TROOP ZERO

I've been meaning to watch this one for a while, It seemed good, had a good cast but honestly, I wasn't expecting to be this good and I definitely didn't expect it to make me cry, It's been a while since I've cried watching a movie and it's been a while since I felt the need to immediately write about a movie as soon as I've done watching it, but I think people need to see this movie. It's beautiful, special, has some great songs, it also made me laugh a lot and I'm still wondering were the hell people find such talented kids? I’m honestly enchanted by them. Directed by two women, this incredible movie talks about the beauty of being different and although it is not the first movie to do that - far from it - it does an amazing job and it's always good to have a great movie showing kids that's it's okay if you are not like the others and you'll always have a friend to go through embarrassing situations with and that will stand up for you, I felt like I was a child again watching this and... Hell-no is an angel and I love her. Also. FEMALE DIRECTORS EXIST! THEY’RE NOT A MYTH! WATCH AND SUPPORT MOVIES DIRECTED BY WOMEN!

I’ll rate this one 11/10 because it’s my blog and since I’m not really a critic I make the rules around here

ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYOOD

I'm not really a fan of Tarantino, I like his movies alright but... not really a fan, but this movie really got me and I'll tell why, first let me warn you that it might contain spoilers (I'll try to keep it most spoiler free as possible but be warned).

Okay. Let's first talk about the cast, Margot Robbie is great on this movie, I love her. Could I have started talking about Leo? No. I couldn't sorry, he's great but Margot has my heart. And Sydney Sweeney Seems to be in everything now I'm??? Not complaining thought, she's great! Keep putting her in everything (I'm still mad everything sucks was canceled), noow talking about Leo, incredible acting, I love him in this movie, and it also have a lot of other great names on it like Dakota Fanning, Brad Pitt, Luke Perry (r.i.p), Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, MAYA HAWKE!! and a lot of other great actors, so yeah, the cast as a hole is amazing. The movie starts... Well... Slow. I really didn't know what I was expecting but. Not that. So. I was a little disappointed at the beginning (people who loved the movie and are leaving now please bare with me), but I do have to say that even if it was beautiful and I appreciate how much history it has, and as always, Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate gave a whole new soul to the movie. So, people who loved the movie and are still here: I was disappointed. Until we reach the end. That's were it got me. I normally think the movie can't be that great if only parts of it are great but man. The end. Got. Me. I stayed with my mouth open even we the credits started. What the hell was it??? It seems like they were building it all too Just throw it out in our faces. It was incredible I honestly have no other world for it and also, I love how they made Maya Hawke just ran off in the end like, to protect her from all the violence that was coming and who can blame them. So resuming the movie, every time we thought something big was going to happen. It doesn't. And people who knows what happens to Sharon Tate were definitely NOT expecting that end. They tricked us and I respect them for that. Honestly, it was a great experience, and of course, it had to have some nazis being burned. That’s lovely.

Also! honorable mention to the doggo and the kiddo, they were great.

I'll rate this 9,5/10 it took me by surprise and I really didn't expect what was coming so. I loved it.

Some curiosities:

2019 is Sharon Tate’s 50th death anniversary;

Charles Manson does have a little cameo at the movie and the actor (Damon Herriman) is also plaing him on season 2 of Mindhunter;

And my favorite so far, it’s more of an easter egg:

The name of Cliff’s wife is revealed to be Natalie. And in the movie they show us a little flashback were she might have drowned and it might be a reference to Natalie Wood’s (the star of west side story) death.

MATILDA

I recently realized that, Matilda is a really comforting movie. I grew up watching it with my sister (I gave the book to her a christmas gift, and I should really read it too) and it became a very special movie to me. In terms of effects, it might not be the best but it's a 90's movies so, no one can really expected much in those terms and it definitely doesn't make it a bad movie. As a kid who’d read a lot (and still do) Matilda was simply magical to me, It was awesome seeing a girl so like me and I hope movies nowadays are giving the kids the same feeling Matilda gave to me. It's unbelievable how comforting that movie is and I never noticed. From the beginning it is touching, funny, the story is amazing and Matilda is an awesome protagonist, the fact that since she was an infant she had to look out for herself is really fucked up and it does also happen in real life too, and the worse is that in real life kids don't have power to help through it, but at the end, she finds happiness with miss Honey and I like to think it gives hope for kids in the same situation as her that they will find happiness too. I had a great time watching it again and I think is a movie everyone (kids mostly) should watch.

I’ll rate it 8/10 because, well, it’s not the best movie. But it’s comforting, it’s my childhood and it’s great

Some curiosities:

Agatha Trunchbull was played by Pam Ferris. She obviously acted mean and nasty during filming, but she acted the same way off camera so the children would be genuinely scared of her on-screen AND is also the same actress who played auntie Marge in Harry Potter; The painting of Magnus in the Trunchbull’s house is actually a real life portrait of Roald Dahl, the author of Matilda before it became a movie; Mara Wilson (Matilda) said that the death of her mother (who was diagnosed with breast cancer during filming) caused her to lose her passion for acting. Since Matilda, she's only appeared in a handful of television shows and movies.

CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE

I honestly love this movie (can I end the review here? jk). It has everything: the cast, the songs, everything is so beautiful. I mean, you can't expect something with such amazing actors to go wrong (sorry, I can think of a few movies with an amazing cast that went wrong but that's for another time) but man. I can watch this movie a hundred times and I won't be sick of it. Steve Carell never fails to make me laugh, and I just... Get lost in Emma Stone's eyes... I mean... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and Julianne Moore as her MOTHER? That was a perfect casting choice. And Emma and Ryan as a couple is just everything, they have a really good chemistry and I would have to write a whole review only about the dirty dancing movie because that is cinematic poetry. I love rom-coms and even if this movie is more the comedy party than the romance... The second one is really strong in there too and I love that, I love how they showed how love can change, separate and do crazy, stupid things with people, but I also really liked the hope they gave to the couples in the movie, showing us that even if things seems messed up, they can work it out. Somehow. And that's a beautiful message the movie brings.

I’ll rate this movie 8,5/10 because even if I do love it, I don’t think it’s a 10/10 but that’s just my opinion, who cares.

Some curiosities:

The Dirty Dancing lift between Gosling and Stone wasn’t actually in the script! Gosling, who used to do ballet, had the idea and they added it in;  They had to use a body double for the Dirty Dancing scene because Emma Stone had a phobia of being lifted high up; Gosling and Stone had natural chemistry in the film. For the scene where Hannah and Jacob lie in bed all night talking, the filmmakers threw away the script, gave Stone and Gosling some drinks, and let them improvise the whole thing. The filmmakers would shout out scenarios and the actors would just make up stories.

YOU’VE GOT MAIL

I love the plot of this movie. It’s so interesting and cute, but I have to admit that I wasn’t really rooting for them. Because... well, everything he did to her and her cute small business just ruined him for me. Not only because she was the one he was exchanging emails all along -  and about that, what are the odds right?? - but because he could have started his bookstore anywhere else!! And also, the fact that he made her think her virtual boyfriend had just left her there all alone at the restaurant was just... horrible. I know that they hated each other and all that and the movie would probably had been really short if he’d let her know right there but. I don’t know, I’ve already been stood up so. I know how bad she must have felt. And she didn’t deserved feeling that way, that character deserved everything in the world. But I did liked how he and their relationship changed through the movie and I support a good character development so I’m not entirely mad about the end of the movie.

I’ll rate this movie 8/10 because she could do better  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Some curiosities:

Meg Ryan didn’t have a computer before the movie and she worked in a real bookstore to prepare for the role;

The scene were the balloon gets stuck on the door was improvised;

The movie is actually inspired by the 1937 play Parfumerie, about two coworkers who are unknowingly pen pals.

THE CHILDREN’S HOUR

Since it's pride month's last week I'll post an wlw this week

I have a lot of feelings about this movie, it has one of my favorite actresses, Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine which I also like. The movie is really good, all black and white, really interesting plot, a tragic end, children being awful, it's really great.

After I watched that movie I was wondering how difficult it must have been at the time for them to make lgbtq movies, and I think the movie really represented how being a woman in love with another woman was like at that time and if today a lot of people still suffer with homophobia (internalized homophobia too), must have been really hard at the time.

I'm really grateful to all of the lgbt who fought so we wouldn't have to be scared or ashamed of who we are nowadays, and how now the representation in media is getting bigger, but for a movie of 1961 I think they did a pretty good job bringing out this tragic story.

I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO WARN THAT THE MOVIE MIGHT HAVE TRIGGERS SO BE SAFE

I'll rate this movie 9/10 because it's pride month and the movie is really good

Some curiosities: It was Audrey's last black and white movie; The director removed some scenes that might insinuate Shirley's character homosexuality because he was scared the movie wouldn't get approved to exhibit; It is based on a play from 1934 and Keira Knightley and Elisabeth Moss stared in a 2011(if i’m not mistaken) version.

CRAZY RICH ASIANS

I’m a person who normally doesn’t like the main character, I love a good side character who the writers doesn’t give a shit about, but I have to say, Rachel Chu is an angel, she’s not boring at all (like I found must main characters), the main couple has a good chemistry, they cute and Nick is... sweet. I don’t have much to complain about him, COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER, but he's nice. The plot of Nick’s sister is also pretty good, and those 5s where Harry Shum Jr appears??? Gave me life, I love him. I loved the whole plot of the movie, it's aesthetically beautiful and it's a great to watch with your family (I say by experience) and it's just great, his mother is the perfect antagonist and she is just gorgeous. But man... can i just say that Awkwafina was the best thing in the movie? She is so funny, and she made the whole movie better, I loved her character and her scenes with Ken Jeong (who is also very funny) cracked me up. In conclusion: Although awards are not everything and it doesn't define if the movie is good or bad, I think Crazy Rich Asians deserved to win more ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it's a great movie, it's funny, beautiful and light, and it’s just great. My rating for this movie: 10/10 I really have nothing to complain, I loved it Some curiosities I found: The author of the book (which I have to read) made a little (very little) cameo in the movie; Awkwafina admitted she wanted to steal the wig she wore; It is Henry Golding's first movie.

ROCKETMAN

A fact that you have to know about me is that I LOVE musicals. From West Side Story to Sweeney Todd, I love them all. So when I heard they were making a movie about Elton John’s life?? I HAD to watch it, and today I finally have been able to, and boy... it was more than I expected. From the beggining I already knew the movie would be great, the first number was marvelous, I loved the colors in it and little Reggie? Just so cute, I just wanted to give him a hug. Seeing his relationship with his family was just amazing, because I know how family can have an impact in you (and how toxic that impact can be) and I loved how he dealt with that at the end of the movie, his grandma was the best thing, I love her. The acting is so good, i mean, when he was singing “your song” I could feel everything both Elton and Bernie were feeling from just the way they looked at each other and what about Richard Madden?? I love him, he is an amazing actor and HE CAN SING, I really got breathless when he started to sing, just... amazing. And Bryce Dallas Howard, as always, incredible. I didn’t know Taron Egerton and i’m happy I know him know, he did an amazing job playing Elton John and I really liked his voice. All of the numbers were just magical in some way (my favorites being: Your song, Honky Cat, I Want Love and Rocketman) the colors, the dancing, everything made it feel magical and I loved how in some of these were most of the cast singing and not just the main character and the last song just made me feel like I could face everything, all of the numbers made me feel something and I think the movie is good when it makes you feel things so: Rocketman is an amazing movie and everyone should go see it. (is it too early to have a oscar favorite? because I have mine.) I will rate this movie 10/10 because it’s pride month and because i liked it, that’s it. Some curiosities I’ve found:  Rami Malek almost had a cameo as Freddy Mercury; Taron Egerton is the one singing (and I found this amazing); Tom Hady was cast originally and he was going to lipsync the songs.
