"You’ve been my neighbor for most of the year, you know I’m not nice. Why would I want to help strangers that are probably assholes anyway?" Quinn whispered back, not wanting to deal with the girl anymore. She had her reasons and she wasn’t about to list them to someone she barely knew. So not her style. "Why don’t you go find your Robin somewhere else? I’m not going to be your little helper." she opened the door to their building and started going up the stairs. Damn elevator was always broken.

"Not everyone are assholes," Rachel said, trying her best not to let her annoyance show in her voice. Following the blonde up the stairs, she pushed down the sense of guilt that started within her at Quinn's words. "I'm not asking you to be my helper. I'm asking you to be..." A partner wouldn't buy the girl over. "Be a better you. By beating the real assholes."

"Will you lower your voice?" her hand caught the girl’s arm and moved her out of the store and towards their building. Ok, so maybe she had been talking low enough for only Quinn to hear, but someone could listen in on their conversation. She didn’t need that. She also didn’t need someone bugging her. "I am a normal person. I want a normal life. Nothing special. 9 to 5 job. Watching tv and reading books. Not having you around to tell me what I have to want."

"I'm already whispering," she clarified, and took another glance around them to make sure. Quickening her steps to keep up with the taller girl, Rachel replied, "Are you sure? You can still keep your 9 to 5 job, and have another life after that. One where you get to help others make theirs better." She sped up a little and moved ahead, stopping in front of the blonde. "I'm not telling you what to do. I'm just making a suggestion, which I really, really hope you'll take," she said. An idea passed her mind and she perked up, grinning as she added, "How about you join me for a night? I'll show you what you're missing out."

Quinn smirked, knowing now for sure that her neighbor was a freak. Not like she had any doubts before. Her eyebrows rose higher and made a move to leave, she didn’t need to hear it. She knew what Rachel was about to say and she would deny it. Rinse and repeat until the other woman got tired and moved on.

"Look, I don’t know what you think you know or what you think I do, but I’m not interested. I’m a normal person living a normal life. Can’t you just say thanks and move on?" she said sidestepping her and walking towards the front of the store. A part of her knew the other girl would follow her.

Just when Rachel thought her neighbour couldn't get more frustrating, the blonde managed to sidestep her to make her way out. Refusing to admit defeat, the shorter girl hurried behind her. "But you're not a normal person," she kept her voice low so only Quinn could hear her, "You're extraordinary. And you don't have to have a normal life. Think about all the things you can do for the world! You can make it a better place for everyone. Don't you want that?"

Her eyebrow shot up at her affirmation. “Yeah, but what lunatic would train to do it if they weren’t cops? Some other weird hobby you want to tell me, neighbor?” she teased trying to make the girl in front of her give up. Also not to get distracted with her closeness. It wasn’t a secret Quinn had a weakness for pretty girls and Berry was pretty. Crazy, yes, but that was another thing. “I don’t know what you’re implying, but I don’t like it.”

"It's not weird, it's--" Rachel stopped herself before she could reveal more. But it was too late. Mentally berating herself for speaking before she could think, she tried to muster a serious look, and appear unamused at her neighbour's teasing.

"I know that you know what I'm implying, but for some reason you're just unwilling to admit it. But it's okay. I can keep secrets and I can help you, alright? I know what you're going through. It's a huge responsibility to be granted such abilities. I understand."

Being dragged around like a ragdoll was not something Quinn usually let other people do, but she wasn’t about to cause a scene. It was her usual supermarket and she wouldn’t be kicked out because of her neighbor. Quinn put her hands on her hips and looked at the girl, her eyebrows shooting up. She really hoped she hadn’t seen what she had done. It was impossible for her to know what she had done. Unless she could do something similar. “I’m not a cop, I don’t train to convince people out of robbing stores.” she answered in a bored tone. “And what should I exactly know? That he was going to do it? Because I ain’t a with that can see the future.”

The defensive stance the blonde took was a little intimidating, but it didn't deter Rachel from stepping closer. She had dealt with criminals who looked far more menacing than this girl in front of her; it just wasn't fair how Quinn was still able to look so pretty despite-- Shaking her head, Rachel focused on the issue at hand and replied, "Theoretically speaking, you don't have to be a cop to convince people out of committing any crimes." Recalling the strange look Quinn had earlier when she was speaking to the robber, Rachel avoided her neighbour's gaze-- it was better to be careful until she got a clear picture of how her powers worked. "You can hypnotise people, or brain-wash them, can't you?"

Quinn shrugged one of her shoulders, her attitude never changing. “I just talked him out of it. He didnd’t seem too sure of what he was doing.” she said looking away. She was obviously not about to tell her about her ability. She wasn’t even sure why she had used it. She never did, it was better. She had suffered enough because of it and wouldn’t go through that again. Ever. “It’s not that we aren’t close, it’s that we’re just neighbours. But thanks, I guess.”

Rachel was sure the only way she could get it out of her neighbour was to call her out on it. She didn't blame the blonde for being guarded of course, but the taller girl could definitely use some help with keeping herself and what she could do off the radar. Before Quinn could react or protest, Rachel took her by her arm and dragged her to a corner of the market where it was less crowded. Glancing around to make sure there weren't any potential eavesdroppers, Rachel turned back to the girl. "Alright, I saw what you did back there," she lied in a lowered voice-- she didn't exactly see what Quinn did, but she was sure her guess was a hundred percent right. "How long have you known about it? Have you been training?"

Turning around she found her neighbor Rachel Berry looking at her, and talking to her. It wasn’t that she hated the girl, she didn’t, it was just that they had never talked beyond pleasantries. But there she was, all smiles and asking about her well being. Quinn hoped she hadn’t seen a thing, nothing different or strange. Some people did have a sixth sense for weird stuff.

"I’m fine, it’s just all the adrenaline." Quinn said straightening up and giving the other girl a reassuring smile. "Coming down to buy groceries and finding oneself in the middle of a robbery isn’t fun." she added trying to sound a bit scared. She guessed she did a good job of it, she was a pro at lying.

"I didn't think that would be fun either." Unless you've superpowers, which I'm sure you have. "I'm glad you're alright. What did you do to make him leave anyway?" Rachel's mind raced for possibilities from what she had observed earlier. Hypnosis, or mind control, probably. Imagine the things they could accomplish together. Rachel smiled, perking up immediately at the future of having a sidekick. It was something she had always wished for. Not that she'd actually need one of course, but all superheroes seemed cooler with one or two. "I know we aren't exactly close or anything, but you can tell me. We might have more in common than you would expect."

Quinn, hands still up in the air, got closer to the guy trying not to pay attention to the fact that he was armed. She was speaking softly, reassuring statements leaving her mouth. The guy seemed to trust her and that’s when she touched his hand. That was all she needed to get a glimpse of his mind. She couldn’t see it all, but it was enough for her to be able to take control like she always did.

"You don’t want to do this, Robert. What you want to do is go back to your place and get rid of this gun. You want to stop stealing places, be a good man for your kids." she said with confidence. The man repeated everything after her, and then turned around and left with a glassy look on his face.

Quinn was not that tired, but still rested a bit against the closest shelve. She wasn’t used to changing someone’s life, just someone’s mind. It was probably too much for someone who didn’t use it that much.

Her brows furrowed further in her attempt to read the blonde's lips and her expression. Quinn seemed to be reasoning her way out, but there was something in her gaze that hinted more to it. When the man finally turned, Rachel saw his face, and a look was enough to confirm her doubts-- there was definitely something off about him after what Quinn told him. Her eyes flicked back to the girl, who was now leaning against a shelf. Then it clicked. She wasn't the only one with the gift.

Rachel closed the distance between them, and greeted her neighbour with a bright smile. "Hi, Quinn! What a surprise to see you here. Are you alright?"

Of course, the one time she went to the freaking local market it had to be robbed. Just her luck. And she actually knew one of the other people there. Still, she wasn’t about to get shot. She wanted to keep her habilities a secret, but she doubted anyone would realize what she was doing and she was close enough to the guy. She could give it a try. With that in mind, she took a step closer to him, her hands in the air as if to say she was harmless. She really wasn’t.

The market. That was where Rachel Berry was on a day off work. Of course, she could have stayed home to work more on her vocal skills, but there was another talent of hers that needed to be honed. Besides, there's always someone who needed to be saved. Walking down the aisle, she glanced around, keeping an eye out for suspicious activity. It was then she saw it happen. And the blonde... It was none other than her neighbour, Quinn Fabray. Quickening her steps, she made her way towards the pair, ready to render her help. But Quinn seemed unfazed. She frowned and watched on, curious as to what the girl would do next.

Plot:

Rachel Berry was supposed to be living in New York, performing on Broadway and probably winning awards. Instead, she’s a volunteer at Lima General. Her daddy Leroy fell ill right before she graduated and, not wanting her dad to leave his job, she went back home to take care of him. It was cancer, but he was able to recover. Still, Rachel fears leaving them and so she stayed.

Quinn Fabray had it all, or well, she had a good job and that was it. She was a publisher, which was her dream job, and earned well. She didn’t have time for personal relationships and she’d been disappointed by everyone so she felt like she didn’t need them. Nothing changed when she was diagnosed with liver cancer. She kept on with her life, her job, and didn’t get a treatment. Who would miss her, anyway?
