Korean Quasimodo and Esmeralda on tv
Which version do you prefer? (even if it's not accurate)
Oh boy, this is one question I still don't know how to answer properly. I will just start by saying that I don't think any of the versions is loyal to the book as I, being a hardcore fan, would've wanted them to be. If I go into dissecting all versions scene by scene there are plenty of flaws with all of them and of course there are good parts too. However, I will avoid this very very long and tedious analysis and straight away get to my preferred version. It is the 1956 one with Gina Lollobrigida and Alain Cunny. 1923 version is also very close to this one for me. But there is a narrow distinction that makes the 1956 one better for me. I will discuss this whole comparison thing in a long post one day (hopefully soon).
Hey, are you not active anymore? Used to love your blog, miss your posts. I saw a wonderful video in youtube with fancasting of Deepika as Esme and Alan Rickman (RIP) as Frollo, you should search for it and perhaps even share. It goes by the title "tu vas me détruire | esmeralda + frollo" and the creator is Mina le Fay on youtube. You should totally watch it, Deepika as Esmeralda would be a dream come true, she is one of the prettiest actresses I have ever seen! Hope you like it!
Hey, yes I am sorry for being gone for so long and aww i miss talking to you all about Notre dame de Paris related stuff too. It has been long since I did that with anyone really. And woah really? A video like that exists? I need to check it out ASAP and DUHHH I WILL LIKE IT HOW CAN I NOT? I love and miss Alan Rickman so much I just probably will tear up watching and imaging him as Frollo and Deepika has always been my one of my favorite Esmeraldas in hypothetical castings so yes I will check it out right now and let you guys know about my thoughts on it.
Hey, how are you? Missed your posts a lot! Everything all right? Hope you are well! Xoxo
Heyyy, I am sorry for being MIA for so long. I have just been crazy busy with college and other personal stuff. I’ll try to be more active now (no promises tho since my senior year at college is going to start soon). Anyway, its good to know that people miss my posts and presence here haha. Everything is fine thanks for asking, I hope you and the rest of the fandom is doing good too! xx
Elhaida Dani as Esmeralda. singing Vivre at Moscow’s Kremlin Palace. I like her voice too, its soft and emotive but I like Hiba’s more. Just a personal choice. They are both really good choices according to me.
Fun Fact Elhaida was sent a flowers bouquet after this performance by the Russian Prime minister.
Yep. When you play Esmeralda you gotta be prepared for all that male attention. hmmm (Somewhere Frollo is seething hehe)
A rare capture during the Belle song sequence during the Original cast Italian tour of the Musical.
Phoebus: Graziano Galatone
Esmeralda: Lola Ponce
Elhaida Dani played Hiba Tawaji’s understudy in the newest (not so new) tour of the musical in various different countries. I think she is very well suited to the role of Esmeralda. She's pretty, charming and has a naive look to her. I will post videos of her performing as well so her acting and singing abilities I will talk about then but overall I don't think she's bad at all for an understudy.

Hiba Tawaji singing Esmeralda’s fiesta fun intro song ‘Bohemienne’ during the London tour 2019.
(I really like her voice a lot)

Daniel Lavoie singing the hauntingly beautiful ‘Tu vas me detruire’ during the London Tour 2019
This is beautiful. One guy is playing all three roles- Quasimodo, Frollo and Phoebus. The girl playing Esmeralda is also really gorgeous!
hello! do you know where we can purchase the new 2k17 dvd of nddp?
https://www.amazon.fr/Notre-Dame-Paris-2017-Live/dp/B071V6M1Q5
Check this link out. Maybe you can purchase it from here.
Brace yourself all nddp fans out there! THIS IS A TRAILER OF THE ACTUAL 2017 FRENCH REVIVAL DVD WE ARE GOING TO GET SOON.
It has been ages a live dvd of the musical was produced so yeah I hope all this wait would be worth it when we see the whole show with better production values and a new touch to it this time.
Hi! I'm (clearly) a devoted fan of NDDP and it's adaptations. I love your blog and musings on the various performers. However, I'm really bothered by your use of the g*slur. While it is not considered a slur by many people, it has always been used as a way of subjugate and injure Romani people (I'm perfectly willing to provide research). Would you be willing to stop using the g*slur in your posts? I know it's used in many productions, but that does not diminish the harm in the word.
I am sorry if it was offensive to you or any other people who might have considered it as a racial slur. I, by no means, had an intention of hurting anyone’s feeling by the use of that particular word. However, that specific word is used by all the productions of NDDP which includes the movies, operas, musicals and everything else including the original book. I don't think it is considered ‘inappropriate’ or ‘racially offensive’ in the context of NDDP by anyone or else the use of the word wouldve been abandoned by the educated and responsible people adapting NDDP and making great productions. Thank you for voicing your concerns.
I actually loved the new costume for Fleur-de lys. It shows more of a delicate and smooth work. And also the many layers of fragile fabric added for the detailing just kind of reflects her status as a noble girl with a proper wardrobe. I honestly never liked the old costume at all, it was ruddy and rough and more gypsy like and one complaint i had with costumes of the show was of Fleur’s costume but i am glad in this new production they fixed that error pretty well.
