanted to stay coherent with Yuki's characterization while keeping yume's love story intact which was never possible. To stay coherent she either had to sacrifice Yuki's moral integrity to keep yume intact or she had to sacrifice yume's love to keep Yuki's moral virtue intact. But she wanted to have her cake and eat it too so we got this whole mess of a plot resolution.
Sorry if my whole rant/answer is a bit all over the place. English is not my first language!
